RM50m in tourism, culture grants almost used up, says Tourism Malaysia
Tourism Malaysia Southern Region deputy director Awang Shawal Awang Sulaiman said the strong response to the Tourism Sector Support Grant (GSSP) and Cultural Sector Support Grant (GSSK) bodes well for the run-up to Visit Malaysia 2026.
"We did not expect this level of interest.
"It's barely halfway through the year but the RM20 million under GSSK and RM30 million under GSSP have been heavily subscribed since applications opened in January.
"We are confident the grants will continue next year. For now, we urge more organisers to apply before the end of the year," he said after launching the Visit Malaysia 2026 and Visit Johor 2026 (VJ2026) vehicle stickers for tourism buses at Taman Mawar here today.
Present were state Tourism, Arts and Culture director Norazlin Abu Mutalib and Tourism Johor director Mohammad Nazrul Abd Rahim.
The initiative, organised with the Johor Tour Bus Operators Association, involved affixing campaign stickers on 70 tourism vehicles to raise public and visitor awareness.
Awang Shawal said multiple agencies were committed to making VM2026 and VJ2026 successful through strategic partnerships and aggressive promotional drives.
"This collaborative approach will strengthen Malaysia's tourism ecosystem and unlock more economic opportunities, especially for locals and industry stakeholders.
"We are confident these efforts will reaffirm Malaysia's position as a premier global destination, with Johor as the gateway for Southeast Asian tourists," he said.

RM200 million Agrofood Financing Fund launched
Published on: Saturday, August 02, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 02, 2025 Text Size: Arthur witnessing the exchange of strategic cooperation agreement documents between Agrobank represented by Agrobank Group Chief Operating Officer, Zahid Ahmad Zawawi (right), and TM One represented by TM One's Vice President of Enterprise Business, Megawati Norhashim (second, left). Kota Kinabalu: The Agrofood Financing Fund (DPA) 2025, involving RM200 million, was launched Friday with Agrobank appointed as the implementing agency to further strengthen Malaysia's agrofood sector. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the fund is designed to enhance national food security and support the long-term sustainability of the country's agricultural and agrofood industries by providing financing facilities to agro-entrepreneurs. 'This programme aims to support entrepreneurs involved in agricultural and agrofood production, covering activities across the entire value chain — from upstream to downstream — including support services. I believe this will greatly benefit grassroots-level entrepreneurs. 'The fund provides financing for both fixed capital, such as asset acquisition and development costs, and working capital, to meet the operational needs of agro-industry players,' he told reporters after launching the fund in conjunction with the National Farmers, Stockbreeders and Fishermen's Day 2025, here, Friday. Also present were the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Secretary-General Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Agrobank Chairman Datuk Yunos Abd Ghani and Agrobank Group President/Chief Executive Officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin. Arthur said Agrobank will carefully assess each application to determine eligibility, based on pre-established conditions and project scopes. 'At this stage, we do not yet have the number of recipients, as Agrobank will first evaluate all submitted applications. Only then will we determine who qualifies and how many applicants are eligible for the fund,' he said. The DPA fund offers financing ranging from RM50,000 to RM5 million for eligible agro-entrepreneurs, with a profit rate of three per cent per annum. Meanwhile, Arthur said Agrobank and TM One have entered into a strategic collaboration to enhance the bank's digital infrastructure. The partnership aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of Agrobank's financial services, including ATMs, CDMs and online banking, through improved internet connectivity and digital solutions. 'This is a strategic move to accelerate Agrobank's digitalisation and provide a more seamless customer experience, especially for rural communities and farmers who rely on its services,' Arthur said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Legoland Malaysia eyes growth with JS-SEZ and tourism initiatives
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Legoland Malaysia is positioning itself to benefit from growing cross-border activity within the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) alongside increasing tourism initiatives ahead of the Visit Johor Year 2026 (VJY 2026) campaign. Legoland Malaysia Resort vice-president Cs Lim said the rising prominence of the JS-SEZ as an economic gateway between Johor and Singapore presents Legoland Malaysia with new growth opportunities to attract more tourists in the coming years. 'If this initiative grows and more companies set up or relocate here, it will naturally bring more people to the area. 'When that happens, we can expect more visitors coming to explore the surroundings, including Legoland Malaysia,' he told Bernama after officiating the new Miniland Singapore here on Friday. The event was jointly officiated by Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs vice-consul Lim En Wei and Johor Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) director Nurazlin Abu Talib. First introduced in 2012, Legoland Malaysia's Miniland Singapore has been reimagined in celebration of Singapore's 60th anniversary. The refreshed attraction features 16 impressive new models built from over 1.5 million Lego bricks. Highlights include iconic landmarks such as the Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer, the Merlion Fountain, as well as the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome. Meanwhile, Lim said Legoland Malaysia has continued to reinvest in facilities and attractions to enhance visitor experience and stay competitive in the evolving tourism landscape. He said Legoland's role in drawing domestic and international visitors is expected to further support economic activity in Johor. He added that the company has seen a steady increase in visitors over the years, buoyed by strong demand from its resident market, namely Malaysia and Singapore, which account for about 60 per cent of total visitors. The remaining 40 per cent comprises tourists from Indonesia, China, the Philippines, Australia and South Korea, among others. Lim said Legoland Malaysia remains upbeat about its outlook for the second half of the year and into next year, which will see both VJY 2026 and Visit Malaysia 2026 campaigns running concurrently. 'We're already making preparations, including fine-tuning our queuing and ordering systems, and we are also making sure that we have sufficient technical expertise at hand,' he added. - Bernama

Agrobank allocates RM200 million for Agrofood Financing Fund 2025
Arthur (back) witnessing Tengku Ahmad (left) handing over the DPA 2025 to KPKM Business Development and Investment Division Secretary Khalid Ibrahim. KOTA KINABALU (Aug 1): Agrobank has earmarked RM200 million for its Agrofood Financing Fund (DPA) 2025 to support national food security and promote the long-term sustainability of Malaysia's agricultural and agrofood sectors. The fund provides financing facilities to farming communities engaged in agricultural and agrofood production activities — ranging from upstream to downstream — including related support services. The goal is to encourage the adoption of agrotechnology and enhance the resilience of the agrofood industry. Agrobank Chief Executive Officer Dato Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin said the bank, as the implementing agency, offers financing between RM50,000 and RM5 million to eligible agricultural entrepreneurs at a profit rate of just three percent per annum. 'The financing covers fixed capital needs such as asset purchases and development costs, as well as working capital,' he said. 'It also supports the entire agrofood value chain, including food production like planting, farming and fishing, along with processing, distribution, marketing, and food preparation services.' Tengku Ahmad said the initiative reinforces Agrobank's role as a development financial institution (DFI) committed to providing inclusive, sustainable and accessible financing to farming communities and agro-industry players. 'This effort is aligned with the government's aim to boost the competitiveness of the nation's agri-food sector,' he added. The handing over of the DPA 2025 was witnessed by Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup during a ceremony held at the Sabah International Convention Centre here today.
