Man's fingers hacked off in machete, hammer and ammonia attack, court told
A Dublin man was chased into a house last week by a group of males before he was attacked with ammonia and had two fingers "amputated" with a machete, a court has heard.
A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named because he is a minor, is accused of assault causing harm to a man (29) and burglary in Clondalkin, Dublin, on May 9th.

The youth appeared at the Dublin Children's Court on Monday, where bail was granted with a range of strict conditions.
Garda Charles McPartland submitted that this case was on the more serious end of the scale for these offences and undoubtedly would proceed on indictment to the Circuit Court, which has wider sentencing powers.
He alleged that on May 9th, the injured party was pursued by multiple armed males through the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin.
He attempted to flee from them on foot until he ran into an independent third-party member of the public's home at Kilcronan View.

The court heard that while running into the house, the injured man told the owner to ring gardaí and an ambulance, before he was followed into the property by three or four males.
A 999 call from a witness alerted gardaí, who also received a second call believed to have been from the victim who seemed to be hyperventilating, the court heard.
Garda McPartland said the house owner reported hearing the man inside shouting "leave me alone, leave me alone".
Objecting to bail, the investigating officer cited the seriousness of the case and the strength of evidence, which was said to have included CCTV footage from the area where the teen and others were looking for the man.

Members of the group were alleged to have been carrying a machete or a claw hammer.
The contested bail hearing was told that when the man fled into the house, he went into a child's upstairs bedroom where he was "violently assaulted, sustaining life-altering injuries".
Judge Toale heard the injured party sustained two fingers, with his thumb and index finger on his left being cut off; his left middle finger was cut to the bone and "hanging on by skin only".
It was alleged he suffered a severe laceration to the back of his head, three more to his left leg and another three cuts to his left arm.

The garda revealed that the injured party also had an acidic liquid, suspected to be ammonia, thrown over him during the assault.
He was taken to hospital for immediate medical intervention, including surgery to attempt to re-attach his amputated fingers, which was unsuccessful. He was not required to give evidence at the bail hearing.
An examination of the scene showed blood in the child's room where the man had fled. The door handle on the inside had "snapped", and the outside handle was "bent out of shape", which Garda McPartland asserted was due to the force used to open the door.
An off-duty nurse who tried to assist the injured man afterwards also needed to go to hospital due to inhalation of airborne ammonia, the court was told.

Questioned by defence barrister, Doireann McDonagh, instructed by solicitor Simon Fleming, Garda McPartland said three people had weapons, but the machete caused the injuries described. It was not alleged that the teenager had the machete.
Judge Toale noted from the barrister's submission that the youth could face a lengthy period in custody and away from his family, awaiting trial.
The boy, who has yet to enter a plea, did not address the court, but his father told the judge he wanted his son to get back into education to complete the Leaving Certificate.

Counsel submitted that the teen would obey conditions and that there was no evidence he would be involved in witness intimidation.
The judge set bail and ordered him to have no contact with witnesses, to obey an 11pm-6am curfew at his home, stay out of the housing estate where the incident occurred, and attend a youth service or education.
The youth was warned that breaking the terms would result in custody, and he was ordered to appear again in June for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to be outlined.
Separately, a man was brought before the District Court on connected charges on Monday.

Seattle man charged with string of burglaries at the homes of NFL and MLB stars
A Seattle man was charged Friday with a string of burglaries at the homes of prominent current and former football and baseball players, marking the latest example of well-known athletes being targeted in home thefts. Earl Henderson Riley IV, 21, was charged with several counts of residential burglary in both occupied and unoccupied homes, along with first-degree robbery, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Prosecutors say Riley was the ringleader in a series of burglaries that started in February and involved stealing more than $6,000 in Louis Vuitton bags from Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo's home and over $194,000 in high end purses and jewelry from the home of the team's center fielder Julio Rodriguez. The thefts also involved taking several watches worth more than $100,000 from former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman's home and a burglary at the home of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell, who is from Washington, although nothing was stolen in that instance, according to court documents. Prosecutors say there was also an attempted burglary at baseball Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez's home. "All people deserve to feel safe in their homes, and our office will continue to hold people accountable for criminal behavior,' King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion said in a statement. There have been a slew of burglaries at the homes of well-known professional athletes across the U.S. in recent months. The players have been targeted because of the high-end products believed to be in their homes and sometimes the thefts happen when they are away with their teams for road games. The FBI has warned sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes. The NFL and NBA have also issued security alerts after burglaries at the homes of such star athletes as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. In a memo obtained by The Associated Press in November, the NFL said the homes of professional athletes across multiple sports have become 'increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups.' Riley is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail. It was not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer. The King County Department of Public Defense did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press and a spokesperson from the prosecuting attorney's office did not know whether Riley had a lawyer. The charges were the result of a monthslong investigation in which the county's prosecuting attorney's office worked with six police jurisdictions. Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Gary Ernsdorff said in a statement that their work is not over. 'We still want to go and identify everybody who was involved and see if there are additional people that we can have sufficient evidence to charge,' he said. Riley is expected to enter his initial plea in court during his arraignment June 16. He has another pending case in King County Superior Court in which he is charged with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree.

Cops make major breakthrough after ex-NFL star robbed at gunpoint on his birthday
An arrest has been made in a string of robberies and burglaries targeting pro athletes in the Seattle area, including a now-retired Seahawks legend who was robbed at gunpoint on his birthday. In March, former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was victim of an armed robbery at his home by multiple individuals while his family was inside. Now, Seattle police have charged an unnamed 21-year-old man with a felony in connection with that robbery. The suspect has been hit with three additional felony charges for the burglaries of the homes of three baseball stars. Charges were filed in connection with the burglaries of the homes of Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez, and the home of Seattle native and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell. It isn't clear why the man has not been named. He is being held in King County jail on a bail of $1million. The suspect has also been hit with felony charges in the burglaries of the homes of Seattle Mariners teammates Julio Rodriguez (L) and Luis Castillo (R) Sherman and his wife Ashley both released security footage in March of the armed men who robbed their home while she and their children were on the property. 'House being robbed at gun point with my family in it isn't what anyone wants for a birthday gift,' Sherman wrote on X alongside two grabs from his security footage. 'Scary situation that my Wife handled masterfully and kept my kids safe. If anyone has any info that can help find these people please reach out.' Ashley posted video of the break in on social media, showing three men breaking in through a ground-floor window. As she explained, the couple's two children were not harmed physically. 'Thank you to everyone who has checked in. It is truly appreciated,' Ashley wrote on social media. 'The kids and I are physically ok. Very shaken up and hope to find these people soon. 'Waking up to intruders outside your bedroom with a gun is something no one should have to experience,' she added. 'Like I said they tried the wrong people! We WILL find you!' Sherman posted two grabs showing men walking into the home wearing masks and heavy jackets. One of the men is seen brandishing a pistol. One man from Covington, Washington replied to Sherman's post at the time, explaining that there had been similar robberies in his neighborhood. Sherman responded by requesting a direct message from the man, while adding that 'they got 5 homes from what the police told us.' Beyond that, much still remains unclear, including the exact whereabouts of Sherman's wife Ashley and their children, Rayden and Avery, during the robbery. One of the robbers is seen holding a pistol in his right hand as he approaches the door Police are investigating the March 29 burglary, according to TMZ. Sherman, a former Super Bowl winner and one of the elite cornerbacks in recent NFL history, turned 37 on March 30. He currently works as an NFL analyst for Amazon Prime. Many of the world's biggest sports stars, including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, have fallen victims to thieves over the past year. The worrying trend has seen criminals target the mansions and possessions of players from across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS and college sports - sometimes during games. At the end of last year, the FBI sent a warning out to professional sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes. Cops have launched a multi-state investigation into the spate of robberies, many of which - according to the authorities - are the work of a sophisticated crime ring. To be clear, there is no public proof that the men who robbed Sherman and his family are tied to the other robberies in various parts of the country.

Businessman accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend and Miss Universe finalist Chloe Othen claims she told him another boyfriend beat her up
A businessman accused of assaulting his model ex-girlfriend says he has never been in a fight before and that she told him her previous boyfriend 'used to beat her up'. Ricky Lawrence, 33, is accused of pinning down, punching and repeatedly biting Chloe Othen, 34, at his £1.5million Knightsbridge home on October 15, 2022, after inviting her over. Ms Othen has told Aldersgate House Crown Court she thought she would die after Lawrence 'beat the cr*p' out of her. Jurors heard Lawrence later sent messages to Ms Othen saying: 'I will do everything in my power to f**k you up.' The pair had been in a relationship for around six months between December 2021 and May 2022 but remained 'on and off' after it ended. Ms Othen, a Miss Universe GB finalist in 2015 and internet influencer with more than 280,000 Instagram followers, had been at Lawrence's apartment in Hans Place when a conversation between the pair led to her feeling she needed to leave. Ms Othen's partner, Hatton Garden jeweller Bora Guccuk, 41, called her and Lawrence picked up the phone, threatening to stab them both, jurors have heard. Lawrence gave evidence on Friday, June 6, wearing a light grey suit and a blue tie. He said he owns a tailoring company and first met Ms Othen outside a restaurant in Kensington. 'I first met her outside a restaurant on Sloane Street. That would have been at the tail end of 2021,' he said. 'I was going in, she was leaving. We had a brief interchange and that was it.' Mr Wyatt asked Lawrence: 'Were you aware that she had a relationship with Bora Guccuk?' He replied: 'I knew that she had been on and off with someone'. Lawrence explained that on one occasion, he had met Guccuk at the Cirque le Soir nightclub in the West End where Ms Othen had taken him for a friends birthday party. He said that Mr Guccuk had confronted him, and that they had not seen each other after that. Lawrence said that at one point he had seen Ms Othen with a red mark on her face. 'She had a mark on the side of her face. It looked like a footprint. It was a round mark. It was a red round mark,' he said. He claimed that Ms Othen had told him that Mr Guccuk was violent towards her. 'She always described the relationship as violent. She said he used to beat her up, things of that nature,' he told the court. Lawrence said they broke up because he worked full time and she would often be out late. Mr Wyatt asked Lawrence: 'Have you ever bitten anyone?' to which he replied: 'Absolutely not. I'd never even had a fight'. He claimed that after they had broken up in May 2022, he had called the police when she refused to leave his house. 'When she realised I was on the phone to the police that's when she left', said Lawrence. Mr Wyatt said: 'She said that the two of you decided to try for a baby. Were you interested in that idea?' 'Absolutely not', replied Lawrence. Mr Wyatt asked him how he had felt when Ms Othen told him she was pregnant. He replied: 'Awful. The way she is, that is not what you want from a mother'. He admitted that he had confronted her at a restaurant in Cannes in the south of France during the Film Festival. 'That evening I did approach her. I said what are you doing here, why are you drinking if you're pregnant. She was clearly intoxicated at that point.' He insisted that was the only time they had spoken in Cannes. 'I didn't see her at any other time. We didn't cross paths at any time other than that,' he said.
