After arrest of nuns, political row in Chhattisgarh
The trio, taken into custody by Durg Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday for human trafficking and coerced religious conversion, were remanded to judicial custody by the JMFC court till August 8. They were booked under BNS Section 143 (trafficking).
Citing the incident as a serious concern for women's safety, Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday wrote on X, 'Three daughters of Narayanpur were promised nursing training and later jobs. It's an attempt to convert people through human trafficking by allurement. Investigation is going on in this matter. The case is sub-judice and the law will take its own course.'

Christians protest, demand justice for Kerala nuns, tribal man
Christians and others took out processions and staged protests in Mangaluru and Udupi on Monday demanding justice for Kerala nuns and a tribal youth arrested in Chhattisgarh on July 25, and subsequently released on bail on August 2. Holding the protest outside mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru under the auspices of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh, they stood in solidarity with Sister Preethi Mary and Sister Vandana Francis — both from Kerala — and Sukaman Mandavi of Narayanpur, arrested at Durg Railway Station on alleged charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion of three tribal women. 'To accuse us of coercion is to attack every person who selflessly serves.' Fr. Dominic Vas, present CRI president of Mangaluru chapter and Parish Priest of St. Mary's Church, Bikarnakatta, stated: 'We are patriots—not fanatics. This case is fabricated and must be quashed. Justice delayed is justice denied.' Roy Castelino, Public Relation Officer of Mangaluru Diocese said: 'The woman who lodged the complaint has vanished. Yet the sisters were quickly arrested. This is not justice. We demand that Jyothi Sharma face charges for filing a false, malicious complaint.' At Udupi Catholic Sabha of Udupi Pradesh held the protest at Ajjarakadu in Udupi. Speaking on the occasion Gananatha Ekkar, a former college teacher, said that the country had over 30,000 Christian education institutes and over 50 lakh persons, from different religions, benefitted from them. The sabha demanded withdrawal of the case filed against the three persons.

3 killed, 4 injured in separate mishaps over the weekend in Mumbai and Thane
Mumbai/Thane: Three persons were killed and four others suffered injuries in three separate incidents in Vikhroli and Thane over the weekend. In the first incident that took place in Vikhroli (E) on Saturday evening, an autorickshaw driver fatally knocked down a pedestrian and injured three others within a span of 30 minutes. Vikhroli police constable Jyoti Gite witnessed the first mishap at 6pm near Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk. She said the auto driver, Jalindar Dongre (66), rammed into Manoj Goud (28), who was walking along the road. As no ambulance was available, Gite and traffic warden More took Goud, who suffered severe head injuries, to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Hospital in the same auto. Goud was declared dead before admission. Shockingly, en route to the hospital, Dongre hit three pedestrians — Radhamohan Panigrahi, Saibani Panigrahi, and Chandradevi Verma — in Tagore Nagar. They all sustained minor injuries. In the second case, which took place in Vikhroli on Sunday, an autorickshaw took a sudden turn, causing a biker, Nasir Khan (24), behind it to lose balance and fall on the road. Mumbra police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver under relevant sections of BNS, including rash driving and causing death by negligence.

Caught on camera, senior Chamoli medical officer ‘hits bike with his Scorpio, drags it 100 metres', 2 seriously injured
The additional chief medical officer in charge of Chamoli district hospital has been suspended after he was accused of hitting a motorcycle carrying two people with his SUV. An inquiry into the incident showed that Dr Mohammad Shah Hasan was allegedly inebriated, officials said, adding that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the Health Department to take action against him. Videos of the incident, which took place at 1.45 pm on Saturday, showed a black Scorpio dragging a motorcycle forward after hitting it. The two people on the motorcycle, identified as Sanyam Chaudhary and Gaurav Kumar, sustained serious injuries, according to an FIR registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Gaurav's father. The complaint said, 'Dr Shah Hasan, driving recklessly, negligently, and under the influence of alcohol, hit my son's Pulsar bike head-on in front of Monal Hotel with his Scorpio, and dragged the bike for around 100 metres with his vehicle. Both my son and Gaurav sustained serious injuries. Gaurav, being in a serious condition, was referred from Rudraprayag Government Hospital to Srinagar Base Hospital (in Pauri Garhwal).' The FIR is under BNS sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way). Officials said that after the incident, an inquiry was ordered and the report was received by the Director General of Medical Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. The report said that Hasan was allegedly inebriated. His conduct was found to be violative of the Uttarakhand Government Servants Conduct Rules, 2002, officials said. The office of Chief Minister Dhami said that he ordered the Uttarakhand Health Department to take disciplinary action against Hasan by suspending him with immediate effect. The order by Health Secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar said, 'Considering the serious condition of the injured individuals, and taking cognizance under Rule 4(2) of the Uttarakhand Government Servants Conduct Rules, 2002, and under Rule 4 of the Uttarakhand Appeal and Discipline Rules, 2003, the Hon'ble Governor hereby graciously approves the suspension of Dr Mohd. Shah Hasan, Additional Chief Medical Officer, Chamoli (in public interest) for the incident at Tilani, District Rudraprayag. The Hon'ble Governor further grants approval for initiating an inquiry into the matter against Dr. Mohd. Shah Hasan…under the relevant provisions of Rule 4 of the Uttarakhand Appeal and Discipline Rules, 2003.' Rajesh Kumar said there was a clear violation of conduct in this case, which the government has taken very seriously. 'Indiscipline, irresponsible behaviour, or neglect of service duties at any level will not be tolerated in the department. The incident is not only tragic for the affected families, but also damages the credibility of the entire health system,' he said. During the suspension period, Hasan will be posted at the Rudraprayag district headquarters, from where he will fully cooperate in the departmental investigation.
