Kerry Condon is off to the races

Washington Post5 hours ago

NEW YORK
Kerry Condon was in the thick of Oscars season two years ago, bantering and glad-handing from London to Los Angeles, when she took a breather to campaign for a different kind of prize.
Nominated for her first Academy Award for the pitch-black tragicomedy 'The Banshees of Inisherin,' Condon had crossed paths with 'Top Gun: Maverick' director Joseph Kosinski at many an industry event and gleaned that his follow-up feature would be set in the world of Formula 1. When the Irish actress realized he still needed a female lead, the high-octane project piqued her curiosity. Realizing this character would go toe-to-toe with Brad Pitt, she became all the more intrigued.

Denis Villeneuve to direct the next 'James Bond' movie

Oscar-nominated Denis Villeneuve will direct the next "James Bond" film, Amazon's MGM Studios said on Wednesday, taking charge of one of Hollywood's most enigmatic spies and longest-running movie series. Villeneuve, the Canadian film director and writer, has earned critical acclaim for films such as "Sicario," "Dune," "Dune: Part Two," "Blade Runner 2049," and "Arrival". He was nominated for Best Director at the 2017 Oscars for sci-fi film "Arrival", which starred Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Dune", based on author Frank Herbert's highly acclaimed 1965 novel of the same name, at the 2022 Oscars. "I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility," Villeneuve said in a statement. The upcoming Bond movie will be the first under Amazon's MGM Studios, which took creative control of the film franchise under a new joint venture with longtime rights holders Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli earlier this year. The franchise is yet to name a new lead actor following Daniel Craig's departure after "No Time to Die" in 2021, which earned nearly $800 million in global box office collections. Inspired by Ian Fleming's novels, the Bond franchise has spanned over 60 years, grossing more than $7 billion at the global box office, making it one of the most successful ever. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the next Bond movie.

Nick and Vanessa Lachey List Their Modern SoCal Farmhouse for $7.5 Million

It's been barely a year since Nick and Vanessa Lachey put their snazzy Honolulu residence up for sale and doled out $6.8 million for all-new modern farmhouse-style digs in Los Angeles. Now the married reality TV show hosts are already looking to offload their stylish spread tucked away in a prime pocket of Encino with a $700,000 jump in price, asking just under $7.5 million. Craig Knizek and Mauricio Umansky of the Agency share the listing. Completed in 2023, the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom abode rests amid a secluded cul-de-sac parcel spanning nearly half an acre in the gated Amstoy Estates neighborhood. Roughly 8,200 square feet of three-level living space is accented with white oak floors, high ceilings, and designer lighting throughout, and the property is securely protected by a perimeter-wide surveillance system. The lower level is decked out with a vaulted safe room, a movie theater, a gym, a recreation room, and a seated bar with a glass-encased wine wall. And a floating wood-railed staircase winds its way up to the top floor, where the primary suite flaunts a fireplace, dual designer showroom closets, and a luxe marble bath equipped with two vanities, a makeup counter, a soaking tub, and a steam shower. The co-hosts of Netflix's reality dating shows Love Is Blind and The Ultimatum purchased their Hawaii home near Oahu's Kahala Beach in 2022 for $8.8 million, soon after Vanessa was cast in the CBS show NCIS: Hawaiʻi in 2021, and subsequently sold it last summer for nearly $9.5 million soon after the police procedural was canceled after three seasons. Before moving to Hawaii, they also transferred an L.A.-area home to tennis pro Naomi Osaka for $6.3 million. ‘F1' Arrives With A Stunning Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score

F1 It was easy to believe that director Joseph Kosinski had the potential to produce another beloved blockbuster after his enormous hit, Top Gun: Maverick. And it seems he's done just that with F1. While its critic score is a bit below Top Gun, its audience score? Almost identical and almost perfect. Top Gun: Maverick had a 96% critic score and a wild 99% audience score, one of the best for a blockbuster in a decade, at least. F1 has an 86% critic score and, at least for now, a near-perfect 98% audience score, just shy of Top Gun. We'll see if it can maintain that as more reviews come in, but for now, it's extremely impressive. Ironically, however, it does have current competition with the also 98%-scoring How to Train Your Dragon live-action adaptation. Here's the synopsis for F1 if you haven't seen the trailers that have been blasting the airways for two months at least: 'Dubbed "the greatest that never was," Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1's most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he's a nomadic racer-for-hire when he's approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He'll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team's hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny's past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition--and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.' F1 One thing people have noted about F1 is that it has cast the 61-year-old Brad Pitt as a 50-something F1 driver in a sport where the current oldest competitor is the 43-year-old Fernando Alonso. Though I suppose being way, way over the hill is sort of the concept of the F1 movie in the first place. It's a hugely high-profile role for Damson Idris, who first broke out in FX's Snowfall. Now he's co-starring in a blockbuster with Brad Pitt, and there are rumors he may end up being the new Black Panther in the MCU going forward, and he always slides around the question when asked. So, F1 seems worth everyone's time, and given the context of the film, seeing it in actual theaters feels like a must. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.
