Crews called as dumped lithium-ion batteries 'exploded' in fire
Firefighters used a new misting tool as they were called to a blaze caused by discarded batteries in Nottinghamshire.Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service launched the Polaris - a pump with a large thin tube - in August and put it to the test for the first time on Wednesday. Crews from Tuxford were called to Windmill Lane in Worksop just after 10:15 GMT where two tonnes of lithium-ion batteries had been discarded and were exploding, the fire service said. The fire service's group manager for north Nottinghamshire, Tom Staples, said more of the tools and vehicles would be brought in soon "to further improve our ability to fight rural fires and access other hard to reach incident types".
The tool uses a 'misting lance', which is a large thin tube, to push into the fire, which enables firefighters to tackle the fire from the middle, rather than just on top.It was introduced following a rise in outdoor and rural fires the service was attending. Mr Staples said: "I'm delighted that the Polaris and L200 vehicles at Tuxford fire station are getting used, especially for the type of incidents we have previously struggled to access with our traditional fire engines."

BBC Antiques Roadshow guest speechless as £1 vase bought at boot sale makes staggering value
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Antiques Roadshow's Eric Knowles was left gobsmacked when a glass vase, purchased for a mere £1 at a car boot sale, was valued at an astonishing amount. A woman from Ayrshire, who wished to remain anonymous, brought the vase to the BBC show for evaluation, not anticipating the staggering valuation she would receive. The vase was identified as a 1929 piece by famed French designer René Lalique, after being scrutinised by experts at Dumfries House near Cumnock, and was valued at a minimum of £25,000. The five-inch-tall glass vase was crafted using an ancient technique known as cire perdue. This complex method involves creating a wax model that is encased in plaster, then melted away and replaced with molten glass, with the plaster mould being broken away once the glass cools to reveal the final creation. The market value for Lalique pieces has seen a significant increase in recent years. Antiques Roadshow expert Eric Knowles shared his excitement with the Irvine Herald: "It's wonderful to find treasures like this beautiful vase during the programme's filming," reports the Express. (Image: BBC) He continued: "It certainly gives us all a buzz and we thoroughly enjoy meeting people everywhere we go. I've been waiting over 25 years for such a piece to come in, and this was the stuff of dreams. They'd dumped it in the attic after the plant in it died and were about to throw it away. We had a lot of clouds in Dumfries, but this was the cloud with a silver lining. It's worth at least £25,000." The vase ultimately fetched a whopping £32,450 at auction, exceeding its previous valuation by £7,000. This follows a rerun of the beloved BBC programme, which aired on Sunday, June 8. Viewers were transported to Brodie Castle in Scotland, where a parade of treasures awaited appraisal. Among them was a man who wowed Richard with a 1960s Rolex GMT-Master, inherited from his uncle. Richard, peering intently at the watch, informed the owner: "All Rolex collectors refer to these things by their reference number," and "You know as well as I do, because it says so on the dial, that it's a GMT-Master." (Image: BBC) Richard explained: "It's the reference 1675, which is the classic GMT-Master. When you said 60s, I think we could fairly safely say 1960 to 1961, so that all fits in." Upon closer inspection, Richard was thrilled to find the watch unaltered, noting that many watches are often modified during servicing, much to collectors' dismay. He said: "They would've changed the bezel and they would've changed the dial with an upgrade," before adding:"You would've had it back thinking, 'Oh, it looks like new'. Collectors hate that, it's absolutely original, spot-on." The expert told the owner: "It's a Rolex product, of course, but it says 'Made in the USA'. So perhaps he specified that he did not want the oyster bracelet; he wanted a jubilee bracelet, and they put this one on for him. "Which sort of detracts from it a little bit, probably detracts from it by a couple of thousand pounds." However, Richard had some good news as well, revealing that the watch is worth "£12,000 to £15,000." You can catch Antiques Roadshow every Sunday at 8pm on BBC1.

It has previously been the Italian Grand Prix and San Marino Grand Prix. This will be the fourth Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Anti-clockwise Imola hosted the 1980 Italian Grand Prix and was home to the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 until 2006, when seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher won for a record seventh time. Sunday will be the 32nd F1 world championship race held at the circuit. Brazilian triple world champion Ayrton Senna and Austrian Roland Ratzenberger died in accidents over the 1994 race weekend. Hamilton (2020), Verstappen (2021, 2022, 2024) and Fernando Alonso (2005) are the only current drivers to have won at Imola. Verstappen has won three of the four races held at Imola since 2020. McLaren last won at Imola with David Coulthard in 1998. In the 31 races to date at Imola, 11 have been won from pole. Another nine winners have come from second on the starting grid. No winner has started lower than fifth. Senna still holds the record for most poles at Imola, eight in total. The 2023 edition of the race was cancelled due to flooding that devastated the region. McLaren's Oscar Piastri leads the drivers' championship by 16 points from teammate Lando Norris. Verstappen is 32 points behind Piastri. Leaders and champions McLaren are 105 points clear of Mercedes and 141 ahead of Red Bull. Piastri has won four of the last five races and is chasing his fourth victory in a row after Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Miami. Norris and Verstappen have each won once this year. Seven-times world champion Hamilton has a record 105 career victories from 362 starts. Verstappen has won 64 grands prix and is third on the all-time list after Michael Schumacher on 91. Norris, Piastri (twice) and Verstappen (three) have been on pole so far this season. Norris has started on the front row in three of six races. Verstappen is chasing his third pole in a row and fourth in five races. Hamilton has a record 104 career poles, his most recent in Hungary in 2023. Three of the six drivers starting a season for the first time have scored so far -- Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes, Oliver Bearman for Haas and Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar. Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber) and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) have yet to open their accounts. They are joined this weekend by Franco Colapinto at Renault-owned Alpine, the Argentine replacing Australian Jack Doohan for at least the next five races. Imola is Antonelli's home debut. It is also Hamilton's first race in Italy for Ferrari since he joined in January.
