Jorge Polanco blasts two homers as Seattle Mariners rout Miami Marlins
Jorge Polanco hit two home runs and Luis Castillo allowed one hit over six scoreless innings as the Seattle Mariners clobbered the visiting Miami Marlins 14-0 Saturday night in an interleague game.
Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Garver also homered and rookie Ben Williamson drove in four runs for the Mariners, who won for the third time in their past four games and improved to 12-5 over their past 17 to move into a first-place tie with Texas atop the American League West.
The only hit Castillo (3-2) allowed was a line-drive single to right field by Dane Myers leading off the third. Castillo, a right-hander, walked two and struck out five.
Rodriguez led off the bottom of the first by hitting Connor Gillispie's initial pitch of the game high off the left-field foul pole, a blast estimated at 417 feet.
Two pitches later, Polanco homered to right.
The Mariners didn't stop there, as Cal Raleigh walked and, an out later, Luke Raley reached on a bunt single down the third-base line. A walk to Rowdy Tellez loaded the bases and Williamson lined a two-run double down the left-field line. Miles Mastrobuoni hit a two-run double to right to make it 6-0.
Seattle added a run in the second as Polanco drew a leadoff walk and Raleigh hit a ground-rule double down the right-field line. Raley's sacrifice fly extended the lead to 7-0.
Gillispie (0-3) lasted just two innings, giving up seven runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
The Mariners scored three more times in the fourth to reach double-digits. With one out, Polanco homered to right off reliever George Soriano. Walks to Raleigh and Randy Arozarena and a single by Raley loaded the bases for Rowdy Tellez, who was hit by a pitch from Anthony Veneziano to bring home a run. Williamson grounded into a forceout to make it 10-0.
Seattle scored in the sixth as Raley, Donovan Solano and Williamson singled with two outs.
The Marlins sent position player Javier Sanoja to the mound in the seventh. He allowed a leadoff single to J.P. Crawford and, two outs later, Garver went deep to left.
Seattle tallied once more off Sanoja in the eighth. Raley drew a leadoff walk, took second on a groundout and scored on Mastrobuoni's single to center.
The Mariners' Troy Taylor, Casey Legumina and Tayler Saucedo each allowed one hit in a scoreless inning of relief to complete the four-hit shutout.

Diamondbacks Corbin Burnes to have season-ending Tommy John elbow surgery
Diamondbacks Corbin Burnes to have season-ending Tommy John elbow surgery Show Caption Hide Caption Seattle Mariners' newest player shares promotion with family Cole Young announces his move to the big leagues playing for Seattle Mariners during an emotional phone call with his family. Corbin Burnes, the former Cy Young Award winner who received a $210 million contract to push the Arizona Diamondbacks into the National League's elite, will have Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of this season and most of 2026. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo made the announcement on Friday in Cincinnati, where his team was set to open a three-game series against the Reds. Burnes, 30, was 70 pitches into his 11th start of the season when he hopped in pain and mouthed to his dugout that the discomfort was coming from his right elbow. He underwent an MRI on Monday and traveled to Los Angeles later in the week to visit with orthopedic surgeon Neal ElAttrache. He'd posted a 2.66 ERA in 64 ⅓ innings, propping up an Arizona rotation and ballclub that otherwise has been a significant disappointment this season. Burnes has been one of the game's most reliable starters since 2021, making between 28 and 33 starts and pitching 167 to 202 innings the past four seasons. Now, Arizona must venture on without Burnes, saddled with a 31-31 record, 6 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and in fourth place in the NL West. Burnes signed a six-year, $210 million contract with Arizona after one season in Baltimore, and won the 2021 NL Cy Young Award with the Milwaukee Brewers, when he led the major leagues with a 2.43 ERA.

Slumping Seattle Mariners Seek Answers To Recent Woes
Slumping Seattle Mariners Seek Answers To Recent Woes originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's no doubt that the Seattle Mariners wanted to get off to a hot start this season. They managed to put together a solid stretch, putting them at the top spot in the American League West. Advertisement Entering June, though, it's a whole different story. Seattle has lost 10 of its last 15 games, seeing players who got off to a hot start slow down. That's not the case for Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, though. The "Big Dumper" continues to club home runs left and right. Raleigh socked his 24th homer this season in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at T-Mobile Park. That number leads all MLB sluggers. What gives with the recent slump? Even Raleigh is looking for answers himself. 'We've got to turn the page,' Raleigh said on Thursday, reported. 'We've got to create our own luck and can't wait around. I think that's the big thing I want to see in the next couple games is kind of creating our own luck, creating our own kind of chaos on the bases and and things like that — and not just waiting for that home run or that one hit. So I think that's kind of how we've got to push the envelope, in my mind.' Cal Raleigh has been a one-man wrecking crew for the Mariners Over the past 15 games, Seattle is 5-10. But the story lies in the numbers and Raleigh, for his part, has been carrying the Mariners on his broad shoulders. Take a look at these statistics. Since May 10, Raleigh has been hitting at a .345 clip with nine homers and an OPS of 1.286. Advertisement How about his teammates? Well, that's a totally different story. They have combined for a .214 average with nine combined homers and a .581 OPS. That's not a winning combination at all. Seattle needs more contributions from the rest of the 40-man roster if they're going to reclaim their AL West leadership. The Houston Astros hold a 1.5-game lead over Seattle entering Friday. The Astros finished off a series win against the Pittsburgh Pirates late Thursday night, winning 8-2. It's a familiar spot for Seattle, looking up at the Astros in the No. 1 spot in the division. 'We're getting guys on, but you've got to take advantage of it, right?' Raleigh said. 'I mean, it's kind of the name of the game. We've just got to find a way to get those runs across like we were early in the year. Advertisement "Sometimes, it's not always going to be from the swing," he said. "You've got to get a bunt. You've got to steal bases, kind of like what we're doing earlier — creating some traffic that way. So it's not taking two, three singles to get the job done." Seattle has plenty of season left to right its wrongs. The Mariners, though, probably need to start picking up the pace as the long, hot summer hits MLB teams.
