What Wall Street Expects
Wall Street is expecting Novartis to announce quarterly earnings of $2.38 per share, up 20.8% on the same period last year. Revenues are projected to reach $14.04 billion, increasing 9% from the same quarter last year.
Will NVS be able to beat these estimates? As one can see below, it has a very strong track record in doing just that.
Key Issues Ahead of Earnings
Novartis has had a strong start to 2025, with its stock soaring nearly 27%. It has been helped by some landmark wins such as recently winning approval for a new baby malaria treatment.
Its cardiovascular drug Entresto has also performed well, helped by increased demand in China and Japan. Its breast cancer drug Kisqali and multiple sclerosis treatment Kesimpta will also likely have boosted sales in the quarter.
There are challenges, however, emanating from the Trump administration over drug prices and advertising. It will be interesting to hear from Novartis what kind of short and long-term impact these might have both for it and its peers.
Is NVS a Good Stock to Buy Now?
On TipRanks, NVS has a Moderate Sell consensus based on 2 Hold and 1 Sell ratings. Its highest price target is $139.13.

Walmart (WMT) Is About to Report Q2 Earnings. Here's What to Expect

Retail giant Walmart (WMT) is scheduled to announce its results for the second quarter of Fiscal 2025 on Thursday, August 21. WMT stock has risen 12.95% year-to-date boosted by its reputation as being a value chain during a time of economic uncertainty and pressure on consumer spending. It has also looked to boost its e-commerce offerings, use of AI and rural deliveries. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. It has had its challenges however, particularly tariff woes which have forced it to hike product prices and make changes its to international supply chain. Wall Street is expecting WMT to report earnings of $0.72 per share, which would represent year-over-year growth of 7.46%. Revenues for the period are expected to come in at $175.51 billion, up 3.65% from the prior-year quarter. Ahead of the Q2 earnings, Wall Street is, however, cautious on Walmart stock – see below. Analysts' Views Ahead of Walmart Earnings Robert Drbul of Guggenheim recently raised the firm's price target on Walmart to $115 from $112 and kept a Buy rating on the shares. The firm expects the company to report strong Q2 results and believes the stock's valuation has room for multiple expansion. Walmart is gaining share in consumables, its compares are easing, and tariffs should benefit gross margin, he said. Greg Melich of Evercore ISI raised the firm's price target on Walmart to $110 from $108 and kept an Outperform rating on the shares. The timing of Trump 2.0 policies create uncertainties into the Q2 earnings season for large cap retailers, he warned, but Q2 was 'generally' solid, with early tariff pass through and limited price elasticity allowing nominal demand to hold up. Oppenheimer analyst Rupesh Parikh raised the firm's price target on Walmart to $115 from $110 and kept an Outperform rating on the shares ahead of the quarterly results. Following a more difficult backdrop to start the year due to unexpected tariff and expense headwinds, the firm believes a 'positive guidance revision cycle could again materialize soon.' Indeed, he believes that Walmart could lift FY25 financial targets in its Q2 report. Erste Group analyst Stephan Lingnau upgraded Walmart to Buy from Hold. He expects sales to grow around 3%-4% this year and operating income should grow at a 'slightly faster' rate of 3.5%-5.5% year-over-year. Bullish AI Analyst Interestingly, TipRanks AI stock analyst has assigned an Outperform rating to Walmart stock with a price target of $115, indicating about 13.54% upside potential. TipRanks' AI analysis noted the company's strong financial performance and positive earnings call sentiment are the primary drivers of its score. Technical indicators support a positive trend, though valuation concerns due to a high P/E ratio slightly offset these strengths. The company is well-positioned for growth, but cost pressures and general merchandise softness require monitoring. Trump Family-Backed Thumzup to Acquire Dogecoin Mining Company

Trump family-backed, cryptocurrency treasury firm Thumzup Media is planning to acquire Dogecoin mining firm Dogehash, the companies announced Tuesday. Under the all-stock deal, Dogehash shareholders will swap their holdings for a combined 30.7 million shares of Thumzup stock, the companies said in a joint statement. The miner will be renamed Degohash Technologies Holdings and trade on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the ticker "XDOG.' The acquisition target's mining technology will be integrated with Thumzup, with the goal of offering competitive mining opportunities to miners within the Dogecoin ecosystem. 'Beyond expanding our digital asset treasury, we see opportunities to align Dogecoin's fast, low-cost settlement layer to go beyond a mining operation and build a vertically integrated ecosystem that combines scalable infrastructure, renewable-powered production, and utility-driven applications of Dogecoin,' Thumzup CEO Robert Steele told Decrypt on Tuesday. The agreement comes a few weeks after Thumzup raised $50 million to expand its crypto-led corporate strategy by buying mining rigs and accumulating digital assets for its corporate treasury, among other moves. It is one of several publicly traded firms that has gone all-in on digital assets in recent years, emulating the corporate playbook of Michael Saylor's software firm Strategy. A number of public companies, including American Bitcoin and Kindly MD have snapped up hundreds of millions , of dollars in Bitcoin over the past year. Meanwhile, Bitmine Immersion and Sharplink Gaming, have poured billions into Ethereum over the past few weeks, pumping the token to within striking distance of its record price. Other altcoins are also being snapped up in the digital assets treasury boom, including XRP and Solana. Bitcoin Could Keep Surging to New Highs Into 2026, Says Bernstein Founded in 2020, Thumzup is an online marketing firm that pays social media users to promote brands to their followers. It pivoted to a crypto-focused corporate strategy earlier this year, amassing Bitcoin for its treasury and enabling BTC payments for its users. Thumzup shares were trading at $5.03 as of the closing bell on Tuesday, down 41% over the past 24 hours but up 52% year-to-date, according to Yahoo Finance data. Upon the deal's closing, Thumzup and Dogehash will make a bid to become a leading Dogecoin mining platform. Their goal is to provide more robust yields for the memecoin's miners, according to the companies' statement. Sign in to access your portfolio

Australia's Biggest Gold Miner Sees Prices Supported Next Year

(Bloomberg) -- Gold is expected to hold onto gains into 2026 following a rally to a record earlier this year, Australia's biggest listed miner of the metal said after reporting that full-year profit more than doubled. 'I'm encouraged with where the price levels are, I still see it maintaining,' Northern Star Resources Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Stuart Tonkin told Bloomberg TV. 'This is a pretty strong, healthy environment right now.' Why New York City Has a Fleet of New EVs From a Dead Carmaker Trump Takes Second Swing at Cutting Housing Assistance for Immigrants Chicago Schools Seeks $1 Billion of Short-Term Debt as Cash Gone A London Apartment Tower With Echoes of Victorian Rail and Ancient Rome Bullion has been one of the strongest performing commodities this year, peaking above $3,500 an ounce in April as concerns over US President Donald Trump's aggressive stance on trade and geopolitics fueled demand. Although gains have been muted in recent months, without a fresh catalyst to spur more advances, several Wall Street banks expect fresh records in 2026. Net income in the twelve months to June more than doubled to A$1.34 billion ($862 million), while underlying free cashflow hit a record A$536 million, the Perth-based miner said in a statement on Thursday. Its shares rose as much as 3.7% in Sydney to a seven-week high. Still, compared with Australian and North American peers, Northern Star has struggled to take full advantage of the rally amid operational setbacks and rising expenses. In July, the miner cut its 2026 sales guidance due to planned shutdowns at its three key assets, including the flagship 'Super Pit' mine in Western Australia. The company has also flagged higher-than-expected costs from sector-wide inflation and increased capital requirements. Bullion's record-setting rally has also renewed deal-making across the industry following a period of subdued merger-and-acquisition activity. Earlier this year, Northern Star completed the A$5 billion acquisition of De Grey Mining Ltd., whose undeveloped Hemi project in Western Australia is set to become one of the country's top five gold mines. Output is expected to average 530,000 ounces a year over the first decade, according to a company statement last year. 'The lower end of the ASX potentially have some synergies to liberate through combinations in the business,' Tonkin said, referring to smaller companies on the Australian Stock Exchange. 'You'll still see more of that.' While Northern Star remains focused on organic growth, Australian assets more broadly look attractive due to foreign-exchange arbitrage opportunities, he said. 'There's potentially the flow of capital back into Australia, when historically it was moving from Australia offshore.' --With assistance from Justina T. Lee, Paul Allen and Avril Hong.
