In China, he said the country is way ahead in tech usage like smartphone payments, compared to the U.S. still using cash. Huang was born in Taiwan, but is a U.S. citizen. At a big business fair, he wore traditional Chinese clothes and gave a speech partly in Chinese, according to the WSJ report.
In his speech, he said China's supply chain is a miracle and praised its researchers, developers, and entrepreneurs. He criticized the high U.S. tariffs that stop most Chinese EVs from coming to America, as per the report.

Why has China barred Wells Fargo banker from leaving the country?
China on Monday said that a senior executive at Wells Fargo, one of the United States (US)' largest banks, has been restricted from leaving the country because of her involvement in a criminal case. The confirmation comes after reports of the same surfaced last week, according to a report in the South China Morning Post (SCMP). 'Mao Chenyue is involved in a criminal case currently being handled by Chinese law enforcement authorities and is subject to the exit restrictions in accordance with the law,' Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said, as quoted by the SCMP. The spokesperson did not specify what Mao is alleged to have done, nor which law enforcement agency is handling the case. 'She cannot leave the country for the time being,' Guo added, noting that Mao is required to 'cooperate with the investigation pursuant to Chinese laws', the report added. Guo added that 'no matter whether they are Chinese or foreigners, they should abide by Chinese laws in China'. He also said that her 'lawful rights and interests' would be protected while the investigation is ongoing and framed the situation as 'an individual judicial case'. According to her LinkedIn profile, Mao has been a managing director at Wells Fargo since 2012. Wells Fargo suspends business travel to China Soon after reports of Mao's exit ban surfaced last week, the US-based bank suspended all business travel to the country. "We are closely tracking this situation and working through the appropriate channels so our employee can return to the United States as soon as possible," Wells Fargo told Reuters then. These travel restrictions can prevent individuals—both Chinese citizens and foreigners—from leaving the country if they are involved in legal disputes, ongoing investigations, or sometimes for reasons that are not made public. The US State Department has warned its citizens on multiple occasions to reconsider travel to China. "Exercise increased caution when traveling to Mainland China due to arbitrary enforcement of local laws, including in relation to exit bans," it said in an advisory issued in November 2024. According to the SCMP report, another US citizen—an employee of the US Commerce Department's Patent and Trademark Office—had also been blocked from leaving China a few days ago. The individual has reportedly been stuck in the country for several months, allegedly over national security concerns, the report added.

India-US trade deal stalemate continues, talks to resume in August: Sources
Negotiations between India and the US on a crucial trade pact remain at an impasse, with talks now expected to resume when a delegation from Washington visits Delhi in the second week of August, sources two nations are aiming to finalise a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement (BTA) by September or October. The latest round of talks, the fifth, saw the Indian negotiators in Washington attempting to break a deadlock over duties on auto components, steel, and agricultural products. These issues have emerged as key sticking points in the drawn-out the discussions remained inconclusive, and the Indian delegation returned home just days before US President Donald Trump's August 1 tariff pause deadline rolls around. Talks hit a snag after India drew a red line and refused to yield to US demands on agricultural access, particularly in the dairy sector, which employs more than 80 million Indians, many of them smallholder previously said that while the two countries were close to sealing a deal by the end of June, discussions fell apart before the July 9 deadline set by Trump. India's stand on protecting its dairy sector was a key reason the talks failed to cross the finish meanwhile, has repeatedly claimed that the BTA with India is almost done deal. Yet, he has also warned of sweeping new tariffs on imports from multiple countries, including members of the Brics bloc, of which India is a week, the US President reiterated that Brics nations could face 10 per cent tariffs if they dare to go the de-dollarization way. India, the second-largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels, could be majorly impacted if such measures are at least 14 countries have received formal notices from Washington about impending tariffs ranging from 25 per cent to 40 per cent, India has not received such a letter. This has given hope that negotiations are still alive, albeit under growing outcome of the August round of talks may determine whether India can avoid punishing tariffs as high as 500 per cent and secure a long-pending trade pact with Washington, one that has remained elusive despite repeated assurances from both governments.- Ends
