Trouble For Tejashwi? Mukesh Sahani's VIP Announces To Contest 60 Seats In Bihar Assembly Polls
PATNA: In a significant political announcement, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani declared on Monday that his party will contest 60 seats in the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. This announcement, made via a social media post, has stirred fresh speculation and strategic recalculations in the state's dynamic political landscape. 'VIP will contest on 60 seats in 2025, candidates of our allies will contest on all the remaining seats,' the post stated. It is indicating VIP is growing in ambition and potential plans for a broader alliance. Often referred to as the 'Son of Mallah', Mukesh Sahani has emerged as a prominent voice for the Nishad community in Bihar. His latest statement signals a shift from being a kingmaker in state politics to aspiring for a commanding position. In the 2020 Assembly elections, VIP contested under the NDA banner and managed to secure four seats, but the relationship soured soon after, with Sahani eventually drifting away from the BJP-led alliance. His party's base, particularly among the Mallah (fisherfolk) community, has expanded in recent years, and this new electoral claim is being seen as a move to consolidate that base into a larger political force. Sahani's declaration comes at a time when the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) is in the process of finalising its pre-poll arithmetic. The VIP's intention to contest 60 seats introduces a new challenge in alliance negotiations. If VIP aligns with the Grand Alliance, this demand could compel partners like RJD, Congress, and Left parties to reconsider their seat-sharing formulas, possibly triggering intra-alliance tension. 'Fielding candidates on 60 seats is a bold move and shows Sahani's intent to be more than a support player,' a senior political analyst commented. Sahani has consistently championed reservation for the Nishad community, a key demand that resonates with his core support base. His political rhetoric and outreach efforts have largely focused on issues affecting Extremely Backward Castes (EBCs), and his increasing appearances alongside Tejashwi Yadav in recent months hint at his strong ties with RJD.

‘Why are terror attacks recurring under BJP rule', asks Akhilesh
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday questioned the recurring terror attacks during the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) rule, pointing to the recent Pahalgam attack where 26 civilians were killed. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav (Sourced) Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Yadav asked, 'Why are terrorist incidents happening repeatedly in the BJP government? Before the Pahalgam incident, there was an attack in Pulwama. Where did the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack disappear to?' He lauded the armed forces for Operation Sindoor and remarked, 'We congratulate the army for its bravery, courage and valour. If the army had another chance, it could have taken POK.' The SP chief further alleged that the central government's foreign policy has failed. He said that while India has built global goodwill, it has failed to receive adequate support during critical times. 'India is respected in many countries of the world, but when the need arose, no one stood with India. It is a matter of concern that many countries are doing business with us, but why did they not stand up at the time of need?' he questioned. Criticising trade relations with China, he said, 'Trade is being done with China; everyone saw what China did. The central government should make a decision that for the next ten years, we will not allow any Chinese goods to come to India. Everything for the rich is coming from China. Farmers need fertilisers, but the things required for the fertilisers are not coming.' Turning his attack towards the Uttar Pradesh government, the SP MP from Kannauj said the BJP's double-engine government has failed in the state. He alleged that the state administration has mismanaged electricity, health, and education.

DMK govt persecuting Hindu leaders: Raja
1 2 Madurai: Calling the DMK govt 'strongly anti-Hindu,' senior BJP leader H Raja alleged on Monday that it was targeting Hindu religious leaders and supporters using police, as seen in the recent case of Madurai Adheenam. Raja led a demonstration by BJP cadres in Madurai on Monday evening near Jhansi Rani Park, in support of the 293rd pontiff of Madurai Adheenam, Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnana Sambandha Desika Swamigal. The seer was recently subjected to inquiry by Chennai cyber crime police for his alleged communal remarks following a road accident at Ulundurpet on May 2. Raja said the DMK govt was reacting to anything and everything out of fear. "They will be out of power in 2026 for sure. So, they are needlessly waging a war against Hindu society and religion, and showing their anti-Hindu stance by actions such as this and persecuting Hindu religious leaders who do not favour them. They are using police as a tool for it," he said. Saying that the Adheenam was subjected to inquiry even as he was recovering from a surgery, Raja said the Stalin govt was acting like a 'Taliban' govt.
