TRAIN operators in the north of England have made cancellations and issued do not travel notices ahead of forecasted severe weather brought in by Storm Floris. The Met Office issued a yellow warning for York and North Yorkshire for Monday (August 4) into the next day due to strong winds, and services which pass through York could be affected. LNER are advising that its customers do not travel north of Newcastle on Monday, August 4. The train operator said the weather warning will disrupt various routes on its network. It said: "Alternative travel options will be extremely limited due to expected road closures and other train operators will also be affected. "If you are travelling to and from stations south of Newcastle, please check before you travel, as trains may be subject to delay or short-notice cancellation." TransPennine Express said train services between Newcastle and Edinburgh will be cancelled and disruption is expected until the end of the day on Monday, amid other cancellations to services between Carlisle and Glasgow, and the Scottish capital. The national meteorological service for the UK said Storm Floris is likely to bring a spell of "unseasonably strong and potentially disruptive winds to the area" on Monday (August 4) into early the following day. All of York is set to be affected, along with parts of Ryedale up to North Yorkshire coast north of Scarborough, and the North Yorkshire Moors.
