What's open and closed: A guide to a wintry 2025 Family Day in London Ontario

Meteorologists are telling Londoners to bundle up for this year's Family Day weekend.
Up to 15 centimetres of snow are expected to fall Saturday, with temperatures taking a dip to minus 20 with the windchill Sunday night.
Here's a list of what's open and closed and what to do to keep the family entertained during the provincial holiday.
Recreation
Families can fish for free in Ontario without the need to buy a fishing licence or Outdoors Card from Feb. 15 to 17. All fishing regulations still apply.
The London Children's Museum is hosting a Family Day event on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Families can learn about the discovery of maple syrup at the Kinsmen Fanshawe Sugar Bush from Feb. 15 to 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Museum of Ontario Archeology has a day of full activities on Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The skating trail will be open at Storybook Gardens.
The City of London has planned a host of free Family Day recreation activities at community centres throughout the city on Monday. A full schedule can be found here.
Transit
The London Transit Commission will operate on a holiday schedule.
Shopping
White Oaks Mall and CF Masonville Place are closed Monday. Select Wine Rack locations are open.

LCBO & Beer Stores
All LCBO, Beer Store and the Labatt Brewery retail store will be closed.
Government offices
All government offices and buildings at the provincial and municipal levels will be closed.
All branches of the London Public Library will also be closed, except for the Central Branch, which will be hosting this year's Heritage Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The theme is Growing Together in the Forest City.
Banks
All bank locations will be closed.

(AP) — A few days after brothers John and Matthew Gaudreau died when they were struck by a driver while riding bicycles on the eve of their sister Katie's wedding, family friends were visiting parents Guy and Jane at their home during a rainstorm. Looking outside after the skies cleared, they saw a double rainbow that brought them some momentary peace. Since then, Jane Gaudreau had not gotten any signs she attributed to her sons, so she sat in their room Friday and asked them for some divine intervention to clear out bad weather in time for an event to honor their legacies. After a brief scare of a tornado watch the night before, a rainbow appeared Saturday morning about an hour before the sun came out for the inaugural Gaudreau Family 5K Walk/Run and Family Day.

What's open and closed in Ottawa on Victoria Day
Social Sharing The Victoria Day long weekend marks the beginning of the summer season for many Canadians. The federal holiday on Monday means most businesses and public facilities won't be open, with a few exceptions. Here's a look at what's open and closed in Ottawa on Victoria Day this Monday, May 19. Retail Certain areas of the city, such as the Glebe and ByWard Market, can open stores on holidays under the province's Retail Business Holidays Act if they want. This also applies to grocery stores. The Rideau Centre and Tanger Outlets will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bayshore Shopping Centre and St. Laurent Shopping Centre are closed. Place d'Orléans will also be closed, but with some unspecified exceptions. Groceries Most grocery stores in the city will be closed, but there are a few exceptions in places under the act mentioned above. Alcohol All LCBOs will be closed. Five Ottawa Beer Stores will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking and transit All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions will apply. OC Transpo will run on a Sunday schedule. Confederation Line trains will run from about 8 a.m. to 11 Trillium Line will run from about 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Rideau Centre OC Transpo Customer Service Centre will be open. The OC Transpo Lost and Found at St-Laurent Station will be closed. Regular Para Transpo bookings or recurring trips for Monday are automatically cancelled. The National Gallery of Canada and agriculture, aviation, history, nature, science and war museums are open. The Ottawa Art Gallery and Diefenbunker will be closed. Splash pads open on May 16, weather permitting. Washrooms open at Mooney's Bay, Britannia and Petrie Island beaches on May 17. City services There will be no garbage, recycling, green bin or bulky item collection. Pick up will resume on Tuesday and collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Ottawa City Hall and client service centres at Ben Franklin Place, 580 Terry Fox Dr. and 255 Centrum Blvd. will be closed. The provincial court at 100 Constellation Dr. will also be closed. The city's 311 contact centre will be open for urgent matters. The Trail Road Waste Facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All branches and services of the Ottawa Public Library will be closed. Digital content will still be available through its website. Health, dental, and child care services The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed. The Health811 line will be open. City child-care centres will be closed. The Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed. The city's dental clinics will be closed.

Power outages close a number of London schools day after intense storm
The city is still working to recover this morning from a brief but destructive thunderstorm that tore through Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon's severe thunderstorm brought winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, along with torrential rainfall and lightning. Power has mostly been restored to thousands of Londoners, however there are a number of small outages throughout the city, according to London Hydro's outage map. Westmount and Trafalgar public schools are closed Wednesday because of the outage, as are St. George and St. Rose of Lima Catholic elementary schools. Tuesday's thunderstorm formed on top of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay then moved south. When it reached London, the powerful winds caused tree damage in parts of the city.
