SOG busts LPG stealing racket in Panigate, one held

Vadodara: The Special Operations Group (SOG) on Sunday unearthed an illegal LPG cylinder refilling racket and arrested one person from the Panigate area of the city.
The accused, identified as Allarakha Sindhi, was allegedly siphoning gas from filled LPG cylinders at his residence and transferring it into empty ones, which were then sold in the black market.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOG team raided his premises and seized multiple LPG cylinders along with the equipment used for illegal gas transfer.
Police officials said the operation posed a significant threat to public safety. "The accused was endangering the lives of people in the vicinity. A minor gas leak could have led to a major fire or explosion," said an official.

Ahmedabad: A man who has studied only till Class 10 was arrested by Ahmedabad rural police's Special Operations Group (SOG) on Saturday for illegally practising allopathy in Shiyavada village of Sanand taluka. The accused, identified as Amit Khokam Biswas, is originally from Balgariya village of West Bengal's 24 Parganas district and currently resides in Sanand. He was operating a makeshift clinic out of a tin shed on the road to Kalana village and was found dispensing medicines without a medical degree. Acting on specific intelligence, SOG cops Mahesh Parsottam and Ajitdan Sagar, under the supervision of inspector S N Ramani, carried out the raid. SOG cops seized medicines and equipment worth Rs 13,363 from his clinic. An FIR was lodged at Sanand GIDC police station under Section 30 of the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963. Ahmedabad: The city's Special Operations Group (SOG) on Saturday seized 489.410 grams of suspected methamphetamine worth Rs 49 lakh and arrested two persons near Bhakti Circle on the Ring Road-Nikol stretch. The FIR was lodged by the SOG team after the operation was conducted based on a tip-off. According to the FIR, the SOG received intelligence around 4.40pm that two individuals were seen near the HP petrol pump, close to Bhakti Circle, possibly carrying methamphetamine drugs. Both were described by their attire, one in a reddish-checked shirt and jeans, and the other in a green-checked shirt and jeans. An SOG team proceeded towards the spot in an autorickshaw. Around 5.40pm, the two suspects were located a short distance from Avkar Homes. One of them tried to flee but was caught near the society's gate. After informing seniors and calling for additional support, the suspects were detained, and an official search was initiated in the presence of two independent witnesses. The suspects were taken to the SOG office, where a forensic team was called. In their presence, the seized substance was tested, photographed and weighed. "The drug seized weighed exactly 489.410 grams, and it tested positive as methamphetamine," the FIR notes. The total market value of the meth and other seized items — including phones and cash — has been pegged at Rs 49.05 lakh. No other objectionable items were found in the rickshaw or nearby vehicle, the FIR states. The FIR further states that during questioning, the accused revealed they procured the contraband from two individuals, both of whom are currently absconding. The accused, both originally from Modasa in Aravalli district, have been booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is ongoing by the SOG.

Ahmedabad: A team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the City Crime Branch seized a stockpile of banned electronic smoking devices worth Rs 70,000 from a flat near Fatehwadi Road during a raid on Saturday evening. According to the FIR filed with the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) police, the operation was based on specific information received during patrolling by an SOG unit. The police were tipped off about the illegal storage and sale of electronic cigarettes from a flat on the fourth floor of a housing society block near Sarkhej. Acting on the input, a police team reached the premises and conducted a search in accordance with legal procedure. Inside the flat, officials found 20 units of e-cigarette devices of various flavours and designs, placed on a glass table. Cash amounting to Rs 1,800 was also recovered. On questioning, the individuals present failed to produce any legal documents or permits for the possession or sale of these devices, which are prohibited under Indian law due to their nicotine content.
