Mowed down at red light: Teen girls killed in Temerloh, drugs found in driver's car
Temerloh district police chief ACP Mazlan Hassan said the incident, which occurred at around 11pm, claimed the lives of 18-year-old Yamaha Ego Avantiz rider Nur Irdina Shaffiya Muhammad Nazri and her pillion rider, Aneez Irdiena Sofya Khairul Azman, national news agency Bernama reported today.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
'Initial investigations indicate the girls were travelling from Mentakab towards the Bukit Angin roundabout. While stopped at a red light, a Perodua Bezza, believed to have failed to slow down, crashed into the rear of their motorcycle,' he said in a statement today.
Mazlan added that the bodies were taken to Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah for post-mortem examinations this morning.
Separately, a search of the car led to the discovery of plastic packets suspected to contain syabu and heroin, with an estimated street value of over RM6,000.
The 38-year-old driver, who is from Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, has been detained for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Rapper Caprice is being sued by entrepreneur Asyraf Khalid over Instagram posts that allegedly accused him of abusing his family ties and influence. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The Kuala Lumpur High Court today ordered rapper Caprice to archive 31 allegedly defamatory posts about an entrepreneur from his Instagram account. Lawyer Abdul Hakeem Aiman said Justice Anand Ponnudurai made the ruling after allowing an ex parte ad interim injunction sought by Asyraf Khalid against Caprice, whose real name is Ariz Ramli, 39. 'All publications issued by the defendant (Caprice) relating to or referring to the plaintiff (Asyraf) must be archived starting today until the disposal of the inter parte injunction application, which will be heard on Sept 2,' Bernama quoted Hakeem as saying. He said Caprice has not yet filed a statement of defence. Asyraf, 33, filed the suit on Aug 4, claiming that Caprice had published 31 allegedly defamatory posts against him on his Instagram profile between July 30 and Aug 2. He said the defamatory posts involved a podcast where a personal trainer, Murad Zaidi, appeared. 'I invited Murad so that he could share his experience in running a gym and the challenges he faced,' he said. Asyraf claimed Caprice's posts subjected him to public ridicule, dragged his father, Khalid Mohamad Jiwa (better known as Datuk K), into the dispute and tarnished his family's reputation. Asyraf is seeking an injunction to stop Caprice and his associates from repeating or sharing the posts and their removal from social media within 24 hours of judgment. He is also seeking a public video apology on all of Caprice's platforms, as well as general damages, aggravated damages, costs and other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

Woman seen jumping from moving car on Sprint highway, police seek witnesses
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Police are urging witnesses to come forward after an unidentified woman was seen jumping out of a moving vehicle along the Sprint expressway in a 14-second video that has been widely shared on social media. Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the footage showed the woman opening the rear door of a vehicle before leaping out and rolling onto the road. 'The Royal Malaysia Police confirms it has not received any reports over the incident and urges anyone involved to come forward and lodge a police report at any nearby police station,' he said in a statement. Zara Qairina probe found elements of bullying, neglect, says Saifuddin
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the investigation paper on the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir was submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers this morning. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today said that the probe into the death of Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir revealed elements of bullying, neglect and sexual harassment. He told the Dewan Rakyat that these elements were uncovered after recording statements from 195 witnesses, including her hostel mates. 'Yes, there are elements of bullying. That is clear. 'There are also elements of neglect as she (Zara) had complained to the school. So the police are looking into the latter,' he said. Saifuddin added that police had collected evidence, including Zara's diary. 'Her diary entries give us a glimpse into the problems she was enduring,' he said. 'We opened her diary, we read what she wrote. We know her last movements, where she was at 11pm, 10pm what happened in the dorm, at 1am where she was. 'All of that is corroborative evidence. It is important because it establishes her level of thought, her mental process at the time.' He also said that there was no cover-up in the investigation. Likewise, he said there was no truth to claims that Zara's death was linked to high-profiled individuals or that she had been shoved into a washing machine. 'Claims of attempted cover-ups and manipulation are very serious allegations which do not reflect the reality on the ground in terms of what the authorities have been doing,' he said. He added that the suspected non-compliance with standard operating procedures during the initial investigation had not impacted the integrity of the probe. 'The investigation paper on Zara's case was submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers this morning,' he said. Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her school's hostel in Papar, Sabah. She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital the following day. Last week, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said that the case, initially classified as sudden death, was now being investigated for possible criminal elements, including bullying. Saifuddin had decided to address Zara's case at the lower house as it was frequently brought up by MPs.
