Forum asks Madurai district administration not to permit religious meet

Members of Madurai Madha Nallinakka Makkal Kootamaipu, demanding the district administration to stop Hindutva organisations from propagating about the Murugan conference in Madurai, submitted a petition to Collector M.S. Sangeetha here on Monday.
As Hindutva organisations announced conducting the Murugan conference in Madurai on June 22, advocate K. Vanchinathan, one of the petitioners, said that it was a plan of the fringe elements to initiate communal differences in the State.
'While Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has spoken about the progressiveness of the State and how it had protected the minorities from the fringe group elements, how did Madurai district administration allow them to organise such a conference,' he asked.
While it was informed that the police were yet to issue them permission, on what basis, they were allowed to lay the foundation stone and propagate about the event through media and posters, Mr. Vanchinathan asked.
Condemning discrepancies in letting them conduct such a conference, he said that if it was not stopped, they would stage a protest, he asserted.

BJP's Murugan conference is communal politics: Seeman

Trichy: BJP is playing communal politics with Lord Murugan and it can't deceive people, said NTK coordinator Seeman. Talking to reporters at Thirumayam in Pudukkottai district, Seeman said BJP is conducting the conference 'with purpose' and termed his move to elevate Murugan as 'sincere'. "There is a value for Murugan in the state. Why didn't you (BJP) elevate Him all these days? You take up Rama in Uttar Pradesh, Puri Jagannath in Odisha, Aiyyappa in Kerala, and then Murugan here. Do you think people here will be deceived," he asked. Calling himself as Murugan's grandson, Seeman said people will only remember him after Murugan while chanting "Vel, Vel" It may be noted that BJP has invited Seeman for the Murugan devotee conference to be held in Madurai. Talking to reporters in Trichy later, Seeman said home minister Amit Shah was visiting the state to add more parties to the BJP-led NDA alliance. He reiterated that his party would contest alone in the upcoming elections.

NIA to probe murder of former Bajrang Dal leader Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru after MHA approval

NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given its nod to hand over the probe into the murder of former Bajrang Dal leader Suhas Shetty in Karnataka's Mangaluru last month to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Shetty, the prime accused in the 2022 murder of a 23-year-old man named Mohammed Fazil, was killed by a group of assailants on May 1 near Kinnipadavu. So far, local police have arrested 11 people in connection with the murder. According to the officials, the NIA will now investigate Shetty's murder case after it received a communication from the MHA allowing it to take up the case. The anti-terror agency will take police remand of all the accused and question them in detail about the case. According to the police, five to six men armed with swords and sharp weapons intercepted Shetty's car and attacked him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. Shetty's murder triggered widespread unrest across the Dakshina Kannada district, with the police enforcing prohibitory orders, suspending public transport, and political groups demanding a central investigation into the murder. Shetty, 42, was a well-known figure in coastal Karnataka's political undercurrent, with a long-standing association with Hindutva organisations like the Bajrang Dal. He had five criminal cases against him and was considered a rowdy-sheeter. Shetty's name came to national attention in 2022 as a key accused in the murder of Fazil, a case that intensified communal tensions in the region. Notably, Fazil's murder occurred just two days after the killing of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru in Sullia, which significantly heightened tensions across coastal Karnataka.

Different gods being used by BJP for political gains: VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan

CHENNAI: TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai and VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday accused the BJP of politicising religion by organising a Murugan conference in Madurai while ignoring the principles of social justice. Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Selvaperunthagai said, 'When it comes to social justice, Tamil Nadu stands as a model — not Uttar Pradesh or Gujarat. It is the Congress at the national level and the DMK at the state level that have consistently raised their voice for caste-based census.' Speaking about the BJP's Murugan conference at Madurai, Selvaperunthagi said, 'We are not saying that holding a Murugan conference is wrong. But our question is — will the BJP dare to organise a Murugan conference in Gujarat or Uttar Pradesh? Do they have the courage to tell the people there that a deity named Murugan exists?' VCK chief Thirumavalavan while addressing journalists at the airport, said, 'They are using different gods for political gains — Ram and Ganesha in the north, Durga and Kali in Bengal, and Murugan in Tamil Nadu. But Tamil people will not fall for this.. Even Lord Murugan will reject such divisive politics,' he said.
