"Pakistan's credibility is very low, its delegation will have no impact on international platforms": Defence expert
'There are reports that Pakistan is going to send a delegation abroad, and naturally, they are copying India, which is sending seven delegations to different countries to expose their (Pakistan's) lies and explain Operation Sindoor. This move by Pakistan, mirroring India, is not going to have any effect on the international platform,' Srivastava told ANI.
He said that Pakistan has no credibility in fighting terrorism, pointing out that the al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was found hiding in Pakistan, and that many of the UN-designated terrorists live in that country with impunity.
'Pakistan is a nation where the world's most dangerous terrorist, Osama bin Laden, was found hiding and was eventually killed in a US Special Operation. It is also a nation where more than half of the United Nations-designated terrorists live. It is known as an epicentre of terrorism. They use terrorists as a strategic asset. As such, Pakistan's credibility is very low,' he said.
Srivastava said that India has been able to counter the disinformation campaign by Pakistan following the Operation Sindoor, adding that all party delegations that are soon going to India's different partner countries will be effective in this regard.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha, BJP leader Baijayant Panda, DMK leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Eknath Shinde will be leading the seven delegations which will go across the world.
The All-Party Delegations will project India's national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations. They would carry forth the country's strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism to the world. Members of Parliament from different parties, prominent political personalities, and distinguished diplomats will be part of each delegation.
The tour is expected to last 10 days and is likely to commence on May 23.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, in which precision strikes destroyed terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoK), eliminating nearly 100 terrorists. (ANI)

‘3,000 bighas? Is this a joke': Gauhati HC baulks at land allotment to cement firm in tribal district
GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court, in a hearing last week, expressed shock over the allotment of 3,000 bighas (around 4 square kilometers) of land to a private cement company in Assam's Dima Hasao district. '3,000 bighas? What is going on? 3,000 bighas allotted to a private company?' Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi said during a recent hearing, a video of which has gone viral on social media. When G Goswami, counsel for Mahabal Cements, argued, 'It's a barren land,' Justice Medhi retorted, 'We know how barren is NC Hills. 3,000 bighas? What kind of a decision is this? Is this some kind of a joke or what?' At this, the counsel said, 'We need it,' but the judge responded, 'Your need is not the issue. Public interest is the issue.' A batch of petitions has been filed by local villagers resisting eviction. The company has also filed one seeking protection, alleging that miscreants were interfering with its operations. Dima Hasao, a hill district, is administered by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The BJP-ruled council approved the land allotment. In its order of August 12, the court said that a cursory glance at the case revealed the land sought to be allotted was about 3,000 bighas, which 'itself appeared to be extraordinary.' It directed the council to produce relevant records, including the policy under which such a large tract of land could be allotted to a factory. 'The aforesaid direction has been given by taking into account that the district is a Sixth Schedule district under the Constitution of India where the priority has to be given to the rights and interest of the tribal people residing there,' the order said. The court noted that the area in question, Umrangso, is recognised as an environmental hotspot with hot springs, migratory bird stopovers and wildlife.

Country will ask for affidavit from Election Commission of India: Rahul Gandhi
A day after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar gave an ultimatum to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to file an affidavit regarding his allegations of voter roll manipulations in Karnataka within a week, the Congress leader hit back at the CEC saying that 'the entire country will ask for an affidavit from the Election Commission of India'. 'A day will come when the INDIA bloc will have a government in Bihar as well in the Centre. Then action would be taken. Election Commissioner, you understand it very well, that if you will not do your job properly, then strict action is going to be taken against you,' Mr. Gandhi, who is on his 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', said at a rally in Gaya district on Monday (August 18, 2025). 'Election Commission has said that if I do not give an affidavit in one week then what I said is baseless. Wait for some time, the entire country will ask for an affidavit from it. We will reveal vote theft in every State. SIR is a new way to steal votes,' he alleged. The Congress leader urged the crowd to prevent 'vote theft' in the upcoming Bihar Assembly election. Mr. Gandhi said 'the people of Bihar will teach a lesson' to the poll body and Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'if they attempt vote theft' in the State. UNHCR suspends repatriation of refugees to Sri Lanka
UNHCR, the refugee agency of the United Nations, has temporarily suspended the process of facilitating the repatriation of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees apprehending arrest upon their arrival in Sri Lanka. The repatriation of seven refugees from Tiruchi to Colombo on August 14, 2025, was called off in the last minute amid reports of at least four refugees being detained on charges of violating immigration laws on arrival in Sri Lanka. According to official sources, Freeman Richard Velvavandram (54), whose return was facilitated by the UNHCR was arrested on arrival at the Colombo international airport on August 12, 2025. He was produced before a Judicial Magistrate and let on bail. However, a review of the voluntary repatriation documentation revealed no prior security concerns associated with his return, the sources said. Similarly on May 28, 2025, another Tamil refugee who left the country decades ago during the civil war was arrested after he landed in Jaffna. A Sri Lankan Tamil couple that flew to the Jaffna international airport without UNHCR facilitation in the first week of August was also arrested. The couple had reportedly been residing in India since 1996 in the Mandapam refugee camp in Tamil Nadu. Upon arrival, they were detained by the immigration authorities and handed over to the police for further investigation, the sources said. This is the first time that Sri Lankan authorities are arresting voluntarily returning refugees on charges of leaving the country without a valid passport or travel documents. Since 2002, the UNHCR has repatriated 18,643 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees to their home country. 'The fundamental principle is to ensure the safety and dignity of the voluntarily returning refugees. Arrests are not made unless there is a criminal case pending. Violation of immigration laws are condoned since the refugees fled the country fearing threat to their lives in the ethnic conflict,' a senior official involved in the repatriation process told The Hindu on Monday (August 18, 2025). Taking diplomatic route Confirming that voluntary repatriation of Tamil refugees had been temporarily suspended since the organisation wanted to avoid the risk of their getting arrested, the official who did not want to be quoted said the issue of returnees being arrested upon arrival in Sri Lanka was being taken up through diplomatic channels. 'The process of repatriation would be put on hold till such time there is an assurance from the Sri Lankan authorities that the refugees would not be arrested for violating immigration rules and will be treated with dignity,' the official said. The arrests began only May this year. Otherwise, it was a smooth exit for refugees who went back home, the official said and added that the matter was taken up with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and Sri Lanka.
