In spite of all that, Better Man is a remarkably confident, assured musical, a film about the perils of fame and stardom and the vices that go along with it. More than anything, Better Man is worth watching because of Williams' music, and director Michael Gracey brings it to life with a remarkable degree of vision. The movie follows Frank (James Caan), a highly skilled professional thief who treats his work like a job. Frank wants to walk away after one big job, but when the person he works for won't let him go, he's forced to fight for his right to a quiet life. It's a familiar story brought to life by Mann, Tangerine Dream, and James Caan. Thief is a remarkably confident, tense first feature. It remains one of the best movies of the 1980s. They did it for the lulz. A pair of well-known crypto bros paid an eye-watering $250,000 for a broken Nintendo Switch and a pair of underwear belonging to the CEO of GameStop as part of a New York City charity auction that raised money for a children's hospital this week, The Post has learned. The duo — who declined to give their real names for safety concerns — said they were willing to dole out the hefty sum for the items because of the symbolism the junk held to their fellow folks behind the 2021 GameStop short squeeze escapade. 4 The man behind the famous crypto wallet FBB4 and his partner, who will not reveal their identities, won the auction with a $250,000 bid. Stephen Yang for the New York Post 'Obviously, when you have like the CEO of the company saying that he's going to include his underwear and things like that, it's now becoming like an incredible meme in the GameStop subculture,' explained one half of the pair, who would only go by his initials, DC, citing safety concerns. 'So we've really aligned with the idea that we could have this part of the GameStop lore.' His partner, JM, added: 'That's going on the wall!' The duo — who are the ones behind the famous crypto wallet FBB4 — has been avid GameStop meme followers since the dying video game retailer's stock was infamously short-squeezed by random online investors as a way to stick it to Wall Street. 4 The refurbished Switch came with the damaged box, the stapler and the offending staple. GameStop again entered the annals of Internet lore on June 5, with another incident known in the gaming community as 'Staplegate.' The now-legendary mix-up came when a worker at a Staten Island GameStop unwittingly destroyed a handful of Nintendo Switch 2s — which were about to go on sale, rare and highly coveted by gamers — by stapling receipts onto the boxes. The young man — whose identity his employers are keeping under wraps — was terrified. 4 The GameStop CEO offered his used underwear if the auction price went to six figures. 'I know he was a little nervous because the first thought is, 'Oh my God, I'm going to lose my job!' I think his first reaction was 'Uh-oh!'' said Chris Toro, the district manager for GameStop's metro locations, adding that the employee was in his 'early 20s.' 'He was a new associate. Probably his first job. And we said, 'Listen, people make mistakes. So we took care of it.' GameStop refurbished the broken consoles and replaced the damaged ones — but auctioned off what they claim was the first to get pummeled by the employee's stapler. It came with the original damaged box, the black stapler and the offending staple, 'carefully extracted and preserved,' and the GameStop CEO, Ryan Cohen, offered to throw in a pair of his unmentionables as the price climbed to six figures. 'Why not?' said Cohen, denying that it might be weird for another man to have his drawers in their home: 'I never thought about it.' The overarching goal was to spin the Staplegate incident into something positive, he continued. 'It's on brand … We always come up with crazy s–t at GameStop. There's never a dull day.' 4 The money will benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. JM denied that the undergarments were the reason he and DC pounced on the auction, but admitted it was cool to have something so personal belonging to the 'Meme King,' and is hopeful for the chance to meet Cohen. 'We're pretty stoked for that, though. It might feel a little awkward. I don't know if I can look him in the eye,' JM joked. JM and DC had expertly waited until the final minutes of the auction to submit their $250,000 bid, which was creeping to the limit of $269,420 they were willing to fork over. Every penny will benefit the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, which serve 12 million children across the US and Canada every year, battling every type of disease or health defect. 'It can be for lifesaving treatment, it can be for programs and services for patients and their families, it can be for research, it can be for medical equipment,' said Aimee Daily, the hospital's president and CEO. 'We really believe that this is actually going to be a catalyst for additional fundraising for hospitals through our extra life-saving programs … We think with GameStop's creativity and their support of this, this will continue to grow. And the $250,000 will become even more.'

War Of The Worlds 2025 On Amazon Prime: Review
You may have heard that the new War of the Worlds movie on Amazon Prime, starring Ice Cube and Eva Longoria, was just released to a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, I (bravely) watched it to ask the question: Is it really that bad? Yes. Yes it is. Amazon describes this movie as a "fresh take on the legendary novel of the same name" and a "thrilling out-of-this-world adventure that is filled with present-day themes of technology, surveillance, and privacy." Nay, this isn't the first adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1898 novel The War of the Worlds — move-wise, we most recently had the Stephen Spielberg version back in '05, which was fairly well regarded. The 1938 Orson Welles radio adaptation even caused some people to think a real-life alien invasion was happening, but don't ask me about original-versus-adaptation because I haven't seen, read, or listened to the story before. I know, going Ice Cube version first is almost certainly what H.G. Wells would have wanted. This movie was first announced in September 2020, not as a War of the Worlds adaptation but as a "grounded sci-fi film in the vein of District 9 that touches on themes of privacy versus surveillance." It was a "fully remote production," which makes sense given the COVID-19 of it all. Why it was released in the year 2025, I have no idea. My first qualm is not with the movie itself. Despite giving the blood of my firstborn in payment for Amazon, the movie starts with a smug "This movie is brought to you with limited interruptions," followed by two and a half minutes of ads. Except my laptop froze the first time, so it was more like four minutes. Why am I still seeing ads? Don't you have all the money, Amazon? I only agreed to do this story because it was a 90-minute movie! Anyway, so pretty much this entire movie is a screen recording of the computer Domestic Terror Analyst William Radford (played by Ice Cube) as mysterious forces attack the world. If you're the kind of person who thinks that action movies could use more Slack notifications, congratulations, you will love this film. The way different tabs are moved to and fro genuinely made me a little motion sick. Now, I promised myself that I wouldn't pause on every other frame to make fun of it, because I'm not paid enough for that. The exception is the list they show of all the most serious terror threats' names. Tag yourselves: I'm Fancy Bear. Anyway, William has a daughter whom he stalks. Think I'm exaggerating? He has a tab on his laptop called "Faith surveillance" and watches CCTV footage to criticize her for getting a muffin rather than an egg for breakfast. Who says you can't make your heroic lead a psychopath? William also tries to get his video game-playing son a government job, but he says he doesn't want to be "spying on what's in people's Amazon carts." I cannot be held responsible for what will happen if you try and drink every time there is an Amazon reference. When the apocalypse shit hits the fan, a better movie would probably have the lead immediately get up from his computer. This is not that movie. William just messages his daughter's boyfriend (incidentally, an Amazon driver), telling him to go check on her. As chaos reigns in the streets, a video call from his son actually freezes on the same face I was making while watching this movie: This movie is told in real time, which means we get to see scintillating action, such as William making a spreadsheet. Remember when the description said "thrilling"? Throughout this movie, I was haunted by two questions. Firstly, why does my cat keep biting me? Secondly, would this movie be any less of a slog if I were watching it as a so-bad-it 's-good movie with friends? Probably, but the whole schtick of this film gets old real quick. "At least it's nearly the end," I kept thinking, before looking at the progress bar and realizing that it was, in fact, not near the end. But end, it eventually did. No, War of the Worlds is not bad in a spectacular way (such as Megalopolis) or in an offensive way (also: Megalopolis). Instead, it is bad in the blandest, most incoherent sense of the word. But could have worked if it was released in that era of lockdown where we were all drinking too much. Zero aliens out of five. War of the Worlds is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
