Celtic get transfer boost in pursuit of midfield 'target' while Belgian side over the moon after landing Hoops prospect
Celtic have been given a boost in their search for a central midfield player this summer - with French side Guincamp looking to cash in on star man Kalidou Sidibe.
Brendan Rodgers welcomed Swedish winger Benjamin Nygren to Parkhead on Friday after completing a £1.3million switch from Nordsjælland, but is still keen to bolster his options in the middle third of the pitch.
Sidibe was touted as a potential £1.7m target for the Hoops earlier this year, with the 26-year-old missing just three league games as his team lost out in the Ligue 1 play-offs.
And after failing to win promotion to the top-flight, reports in France claim that Guimcamp are open to offloading some of their key men in the summer window in a bid to raise some much-needed cash.
Foot National write that 6ft 7 inches giant Sidibe is one of five players alongside Enzo Basilio, Sabri Guendouz, Alpha Sissoko and Jacques Swie who the club believe they can bank sizeable transfer fees for.
Sidibe - who is eligible to represent Mali at international level - is into the final 12 months of his contract in the north-west of France.
Several players on the fringes of the Celtic squad are expected to be moved on this summer. And one player who has sealed a permanent move away from the club is young left-back Matthew Anderson.
The 21-year-old rose through the Hoops youth academy but did not make a first-team appearance, spending the whole of last season on loan with Austrian second-tier side Admira Wacker.
But those 22 outings have done enough to convince Belgian Pro League outfit KV Kortrijk to hand the Scotland U21 international a three-year contract.
And the club's sporting director Nils Vanneste believes they have a real talent on their hands.
Speaking to the club's website after the transfer was confirmed, he said: "After the departure of Dion De Neve, we had to strengthen the left-back position.
"We are happy that we can sign a young talent with an offensive attitude with Matthew."
Speaking to Record Sport earlier this month, Stephen McManus, who coached Anderson with the Hoops B-team, predicted a massive future ahead for the youngster.
He said: "He's got a massive future in the game, absolutely massive. He's a terrific boy with a brilliant family, and again, you can only stay with us, with the B team, for a couple of seasons.
"Matthew outgrew the B team two years ago. That's why he's not played for the B team. That's why the next stage of his development was to go out and loan.
"Some people make their debut at 16 and then go and play for the rest of their careers. Some people are 21, 20, they need to go a different route. That's fine.
"But what you need to do is, when you get an opportunity, you need to try and become a football player, and that's what Matthew's done.
"He's a terrific boy, terrific worker from a terrific family, and he'll be a top player."

Man Utd join Saudi Pro League outfit 'in the race' for old transfer target
Manchester United have been linked with PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz before and it has now been claimed that the Red Devils are once again courting the Spaniard's signature Manchester United are said to have rekindled their interest in Fabian Ruiz after originally trying to sign the Paris Saint-Germain star back in the summer of 2022. The Spain international, 29, became the subject of interest from United as they looked to revamp their engine room after failing to lure Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford. Ruiz ended up joining PSG from Napoli, though, instead of moving to Manchester. The Red Devils ended up signing Casemiro from Real Madrid and shelved interest in De Jong, who is still on the books at Barcelona. But a fresh report from France claims that Ruiz is back on United's radar as they seek to reshape a beleaguered squad which were responsible for the club's worst ever Premier League finish last season. Footmercato claim that Al-Nassr from the Saudi Pro League are also keen on the idea of signing Ruiz, who is contracted until 2027. Unfortunately for United and Ruiz's other suitors, the report goes on to add that PSG - and in particular Luis Enrique - value the midfield maestro as a key figure in the team that emphatically won the Champions League last month. They would prefer for 'continuity' in the engine room with Ruiz striking up a tidy understanding with Joao Neves and Vitinha. United are keen to add quality signings in their bid to rebuild under Ruben Amorim and have already captured Matheus Cunha from Wolves, with Brentford 's Bryan Mbeumo expected to follow him through the door. Join the debate! Would Ruiz be a good signing for Man Utd? Let us know here Further signings are expected, though outgoings will be required if Amorim is to have the flexibility he desires in the transfer market after United failed to qualify for the Champions League last term. It's said United are keen on the experience Ruiz would bring to Amorim's team. He has won three consecutive French titles since swapping Naples for Paris and has 39 international caps to his name for Spain, whom he won Euro 2024 with. United have also been linked with a new goalkeeper after another mixed season for Andre Onana. It has since been reported, though, that the Cameroon star is planning to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Manchester United interested in ambitious move for experienced PSG midfielder
Manchester United are interested in Paris Saint-Germain and Spain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, but a successful move could prove very difficult to pull off. The 29-year-old was a big part in PSG's immense season last time round as they completed a treble of the Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France. The Spaniard made 58 appearances across all competitions, 17 of which came in the successful Champions League campaign. Ruiz started the final against Inter Milan alongside Vitinha and Joao Neves, the midfield trio which was hugely influential over the season under Luis Enrique. After plenty of fine performances it is no surprise that Ruiz has attracted attention and Manchester United are reportedly admirers of the former Napoli man. French publication Foot Mercato report that there is interest from Saudi Arabia, specifically from Al-Nassr, and also from Old Trafford. It is not the first time the Red Devils have been linked with Ruiz, as the English team were named as suitors for him when he made the switch from Napoli to PSG in 2022. A deal to sign Ruiz will be far from easy to secure, though, given the contrasting fortunes of Manchester United and PSG of late. The French champions announced themselves as the best team in Europe last season, with their 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final leaving little doubt over that. Whereas the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League table and their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final meant they missed their final chance to play Champions League football – or European football of any brand – next season. PSG also do not want to let Ruiz go, with the Spaniard an important part of Enrique's plans, as he was throughout the 2024-25 season. The manager said of Ruiz earlier this year: 'I'm very happy with what he brings on and off the pitch. He can still improve, like everyone else. He always plays hard, he's always ready to play a minute or 90, he's very important for us, I'm very happy with his performances. 'He's sometimes been criticized, but he's one of my best midfielders. He knows how to play around his teammates. He can make assists, play between the lines, play without the ball, create chances, he has a good shot. 'We mustn't forget that he was voted the best player at Euro 2024.' The midfielder is under contract in Paris until 2027 and an extension is certainly a possibility if PSG want to guarantee that he will not be tempted away. More Trending Manchester United, as ever, have been linked with a numerous players during this transfer window, including in central midfield. While not in the same class as Ruiz, Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly a name on their radar as he is available for just £9m due to a release clause in his Foxes contract. The Red Devils are looking for improvement in multiple positions, with Bryan Mbeumo still their focus in attack as they look to get a deal done with Brentford. Goalkeeper Andre Onana's future is also uncertain and a replacement could be brought in, while other arrivals may depend on departures as the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are on the transfer list but agreeing deals for the forwards, who are on huge contracts, is not easy.
