Cannes Film Festival's new dress code is likely to catch out a plethora of attendees, but Amal Clooney isn't one of them. Kristen Stewart subtly challenged the "decency" dress code in a sheer skirt and Eva Longoria's sequin dress appeared to ignore any naked dress rules. Clooney, however, ensured she wouldn't be turned away from the red carpet by wearing a jaw-dropping, floor-length gown, albeit with a low-cut neckline and beautiful train.
On Friday, May 16, Clooney made an unexpected solo appearance on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet ahead of a screening of Bono: Stories of Surrender. For the prestigious occasion, the decorated lawyer wore an archival John Galliano-era Christian Dior off-the-shoulder gown featuring a sumptuous train. She completed the sophisticated outfit with Cartier jewelry, including a pair of sparkling diamond drop earrings.
While Clooney's gown appeared to abide by the festival's new dress code, the off-the-shoulder element of her outfit, and relatively low neckline, perhaps skirted the strict rules. Her John Galliano for Dior gown also featured an impressive train, which may have contravened Cannes Film Festival's new instructions. "Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted," the Cannes Film Festival FAQ reads.
Following the screening, Clooney changed into a gold mini dress, which was adorned with flowers, sequins, and crystals for an after-party with Bono.
Clooney previously attended Cannes Film Festival in 2016, where she supported husband George Clooney at the premiere of Money Monster.
As usual, Amal outshone her famous husband by wearing a lemon yellow, one-shoulder chiffon gown from Atelier Versace.

It took mere hours, but Elden Ring Nightreign already has duos in development thanks to the modding icon behind Dark Souls and Armored Core co-op

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The modding icon who added seamless co-op to several FromSoftware hits - including Dark Souls Remastered, Armored Core 6, and the base Elden Ring - has now turned their gaze to the developer's new multiplayer-focused game, Elden Ring Nightreign. Elden Ring Nightreign squeezes the open-world epic into tight, 45-minute-ish rounds designed around co-op play. But at the time of writing, you can only enter The Lands Between solo or in trios - there isn't an option to start a round with only two players. Hypothetically, the only way to play duos is to begin a match with three people and hope one of them leaves. Enter modder Yui, who got a two-player Elden Ring Nightreign session up and running just hours after the game's mammoth launch. In the description for the short demonstration of the in-development mod, Yui mentions that the mod "runs without connecting to the matchmaking server, [so] it is possible to use additional mods during gameplay." The modder also says they "made it for fun," but hopefully it sees a proper release some day - if FromSoftware doesn't add a duos matchmaking option first, that is. Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki recently admitted the team somewhat "neglected the duos aspect" while making the game since everyone was so focused on balancing trios to a tee. The lack of duos hasn't gone unnoticed, though, as Nightreign's Steam user reviews are the second-lowest in FromSoft history. Of course, simply adding a two-player mode and balancing the game around two players are different things entirely (the latter probably takes a lot more time to get just right), but I can imagine it's worth it for the couples who want to spend their date nights in Elden Ring Nightreign without getting interrupted by a third-wheeler. For now, you can check out Yui's other swell co-op mods on NexusMods. Stay prepared with our guide on all Elden Ring Nightreign classes and tier list

Elden Ring Nightreign patch 1.01 is out even if the game isn't – and welcome back FromSoftware, these patch notes don't tell us a darn thing

No matter where you live or play, it's not Elden Ring Nightreign release time just yet, but that hasn't stopped developer FromSoftware from releasing the game's first patch. Elden Ring Nightreign patch 1.01 is rolling out ahead of release, and in classic FromSoft form, we barely know anything about what it does. This is one of those patch note stories where I can very easily share the entire list of contents verbatim: Improved handling of playable characters Soundtrack addition and adjustments Text adjustments Balance adjustments Added character scenarios Bug fixes Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki recently told us that he and the team have been working on game balance "until the last minute," and the "handling of playable characters" and miscellaneous "balance adjustments" sound like they'd fall under that category. The text and soundtrack stuff, along with general bug fixes, is more generic still. "This update aims to improve gameplay and stability," the patch notes add. Good news, I suppose. Ahead of launch, the 1.01 patch notes have also included a small advisory for PC gamers, who will get access a few hours early. "If issues such as being unable to start the game occur on the PC version, they can sometimes be resolved by performing the following steps in Steam," FromSoftware advises. Just double check "Verify Integrity of Game Files" in your Steam library properties. Additionally, "we have confirmed that some PC configurations using the latest graphics cards may experience frame rate drops," the patch notes read. "We are currently investigating the cause." I'm now nervously eyeing my new 5080, which I assume falls under "the latest graphics cards" mentioned here, but thankfully FromSoftware has a possible solution: turn your graphics settings down. Thanks, FromSoftware. The director of Elden Ring Nightreign has been thinking about this game since Dark Souls 3, and "seeing the scope of Elden Ring" finally made it click in his mind. We've collected all the details in our Elden Ring Nightreign live coverage.

In its 3-player push, Elden Ring Nightreign boss admits FromSoftware "kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect," but is considering it for "post-launch support"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Elden Ring Nightreign is a PvE gauntlet designed for teams of three, and it really encourages matchmaking, though there is soft balancing to accommodate solo play despite the unavoidable risks of going it alone without buddies who can revive your downed corporeal form by lovingly hitting it with swords. The idea of playing with exactly one other friend, however, kind of got lost in the mix. You either drop in alone or the game gives you a team of three. But director Junya Ishizaki says FromSoftware hasn't abandoned squads of two. Speaking with IGN, Ishizaki explains the lack of dedicated duo play in Nightreign. "The simple answer is that this is simply something that was overlooked during development as just a two-player option, so we're very sorry about that," he says. "As we said before, we set out to make this a multiplayer co-op game for three players, balanced for three players, so that was the main focus and it's at the core of Nightreign," he continues. "Of course, I myself as a player understand that and often want times where I'm just playing myself, so this is something that we considered from the start. And so we did put a lot of effort into creating this experience that was playable for solo players in as much as the rules and new systems allowed." While "we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect," Ishizaki says "this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well." For the time being, the only post-launch updates confirmed for Nightreign are the contents of its DLC, which includes new characters, bosses, and map biomes. From Ishizaki's comments, it sounds like player feedback could inspire more granular updates aimed at specific gameplay experiences, including a more bespoke two-player run. So, can you play Elden Ring Nightreign solo? Yes, with some asterisks. One way that Nightreign numbs the sting of solo play is "a self-revive feature" that you can find out in the map, Ishizaki told IGN. It's a limited life raft, but anything is better than going down, dying alone, and losing a hard-earned level on respawn. Ishizaki previously said that even when playing in a team – especially, I'd imagine, if you're matchmaking with random players – you may end up taking on some enemies solo since you and your teammates "don't have to babysit one another" and can explore at your own pace. And as a solo player, rather than mathematically scaling enemies down, it seems enemy AI is adjusted so you don't get dogpiled quite so heavily. I'd expected bosses, which will corral players together, to feel pretty tanky alone, though, and it certainly feels like Nightreign is best experienced as a group. In my Elden Ring Nightreign hands-on preview, my team found more success staying together and doing some dogpiling ourselves, but that's much easier to plan with a premade team. FromSoftware warns "the same strategy won't always work" in Elden Ring Nightreign, which is bad news for me because I used the same strategy in all the Souls games.
