Ralph Macchio's Secret Talent That Played a Key Role in His 'Karate Kid' Success

Ralph Macchio showed off some tap dancing moves on Live with Kelly and Mark The Karate Kid star told hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos his tap skills could help with karate moves Macchio stars in the latest installment of the Karate Kid universe, Karate Kid: LegendsRalph Macchio is a man of many talents — acting, karate, and ... tap dancing! While the Karate Kid: Legends star opened up about his childhood on Friday's episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, such as how he worked for his father's laundromat growing up, he also revealed a unique skill that helped with his famous Karate Kid roles. "I wanted to be Gene Kelly," Macchio told hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos of taking tap dancing classes as a kid. "My mom and I used to watch the old movie musicals when I was a kid." "That's where I sort of [was] bit with the bug of wanting to perform," Macchio added, noting that the choreography skills he learned for tap could transfer to karate moves. "One, you point your toes, and the other, you flex." With a little encouragement from Ripa and Consuelos, the Cobra Kai actor got up and showed a few tap moves. Despite Macchio feeling his skills were a little rough, Ripa and Consuelos plus the audience applauded for seeing the original Karate Kid in action. After recently wrapping the sixth and final season of Netflix's Karate Kid spinoff series Cobra Kai, Macchio reprises his role of Daniel LaRusso for the latest installment of the Karate Kid franchise — Karate Kid: Legends. The film also stars Jackie Chan's Mr. Han, who appeared in the 2010 Karate Kid remake, and new protagonist Li Fong (played by Ben Wang). Macchio told PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of Karate Kid: Legends that the sixth film of the martial arts franchise "has different [and] more of like an early Jackie Chan movie style, a Hong Kong style." Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. "The fight [scenes], the cameras are really wide lenses inside the fights. There's humor laced throughout and there was always humor in the Karate Kid films, but the original films we made was kind of cinema magic, very romantic," Macchio said. "Wide, long takes, dialogue scenes that breathe. This is a quicker pace for this generation, but laced with humor, excitement, next level martial arts and Ben Wang is a rock star in the movie." "And the reason I'm in this movie is to pay that legacy forward," Macchio added. "Shedding a little piece of Miyagi forward. It's never the wrong thing to do in Daniel LaRusso's eyes and in Ralph Macchio's eyes." Karate Kid: Legends is now playing in theaters. Read the original article on People

Fortune Feimster and Jacquelyn ‘Jax' Smith are heading for divorce after 5-year marriage

Fortune Feimster and her wife of five years, Jacquelyn 'Jax' Smith, are divorcing, the former couple posted Monday on social media. 'Together, we have made the difficult decision to end our marriage,' they wrote in a statement posted on their Instagram accounts. 'We've been separated for a little bit, both of us dealing with tough health situations in our families, so it wasn't something we were ready to talk about.' They continued, 'While we are sad to see this chapter of our lives come to a close, we wish each other nothing but the best as we move forward. We've had 10 years together, and there's so much to celebrate about that and so much we will look back on fondly.' 'The Mindy Project' actor, a Groundlings veteran, requested privacy in the wake of the news. Smith was a kindergarten teacher and later joined Feimster's creative team, executive producing three of her comedy specials, 'Sweet & Salty' in 2020, 'Good Fortune' in 2022 and 'Crushing It' in 2024. The two met at a 2015 Pride event in Chicago, dated long distance for a few years, got engaged in 2018 and married in a small ceremony during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The women's families attended the wedding via Zoom. 'I want people to know me and Jax are like everybody else,' the 44-year-old comedian told People in October 2022. 'We happen to be gay but our story is not much different from other people's. ... You don't have to be gay to relate to an engagement story.' Divorce? Definitely — albeit unfortunately — relatable. Feimster credits Chelsea Handler with launching her career as a writer-performer-standup comedian. She is credited as a writer on almost 600 episodes of 'Chelsea Lately' between 2011 and 2014. 'She was putting people on TV that no one else was putting on TV,' Feimster told The Times in 2023, 'and not really caring if you fit the mold of who should be on TV. ... She was the first person who gave me the 'yes' when everyone was telling me 'no.''

Chris Pratt And Nick Offerman Mourn Jonathan Joss After Tragic Fatal Shooting

and are mourning the loss of their former "Parks & Rec" co-star , who died Sunday in a tragic shooting in San Antonio, Texas. Jonathan Joss was best known to many fans for his recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate on the hit NBC comedy, and for voicing John Redcorn on "King of the Hill" throughout the late '90s and early 2000s. According to San Antonio police, officers were dispatched to the scene of a shooting around 7 p.m. on June 1. When they arrived, they found Joss lying near the roadway. Life-saving efforts were attempted while waiting for emergency medical services, but paramedics ultimately pronounced him dead at the scene. Police later detained a suspect, identified as 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Cejam, who allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle. PEOPLE confirmed that Cejam was Joss's neighbor. He has been booked on murder charges as the investigation remains ongoing. News of Joss's sudden passing has sent shockwaves through Hollywood, especially among his former castmates. Chris Pratt, who starred as Andy Dwyer on "Parks and Recreation," shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram Stories following the announcement. 'Damn. RIP Jonathan. Always such a kind dude … Sad to see. Prayers up. Hug your loved ones,' Pratt wrote. Nick Offerman, who portrayed Ron Swanson on the beloved series, also reacted to the heartbreaking news, telling PEOPLE that the cast has been leaning on each other in the wake of the tragedy. 'The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken,' Offerman shared. 'Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.' Joss's role on "Parks and Recreation" quickly became a fan favorite. As Chief Ken Hotate, he brought both humor and heart to Pawnee's fictional Wamapoke Tribe, appearing in several standout episodes throughout the show's run. Off-screen, he was widely remembered by co-stars and colleagues for his kindness, humility, and infectious spirit. In addition to his work in comedy, Joss made a significant impact in animation. He took over the role of John Redcorn in "King of the Hill" during its third season after the original voice actor, Victor Aaron, tragically passed away in 1996. Joss's performance helped define the character for a generation of fans. The creators of "King of the Hill," Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Saladin Patterson, also shared a statement. "Jonathan Joss brought 'King of the Hill''s John Redcorn to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival," they said. "His voice will be missed at 'King of the Hill,' and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan's friends and family." As tributes continue to pour in following the tragic death of actor Jonathan Joss, the San Antonio Police Department has responded to growing online speculation regarding the nature of the fatal shooting. On Monday night, SAPD released a statement via social media refuting claims that the crime was motivated by hate. 'Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that Mr. Joss's murder was related to his sexual orientation,' the department wrote, per Fox 7. Authorities emphasized that they take such allegations seriously and confirmed that investigators have 'thoroughly reviewed all available information' related to the case. The department added that should any new evidence surface, the charges against the suspect, identified as Joss's neighbor, will be updated accordingly. The investigation remains ongoing. As friends, fans, and former castmates continue to process the loss, many are remembering Joss for the joy he brought to every set and the warmth he shared with those around him.
