Jock Zonfrillo's wife makes sad admission as she breaks silence over TV star's death
The wife of Jock Zonfrillo thought police had made a mistake when they first contacted her about the MasterChef star's death, confessing she went into shock when the news was confirmed.
That is just one of the revelations from Lauren Zonfrillo as she breaks her silence almost two years after Jock was found unresponsive in a Melbourne hotel room in May, 2023.
'I thought they had gone into the wrong room or something has gone wrong here,' Lauren said.
'I think I went into shock, and I stayed in shock for a very long time. Possibly up to a year.'

Lauren will sit down with veteran reporter Liz Hayes for a 7NEWS Spotlight major TV event, Jock and Me, which will air this Sunday on Channel Seven at 8pm.
On Monday, Hayes joined Sunrise's Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington to discuss the bombshell tell-all.
'For you, what stood out?' Shirvington asked Hayes.
'Look, I think that it was a really painful interview for Lauren to do. And I think that reliving the call, as you just saw, seeing Jock - she went and saw Jock's body - telling the kids, coming to terms with why.
'All those things were really quite confronting for her to tell me. And frankly, it was confronting to listen to it. No matter how you look at it, this is a 46-year-old man who died suddenly, and Lauren is a 45-year-old or 44-year-old woman, and two little kids.
'It was really dreadful. Played out in the public.' Lauren Zonfrillo, wife of late MasterChef star Jock Zonfrillo, spoke with Liz Hayes for a 7NEWS Spotlight special event. Credit: Seven
Barr: 'That's the key, isn't it? Yes. Every death is tragic. For every family who goes through it would be. But this was controversial. People commented in the media. She has to deal with all that. You have done this for many years. How do you go into an interview like that?'
Hayes: 'Like we all do, prepared. And I had spoken to Lauren beforehand. I had actually met Jock and Lauren beforehand. I had done a story with Jock before, gone outback with him, because he was working with Indigenous foods.
'So, I had spent some time with them. I did go to the funeral. So, I had a relationship of sorts. One of trust is ultimately how we approached it. One of understanding, that she wanted to tell this story. She's written a book.
'I think I came from a place of, 'this is her story'.'
Shirvington: 'The nature of Jock's passing. I mean, it's still a little bit of a mystery for us ... For you, how did you broach that?'
Hayes: 'Well, I said - look, it is a really difficult area, and one that she struggles with. She is of the opinion it is nobody's business, frankly, but she accepts at least the public wants an answer of sorts.
'And she does deal with that and certainly accepts that it's a tough one, because Jock was public. She doesn't see him as a public person at all now.'

'Welcome to Channel Seven ... Will you be doing more with us?' Barr asked.
'I would hope. Look, I'm a journalist. I love telling stories. If there is a story that fits for Spotlight, I would be over the moon. I will see how it goes.
'But at this point, I'm just really grateful to have this opportunity and I feel very privileged and very comfortable and supported. Thank you very much for that.'
Shirvington: 'We feel very privileged to have your skillset and experience onboard with us.'
Jock and Me: A 7NEWS Spotlight major TV event this Sunday at 8pm on Seven and 7plus.

Poh Ling Yeow breaks silence over reports she's ‘quit' MasterChef
Poh Ling Yeow has broken her silence over rumours that she had decided to quit her judging role on MasterChef. Reports emerged earlier this week claiming that the fan-favourite judge could be set to walk away from the show at the end of the season that's currently airing. An insider claimed that Channel 10 executives were hoping to get original contestant Julie Goodwin to step into Yeow's role. However, a spokesman for the star has now told Daily Mail that the reports are entirely false, which will be good news for fans of the show. 'There's no truth to the speculation. Poh is loving her time on MasterChef and feels like she's found her place.' said the spokesman. The TV insider had told New Idea that 'Julie would be a fantastic judge. Fans love her. While no one wants to see Poh leave, everyone would welcome Julie back with open arms.' The rumours of Yeow planning to leave came after shared in the last that she didn't always feel as though judging others came naturally to her, admitting that she sometimes thinks about being a contestant again. 'I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I love the chaos (of being a contestant) and there's nothing quite as exhilarating as just having days on end where you do not know what's going to happen,' she said about her time as a MasterChef competitor in 2009 and 2020. 'Even when I'm standing … at the top of the room (as a judge), I sometimes fantasise about being a contestant again,' Yeow added. 'I constantly run through the challenges that I have just delivered and think about what I would do in that situation. That's how much I miss and love it.' Poh joined the judging panel last year alongside newcomers Jean-Christophe Novelli and Sofia Levin, as well as existing judge Andy Allen. Speaking to Poh previously admitted that she's still struggling to get her head around the judging role. 'I'm still feeling so in the deep end, to be honest,' she said. 'It is so difficult. I knew it was going to be hard, but I didn't quite realise just how hard it was gonna be.' 'It is a little bit related to me feeling self-conscious, and I don't really like to use the words 'impostor syndrome,' it's more that … I feel like I don't know that much,' she said.

'Different person': MasterChef Australia star Julie Goodwin, 54, shocks fans with dramatically slimmed-down transformation in new social media video
Julie Goodwin has stunned fans with her slimmer-than-ever appearance in a new video. The 2009 MasterChef Australia winner, now 54, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a video promoting a chemical-free cleaning brand. In it, the svelte TV star appeared to have lost even more weight after she first shed a whopping 20kg almost a decade ago. Goodwin's natural grey locks peeked through her short dyed tresses, with the hairstyle accentuating her slender face and frame. The cullinary extraordinaire's slender collarbones and arms were visible beneath her black-and-white striped T-shirt. Despite her new appearance, Goodwin kept her signature glasses on, which have become synonymous with the star for more than a decade. Fans flooded the comments after failing to recognise the star cook due to her new look. "Wow, you look like a different person," one person said. "Julie, I didn't recognise you at all," another person said. Another person said had Goodwin not introduced herself in the clip, they wouldn't have ever guessed it was really her. "Had she not said, 'I am Julie Goodwin', I would not have believed my eyes! You are fabulous, as always!" they said. It comes as the celebrity is rumoured to be replacing Poh Ling Yeow, who was runner-up in Goodwin's MasterChef season, as a judge on the show. Yeow first spun the rumour mill into overdrive earlier this year after she revealed the role doesn't come naturally to her. Instead, the star, who joined judges Andy Allen, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe Novell in 2024, reminisced about "being a contestant again". "I constantly run through the challenges that I have just delivered and think about what I would do in that situation," Yeow told the From the Newsroom podcast. "That's how much I miss and love it." Despite Network Ten denying Yeow would be replaced at the end of the 2025 season, an insider last week tipped Goodwin to take her place. "Julie would be a fantastic judge. Fans love her," the source told New Idea. "While no one wants to see Poh leave, everyone would welcome Julie back with open arms." The celebrity cook herself said she "absolutely loved" guest judging the cooking competition in 2023, leaving many to believe Yeow's time was up. After her rise to fame on MasterChef, Goodwin became a household name in Australia and is adored by many for her happy-go-lucky personality. She went on to build a successful career as a cookbook author, Australian Women's Weekly columnist, and TV personality. However, in her personal life, Goodwin has faced serious struggles while grappling with her fame. She recorded a drink driving offence in 2018 and made an attempt on her life in 2020. Opening up about the dark time on the Head Game podcast in March, Goodwin said she went "right down to the bottom of the well". "I had made a decision that everybody, everybody, my colleagues, my children, my husband, my family, everybody would be better off if I just racked off and let them all be," Goodwin said on the Head Game podcast in March. The chef recently revealed she's now in a much better place. "I'm good, I really am," she told Nine Honey.

TV favourite Julie Goodwin shares her easy and delicious dinner that's a chicken pie cross a potato bake
Julie Goodwin won the first season of Masterchef in 2009. Today, Julie is making chicken and leek pie. Instead of pie crust Julie tops this pie with potato bake. The recipe was actually inspired by her sons love of both dishes and she combined the two together. Recipe below: Chicken & leek pie with potato bake top SERVES 4 PREP + COOK TIME 1 HOUR Ingredients 6-8 (800g) medium washed potatoes 1 tablespoon olive oil 600g chicken thigh fillets, cut into 3cm cubes 1 leek, white and pale green parts, sliced 5mm thick 3 cloves garlic, chopped 1 brown onion, diced 2 tablespoons plain flour 1¼ cups chicken stock 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard ½ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon ground white pepper 300ml sour cream ¾ cup grated tasty cheese fresh chives, green beans, for serving Method 1 Preheat oven to 180°C fan-forced. 2 In a medium saucepan over high heat, place the potatoes into salted water and bring to the boil. Boil for around 20 minutes or until a skewer goes easily through them. The time will depend on the size of the potatoes; don't overcook them. Drain and set aside to cool while you cook the pie filling. 3 Meanwhile, heat one teaspoon of the oil in a medium, heavy-based oven-proof frypan or shallow enamel casserole, and brown half of the chicken. Remove to a bowl and repeat with another teaspoon of oil and the remaining chicken. (It only needs to have some golden colour, not be cooked all the way through at this stage.) 4 Heat the remaining oil in the pan and sauté the leek, garlic and onion until fragrant and translucent. Return the chicken to the pan and sprinkle flour over the top. Stir to coat the chicken. 5 Add the stock, half a cup at a time, allowing the sauce to cook and thicken in between each addition. When all the stock is added, bring the sauce to a simmer and add the mustard, salt and pepper. Remove the pan from the heat. 6 Cut the cooked potatoes into 1cm slices and layer evenly over the chicken mixture. Season to taste. 7 In a small bowl, stir the sour cream until smooth, then spread over the potato. Sprinkle with the cheese. 8 Place the pan into the oven and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown and bubbling. Sprinkle with chopped chives and accompany with steamed beans, if you like.
