1 dead, 1 hospitalized after hit-and-run crash in Gainesville
One of the victims died and the other remains hospitalized.

Police said the crash happened around 11 a.m. Monday on Academy Street.
Linda Tench, 77, was pushing Phillips Adams, 61, across the street in a wheelchair in the crosswalk.
Police said that is when Janet Villanueva, 29, hit both Adams and Tench before she took off from the scene.
Paramedics rushed both victims to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Adams died at the hospital and Tench is stable as of Monday night.
Police have charged Villanueva with homicide by vehicle 1st degree, serious injury by motor vehicle, felony hit and run, failure to yield right of way to pedestrian in a crosswalk, driver to exercise due regard.

$1B plan to renovate troubled Rice Street Jail approved by Fulton County commissioners
Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved a proposal Wednesday to revitalize the troubled Rice Street Jail and create an additional center for special inmate populations. The proposal was approved 4-1-1. As Channel 2 Action News reported Monday, the proposal to renovate the existing jail and build a new special purpose facility will cost over $1 billion. The proposal was championed by Board Chairman Robb Pitts. The vote comes amid concerns about the crumbling facility. A report by the Department of Justice last year said the condition of the jail violates the civil rights of the people incarcerated within. The Fulton County Sheriff's Office agreed with the DOJ to a 'court-enforceable' consent order in January. As Channel 2 reported, an investigation into civil rights violations at the Rice Street Jail began in July 2023, in the wake of inmate LaShawn Thompson's death due to 'severe neglect' and an infestation of bed bugs in his cell, as well as multiple other incidents at the facility. Jacksonville mother of 5 missing for 2 days found alive in woods
A Jacksonville woman who disappeared Monday was found alive in the woods Wednesday after a massive rescue effort by police and firefighters. Kayla Bailey was last seen early Monday morning by one of her daughters as she left her home on Maxville Boulevard, her family told Action News Jax. Authorities said she could be in danger, sparking a search that covered the community and nearby wooded areas. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< The Sky Action News Jax drone took video of the dense forest where Bailey was found. First responders described the discovery as a relief after she had gone two days without food, water, or shelter. 'She was found in a wooded area just off a trail,' Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Michael Monts said. 'She was laying on the ground. She was alive and well when rescuers walked up on her.' RELATED: Missing mom of 5 found alive, Jacksonville police say Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department search teams spotted Bailey's feet from UTVs before reaching her. 'Search teams went out on UTVs … They were able to see her feet in the woods … and went and found her,' JFRD Chief Gary Kuehner said. 'The charges that he was arrested for are totally unrelated to the missing person's investigation,' Monts said. ‘Perfect family' of four found massacred inside New Hampshire home in apparent murder-suicide
A 'perfect' family of four was found shot to death inside their New Hampshire home in what officials believe was a murder-suicide – that left a toddler orphaned as the massacre's sole survivor. Ryan Long, 48, his wife, Emily Long, 34, and their two young children, Parker, 8, and Ryan, 6, were discovered Monday night after authorities received a chilling 911 call reporting multiple deaths inside the family's Madbury home, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office said, WBZ-TV reported.
