German Legend Thomas Muller Set For MLS Switch With Vancouver Whitecaps
The 35-year-old forward is set to pen a two-year deal with the Vancouver-based side after his trophy laden stint with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
German World Cup winner Thomas Muller is set for a switch to MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps following his departure from childhood club Bayern Munich.
The 35-year-old forward is set to pen a two-year deal with the Vancouver-based side after his trophy laden stint with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
The German superstar, who joined the FC Bayern academy as a 10-year-old in 2000, is the most capped player in club history with 750 appearances. He led the club to a record 13 Bundesliga titles, finishing with one last championship this past season. However, Bayern announced in April that they would not extend his lucrative contract for another season.
The World Cup-winner made his final appearance for his beloved Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga champions' 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup, pulling the curtains on a trophy-laden crareer with the Bavarian heavyweights.
Muller's departure from Bayern Munich, where he spent 25 years, is set to be a watershed moment towards the twilight phase of his illustrious career.
Vancouver have been one of the top MLS clubs this year and currently sit second in the Western Conference standings. Earlier this year, they reached the CONCACAF Champions Cup final.
Muller's arrival could enhance Vancouver's chances of serious contention for both the Western Conference title and the MLS Cup. Reports indicate he sought advice from former Germany teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, whose illustrious career concluded with the Chicago Fire.

Lionel Messi Out Indefinitely With "Minor Muscle Injury": Inter Miami
Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi will be sidelined indefinitely with what the MLS team described as a "minor muscle injury in his right leg" in a statement on Sunday. The 38-year-old Argentine legend suffered an upper right leg injury early in Miami's penalty-kicks home win over Mexico's Necaxa on Saturday in a Leagues Cup match. Messi went out in the 11th minute but walked off the field and into the locker room. Messi "underwent medical tests to evaluate the extent of the muscle discomfort he experienced" that forced him out of the match, Inter Miami said in its statement. "The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment." That means there is no timetable for a return by the Miami talisman, who shares the MLS season lead with 18 goals and also has nine assists in 18 matches. Jordi Alba, who netted an equalizer for Miami in second half stoppage time to set up the penalty shootout the hosts won 5-4, said Messi's early exit was "a huge sadness for the whole team." Inter Miami is 12-4 with six drawn for 42 points, fifth in the Eastern Conference and eight points adrift of league pace-setter Philadelphia but with three matches in hand. Any extended absence also would be a major blow for Miami in the Leagues Cup, which Inter won in 2023 just after Messi arrived in South Florida. Miami, which will host UNAM Pumas on Wednesday, ranks second on the MLS table to qualify for the Leagues Cup knockout stage with five points and would clinch a quarter-final berth with a victory.

Meet 12-year-old Yu Zidi: How China's swimming prodigy competed at Worlds despite age rules?
Twelve-year-old Chinese swimming sensation Yu Zidi made history at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, becoming the youngest medalist in the event's history. Yu, who began swimming at the age of 6, was part of China 's bronze medal-winning 4x200m freestyle relay team, behind Australia and the United States. Although she didn't swim in the final race, Yu earned her medal by competing in the preliminary heats, helping secure China's place in the championship final. Her contribution was crucial, and under competition rules, relay swimmers who participate in qualifiers are eligible to receive medals. Yu's achievement marks the beginning of what could be a groundbreaking career. Some experts and observers have raised questions about the mental and physical toll of exposing a 12-year-old to the pressures of elite-level training and international competition. Live Events At an age when she is still in the early stages of personal development, critics worry that such intense demands could have long-term effects on her well-being, both in and out of the pool. — WorldAquatics (@WorldAquatics) Christian Hansmann , sports director of German swimming, called her participation in Singapore 'questionable'. "Putting a girl of 12 in front of a world championship crowd of 5,000 spectators, with the high pressure from the media and the coaches, is far too early in my opinion," said Hansmann, who has children of a similar age, while talking to news agency AFP. World Aquatics executive director Brent Nowicki also acknowledged that the organisation was surprised a swimmer as young as Yu had met the qualifying standards. While Nowicki stated that World Aquatics is 'quite confident in our current safeguarding measures', he admitted that Yu's case could lead to a re-evaluation of the age eligibility rules, given the extraordinary nature of her qualification and the broader implications for athlete welfare. What's the age limit for World Championships? According to World Aquatics, the governing body for the sport, swimmers must generally be at least 14 years old to compete at senior-level events - unless they meet the stringent 'A' qualification standards, which effectively removes any hard age limit. How the young sensation Yu performed at Worlds Yu competed in four events at the World Aquatics Championships: the 200m butterfly , 200m individual medley, 400m individual medley, and the 4x200m freestyle relay. She delivered standout performances in individual events, setting a personal best of 2:06.43 in the 200m butterfly, narrowly missing the podium by just 0.31 seconds to finish fourth. In the 200m individual medley, Yu again placed fourth, clocking 2:09.21 - a mere 0.06 seconds short of bronze. Her perseverance paid off in the 4x200m freestyle relay, where, despite only swimming in the heats, she played a key role in qualifying China for the final and earned a historic bronze medal, becoming the youngest medalist in the championship's history.
