Police arrested a young man on suspicion of concealing the birth and death of a baby boy in a hilly area in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, yesterday.
KUANTAN - Police arrested a young man on suspicion of concealing the birth and death of a baby boy in a hilly area in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, yesterday.
Cameron Highlands police chief Supt Azri Ramli said police received information from the suspect's father, who found the baby's body at 10am.
"The suspect's father saw a patch of soil that had been dug up when he was going to the water tank located behind their house in the hilly location. He then stumbled on a white cloth bundle containing the dead baby and called police," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He said the 19-year-old suspect, who works as a cleaner at a homestay, admitted to burying the remains of the two-day-old baby born to his 21-year-old stepsister.
"Following that, police arrested the man at 5.30 pm at his home in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan yesterday and seized tools such as hoes and shovels used to dig the ground to bury the baby,' he said.
The man has been remanded for four days starting today to assist in investigations under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth and death of a baby. - BERNAMA

Police also confiscated drug processing tools, RM3,000 in cash, SGD193 (approximately RM617.60), and jewellery worth over RM34,000, bringing the total seizure value to RM4,939,778.60. Kumar explained that the syndicate mixed drugs with coffee powder and flavourings before sealing them in commercial-style drink sachets to evade detection. Each sachet was sold for around RM250, with distribution facilitated through online platforms and local networks. Authorities are searching for a 35-year-old Sarawakian man, Terrence Ki Kek Ding, to assist in investigations. The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 6(3) of the Immigration Act. The Vietnamese suspect has been remanded until August 8. – Bernama

JPJ to audit bus operator involved in UPM crash
KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will carry out a Safety Inspection and Audit on the company whose bus was involved in an accident while transporting a kindergarten group along Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang recently. Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said JPJ received a report on the incident on Saturday (Aug 2) and has handed it over to the police for further investigation. "JPJ will conduct an audit and inspection of the bus operator and take further action once the audit report is completed,' he told Bernama on Sunday (Aug 3). On Saturday, Serdang district police chief ACP Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the incident occurred at around 12.18 pm and involved a bus carrying five teachers and 30 kindergarten children on an outing. Dashcam footage that went viral on social media showed the bus going out of control before veering off the road and crashing into a tree. Three children and one teacher sustained head injuries and were treated as outpatients at Serdang Hospital, while the bus driver was detained to assist in investigations under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987. In a statement issued on Sunday, Muhamad Farid said the accident is believed to have been caused by the bus driver falling into a microsleep due to insufficient rest. He said the 44-year-old male driver has been remanded for two days starting today to assist in the investigations. Preliminary investigations also found that the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.
