Conan Gray's 'This Song' Lyrics Are an Open Letter Fueled by Yearning
The Conan Gray-shaped hole in your heart is about to be filled, because the singer-songwriter is officially back with the latest single off his upcoming album, 'This Song.'
Along with heartfelt lyrics that openly yearn for romance, the track is married with whimsical string-heavy production reminiscent of the Goo Goo Dolls' 'Iris'... we can hear those TikTok mashups already. The song brings Conan back to his vulnerable bedroom pop songwriting roots, which is fitting since he wrote most of his fourth studio album, Wishbone, from that very place.
Wishbone is set to be released on August 29, and Conan revealed that he had 'secretly' stumbled upon the writing process almost two years ago.
'Over the past two years, I've been secretly writing songs. After shows in the basements of the venues, in the sheets of my hotel beds, in narrow gaps between tours— I'd come back home and write all the things I felt nobody wanted to hear. Maybe even the things I didn't want people to hear,' Conan wrote on Instagram. 'It felt like the music was reminding me who I am, at an experimental time in my twenties where 'who I am' had no definition at all.'
He continued, 'I played the songs to the very first person I'd ever made music with, Dan Nigro, and I quietly began to record. I didn't know why I was recording, I just was. I didn't know what story I was telling, I was just living in it. Slowly I started to see myself in full picture. The slivers of myself I'd always been, but never faced. The songs I'd always been writing, but never singing. Before I knew it I was surrounded by an album.'
That being said! Now seems like a good time to learn the lyrics of 'This Song' as Conan is hitting a few music festivals later this year.
Lyrics by Conan Gray
[Verse 1]
Yeah, I know that I love you
And I have a feeling that you love me back
I'm sat in my bedroom
And I hear your heart like a train on the tracks
Your eyes are like heaven
Your voice is like rain
Eleven elevens, they all hear your name
Too shy to tell you the words on my mind
I hope you can see if you read through these linesGet in, it's time to yearn (aka... a likely thing to do during a Conan song). In the first verse, he confesses his love for his subject with pure poetry. When he feels those emotions could potentially be reciprocated, he seemingly calls back to Train's 'Drops of Jupiter': 'She acts like summer / and walks like rain.'
Conan shares that he wishes for this person every time the clock turns 11:11 — it's also a nod to another Wishbone track of the same name.[Chorus]
That I wrote this song about you
A song that I wish you knew
A song that I tried to sing
But now I'll say it straight
I wrote this song about youIn case the subject needed clarity on whether this song was about them... now they know.
[Verse 2]
I drive through the suburbs
And you're playing all of your favorite songs
You joke about your mother
She can't help but cry when she hears Elton John
You're singing obnoxious
I'm laughing like spring
Your brown racer jacket
My hands through the sleeves
The smell of your perfume
Is all over me
I can't wash it off so it's easy to see
The second verse is truly what love is all about... it's the little things. Singing along to Elton John songs, wearing each other's clothes, and embracing the lingering scent of each other's fragrances.
Also, there could be a cute lil Easter egg that potentially ties back to Conan's bestie, Olivia Rodrigo, here with 'You're singing obnoxious' and her 'Deja Vu' lyrics: 'Watching re-runs of Glee / Being annoying.'
[Chorus][Bridge]
You know that I love you
Is it dumb believing you might love me too?
Yeah
[Outro]
(I wrote this song about you)
(I wrote this song about you)
You know that I love you

Fact Check: Taylor Swift didn't activate 'Eras Tour' wristbands to inform fans about regaining rights to her music
Claim: Taylor Swift activated wristbands from her "Eras Tour" as a way to signal her fans that she'd regained control of her original recordings. Rating: In May 2025, superstar recording artist Taylor Swift announced she'd regained ownership of her first six albums following a public battle with investor Scooter Braun. In 2019, Braun bought the label that released Swift's first six albums, Big Machine Records. This prompted the artist to begin rerecording her early albums as a way to regain control of her music. Braun subsequently sold Swift's original recordings to a capital investment firm and she had been trying to reacquire them since. Excited fans celebrated Swift's victory, which included many users on TikTok sharing videos (archived, archived, archived) of a special bracelet they'd taken home from Swift's "Eras Tour" — a career-encompassing stadium tour in which Swift performed songs from all of her "eras" — seemingly lighting up in celebration. One TikTok video (archived) even called the allegedly glowing bracelet a "Swifty bat signal," suggesting Swift was using the device as a mode of communication with her fans. Some users seemed to interpret the claim as fact, thinking Swift remotely activated the bracelets as a way to fill them in on the good news. @saronthings I mean … how special is that, what a lovely way for #taylorswift to include her fans it this well earned moment. #popculture #erastour #swiftie #swifttok ♬ Cruel Summer — Taylor Swift However, there is no evidence that Taylor Swift remotely activated the "Eras Tour" bracelets to celebrate the acquisition of her master recordings. The claim is false. As one TikTok video (archived) pointed out, the bracelets can be activated by removing a plastic tab on the side of the device and deactivated by replacing it. Remote activation of the bracelets requires proximity to a console that controls smart lights. Snopes reached out to Swift's management and the creators of the device, a company called PixMob, for comment. The wristbands are meant to sync with other production effects during a show, providing something of a light show using the audience members, as shown below. (Getty Images) The PixMob website detailing its contribution to the "Eras Tour" reads, "When fans enter each venue … they are handed a PixMob LED wristband to become part of the show … the light up wristbands are controlled live with PixMob wireless DMX technology over infrared light." DMX technology is short for Digital Multiplex, which is "the standard digital communication protocol that is used to remotely control intelligent lighting fixtures," according to stage lighting company Stage Electrics. Typically this is controlled from a console plugged directly into lighting equipment, but PixMob's use of infrared wireless technology is what allows it to control the lighting effects of its wristbands. However, the range of infrared technology is limited, which is why it works within a stadium during the performance but would not be able to be controlled as remotely as the claims assert. Put simply, think of it as the remote control of a television being out of range. PixMob created similar experiences for artists including Coldplay, Shakira and Bad Bunny as well as sporting events such as the 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 Super Bowl. Woman Picks Up Dog From Daycare, Then Learns Where They Put Him All Day
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The reason a dog was deemed a "father" at doggy daycare left the owner pleasantly surprised. Pet parent TJ, known on TikTok as @tj_cosplays, picked up their dog named Cubby from daycare one day and left with new information about their canine. Much to her surprise, the doggy daycare volunteered Cubby to be a stand-in "father" at the facility. Not that TJ doesn't believe Cubby could be a great father. She knows he's a sweet and gentle dog, but she's not used to hearing about his praise around other dogs, especially involving puppies. "He gets along well with dogs at daycare, but is leash reactive," TJ told Newsweek via TikTok. "I've never seen him around puppies before, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear he does well with them." In his new role at the daycare, workers place Cubby in the puppy group. He helps teach them to be a dog. TJ explained in a May 20 TikTok video (@tj_cosplays) that the daycare praised Cubby's "good temperament," earning him the title of "uncle" in the mom-and-pop group. While with the pups, Cubby shows them how to dog. He'll correct the puppies for any unwanted behavior or if they're being too hyper when needed. Surprised by this new job for Cubby, TJ said she jokingly responded to the daycare: "You mean MY dog?" She said: "Everyone keeps saying he's a good boy, but when I dropped him off that weekend, he was literally trying to drag me by my clothes back with him." Viewer Reactions As of Tuesday, the TikTok video reached over 4.6 million views and 823,200 likes. People praised Cubby for his promotion at the daycare, whether he wanted the new position or not. "When you accidentally get too important at work," commented a viewer, while a second added: "He's not going to daycare he's going to work." A third person pointed out: "The awkward rolling around when mom is bragging about you." Several doggy daycare employees chimed in: "As someone who manages a daycare, y'all should take that as high praise. It takes a very specific dog to be able to be trusted to do that." Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver offer differing takes on son's nude scene on ‘The White Lotus'
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have shared their initial reactions to watching their son Patrick Schwarzenegger strip down on-camera for ' The White Lotus,' revealing starkly different perspectives. 'I couldn't believe (it). I said to myself, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there.' And all of a sudden, I see the weenie,' the former California governor candidly recalled during a joint appearance with his son on Variety's video series 'Actors on Actors,' released Tuesday, June 3. 'What is going on here? This is crazy.' Patrick's full-frontal nude scene was part of his role as Saxon Ratliff on the HBO show's third season. While his father emphasized his initial shock at the scene, which he watched during an advance screening ahead of its premiere, his mother shared during separate interviews that she was unfazed. "People are like, 'Oh my God, you saw!' (and) I'm like, 'I gave birth to him,'" Shriver said during a Tuesday appearance on 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show.' "I've seen him naked since he was a baby." The former journalist, who was married to Arnold for 25 years, previously told People Magazine that she didn't even notice the nudity when she first watched the episode. "I'm just looking at him and his craft really," she said Tuesday, noting she only realized after her other children —Patrick's siblings Kathernine, Christina and Christopher — pointed it out. Though Arnold was appalled at first, he said that he quickly came to the same conclusion as his ex-wife, and acknowledged that his son was simply following in his own footsteps. 'I said to myself, 'Well, Arnold, hello. You did the same thing in 'Conan' and 'Terminator,' so don't complain about it,'' he said, referring to his own nude scenes. By the time Patrick's racy scene on 'The White Lotus' aired, Arnold had made his peace with it and even trolled him on social media, joking that 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' During the father-son duo's recent 'Actors on Actors' interview, Arnold went on to speak with his son about nepotism and privilege within the industry, and how one rises above that. 'If you show you have the substance, you can get rid of the whole idea of nepotism,' Arnold said, directly addressing his son. 'You have never asked me to call a studio or to call an agent. You never asked me for advice when it comes to acting itself. You're a rare breed.' Shriver expressed a similar sense of pride toward her son. "I think people, when they see somebody in a show like that, they don't realize how much leads up to that moment,' she said. 'They don't realize how hard he's worked or how many roles he hasn't gotten."
