Eataly Italian marketplace sets opening date in Aventura

Miami Herald19-05-2025

One of the most anticipated dining experiences of 2025 finally has an opening date.
Eataly, the international Italian marketplace, will open at the Aventura Mall at 3 p.m. June 12.
Created by Oscar Farinetti in 2007 in Torino, Italy, the 30,000-square-foot space at the mall will include two sit-down restaurants, a cafè with several quick service counters, a retail section, a wine store and a cooking school.
Tommaso Brusò, CEO of Eataly North America, told the Miami Herald last year that Eataly, which has 14 locations in North America and more than 50 worldwide, aims to 'replicate what Italy is today. '
'So when you come to visit Eataly, you're supposed to have the same experience that you have when you go to Italy physically, without the flying or packing your luggage,' he said. 'We are an ambassador for the Italian lifestyle.'
After its opening, Eataly Aventura will host 10 days of free programming for shoppers, including producer showcases, hands-on workshops and classes, wine tastings and more.
The brand plans to open a second South Florida Eataly location at CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach later this year.
Where to eat
La Pizza & La Pasta, which has almost 300 seats, features a menu highlighting two of Italy's best exports. The pizza is Neapolitan-style, while the pasta dishes focus on regional recipes made with artisanal pasta.
The second sit-down restaurant is Il Pastaio (meaning 'pasta maker'), where you can also order fresh pasta as well as watch chefs create different shapes and variations daily. This spot seats almost 90 near the live production space.
You can also grab a quick bite or coffee at one of the several to-go counters at Eataly. Here's what you can get at each:
Lavazza: Coffee drinks
La Pasticceria: A pastry counter with cakes, croissants and baked goods
Il Gelato: Gelato and sorbetto
Pizza alla Pala: Roman-style pizza
Panini: Sandwiches on focaccia, panini and farcita
Where to shop
The Market will feature a variety of Italian staples: extra virgin olive oils, canned tomatoes, sauces, pastas, sweets, salumi and formaggi, panettoni and gift boxes. There are also produce, meats and grab-and-go meals for sale.
The wine shop highlights Italian wines from 20 different regions, with a temperature-controlled Riserva room housing rare wines and spirits.

M&S online shopping service to return in days after cyber attack shut down

Online shopping is set to return to Marks and Spencer (M&S) after being shut down more than a month ago following a cyber attack. M&S was hit by a major cyber attack back in April with hackers gaining access to the company's IT systems through a third party after 'human error'. Customer personal data, which could have included names, email addresses, postal addresses and dates of birth, was also taken by hackers. As a result of the cyber attack, M&S was forced to pause all online and app orders and temporarily lay off staff at its Castle Donington clothing and homewares logistics centre. However, M&S shoppers received good news on Tuesday (June 10) morning, with the retailer revealing it will be bringing back online shopping "this week". In a post on social media, M&S said: "We are bringing back online shopping this week. Panama Canal boss says MSC ports deal threatens neutrality, FT reports

(Reuters) -The sale of two ports near the Panama Canal to a global consortium led by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) threatens the canal's principle of neutrality, the canal's head Ricaurte Vasquez told the Financial Times. "There is a potential risk of capacity concentration if the deal comes the way it is structured as we understand right now,' Vasquez told the FT in a report published on Tuesday. "If there is a significant level of concentration on terminal operators belonging to an integrated or one single shipping company, it will be at the expense of Panama's competitiveness in the market and inconsistent with neutrality." MSC is one of the world's top container shipping groups. MSC and the Panama Canal Authority did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. CK Hutchison confirmed last month that MSC, run by the family of Italian billionaire Gianluigi Aponte, was the main investor in a group seeking to buy 43 ports, including the two ports in Panama, for $22.8 billion. The clarification follows weeks of scrutiny and criticism in China over CK Hutchison's plan to sell the ports to a consortium, which was previously led by U.S. investment firm BlackRock. BlackRock remains part of the group. The proposed sale has also drawn the attention of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his desire to reduce Chinese influence around the Panama Canal and termed the deal a "reclaiming" of the waterway after it was first announced. In April, China's top market regulator said it was paying close attention to CK Hutchison's planned sale and that parties to the deal should not try to avoid an antitrust review. Vasquez added that the canal should use the ports deal as an opportunity to become a terminal operator itself by reactivating a project to build a terminal in the Port of Corozal at the Pacific end of the canal, according to the FT.
