Google unveils safety charter for India's AI-led transformation
The strategic blueprint operates through three foundational pillars-- keeping end users safe from online frauds and scams; strengthening cybersecurity for government and enterprise infrastructure; and building AI responsibly.
Under its Digikavach program, Google has reached over 177 million Indians with AI-powered protections and awareness initiatives to combat financial fraud.
AI integration across its platforms is transforming threat detection--Search now identifies 20x more scam-related pages; impersonation attacks on customer service and government sites have dropped by over 80 per cent and 70 per cent, respectively.
Google Messages blocks over 500 million scam texts monthly and has issued more than 2.5 billion suspicious link warnings via on-device AI.
Since its October 2024 pilot in India, Google Play Protect has blocked nearly 6 crore high-risk app installation attempts across 13 million devices.
Google Pay has issued 4.1 crore scam transaction alerts.
Gmail continues to protect over 2.5 billion inboxes globally, automatically blocking more than 99.9 per cent of spam, phishing, and malware.
By combining AI-powered threat detection across platforms with cross-sector intelligence sharing and proactive policy measures, Google has already demonstrated significant impact, including Google Pay averting Rs 13,000 crore in financial fraud during 2024.
Google is enhancing cybersecurity through an AI-first, secure-by-design approach focused on early threat detection and intelligence sharing.
The Google Cloud M-Trends report offers insights into key attack trends, while Project Zero, in collaboration with DeepMind, marked a global first--using AI to discover previously unknown memory-safety flaws in widely used software like SQLite.
To strengthen the broader ecosystem, Google.org has committed an additional USD 5 million to The Asia Foundation, expanding the APAC Cybersecurity Fund to support 10+ new cyber-clinics, including partnerships with Indian universities to train MSMEs and students. In parallel, Google announced a collaboration with IIT-Madras in advancing Post-Quantum Cryptography, developing next-gen anonymous tokens that enable secure, privacy-first digital interactions for the future.

'The rise in interest around agentic AI signals that we are at the beginning of a transformation, one where job seekers are not just responding to change but leading it.'Additionally, 56% of mid-career professionals emphasised training and skill enhancement compared to just 41% of their younger counterparts for them to adapt to changing workflows. Notably, nearly one-third of workers expressed concern about job security if they couldn't keep up with technological leaders had anticipated greater adoption of AI agents alongside a greater 'co-mingling' between humans and machines.

MEA Secy Kumaran to visit Colombia, Peru to boost bilateral ties
New Delhi [India], August 19 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs' Secretary (East) P Kumaran will visit Colombia and Peru from August 21 to 26, 2025 to review various elements of growing bilateral relations.A MEA release said that during the visit, Secretary (East) is slated to meet with ministers and senior officials in the governments of Colombia and Peru and discuss areas of mutual interest, including in trade and commerce, mining, energy, health and pharmaceuticals, defence, infrastructure, cooperation in IT and digital sectors, apart from topics of mutual interest in the bilateral, regional and multilateral context. He would also be interacting with representatives of the business community and think release said that Colombia and Peru are India's important partners in the South American region with whom India has growing trade relations, with scope for diversification in trade, commerce and investment, including cooperation in energy, critical minerals and rare enjoys warm and friendly relations with both Colombia and Peru. The relationships are based on shared democratic values and growing cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, pharmaceuticals, IT, and capacity-building. Govt approves ₹62,000 crore deal to buy 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets
In a major boost for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India in defence project, India on Tuesday cleared the project for buying 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. The final approval for the acquisition of 97 LCA Mark 1A fighters was given by a high-level meeting today and will pave the way for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to produce the aircraft, defence sources told ANI. This will be the second order for the LCA Mark 1A fighters, as the government has already placed orders for 83 aircraft a few years ago for around Rs 48,000 crore. The programme will help the IAF to replace its fleet of MiG- 21s, which are finally being phased out by the government in next few weeks, they said. The indigenous fighter aircraft programme, fully backed by Defence Ministry and Air Headquarters is set to be a big boost for promoting indigenisation as well as give major business to the small and medium enterprises engaged in defence business across the country, they said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pushing for the revival of the HAL, which has bagged orders for building all types of indigenous fighter aircraft, helicopters, along with the engines for them under his government. The Prime Minister had also undertaken a sortie in the trainer variant of the indigenous fighter, which was first-ever sortie by the Prime Minister of India in any combat aircraft. The plan to acquire 97 more LCA Mark 1A fighter jets was also announced first by the then Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on foreign soil in Spain when he told ANI about the mega plans to boost the indigenous fighter aircraft orders. The LCA Mark 1A plane has more advanced avionics and radars than the initial 40 LCAs being supplied to the Air Force. The indigenous content in the new LCA Mark1As is going to be more than 65 per cent. The programme has been the harbinger of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives of the nation. More importantly, it is a flag bearer of India's self-reliance in the aerospace sector. The HAL is also set to bag deals for buying over 200 LCA Mark 2s and a similar number of fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft.
