Genius microwave cleaning hack takes just 5 minutes and saves hours of scrubbing
Microwaves are an everyday appliance for many Brits but often are left dirty and food stained after a hectic time in the kitchen.
Food stains, stubborn grease and spillages all seem to be adding to the list of endless chores that already exist. Endless scrubbing and bleach and chemicals are usually people's best choice when facing this monster head on but cleaning experts shared a little-known solution that many do not know about.
It takes just five minutes and the item used is already sat in your kitchen so life could not get easier. Using a dishwasher tablet dissolved in hot water creates a powerful steam that combats grime and no harsh scrubbing is needed.
A Lottomart spokesperson said: "This method is absolutely game-changing for microwave cleaning. The dishwasher tablet is specifically formulated to break down grease and food residue, so when you create steam with it, you're essentially giving your microwave a deep clean from the inside out."
To start, dissolve one dishwasher tablet in a microwave-safe mug or cup that is filled with hot water. Stir it until the tablet is fully dissolved in the water - this is the cleaning solution. Two jobs can be done at once, as while the tablet dissolves, take out the turntable and wipe it down and the inside of the microwave.
Then put the mug/cup in the microwave and turn it on to medium power for about 4-5 minutes. Steam should build up inside because the solution is heating up which is fine as the steam is getting to work.
After the timer finishes, leave it in there and sitting for another 2-3 minutes, whilst the door is still closed. This allows for the solution to tackle more stubborn areas.
Lastly, remove the mug (wearing gloves) and use a damp sponge or cloth to wipe down the interior of the microwave. Any grime should come out with ease.
Why this method is so great is because dishwasher tablets already have strong degreasing agents to penetrate hard food residue. When it is dissolved and heated, the cleaning compounds create steam to break down and soften microwave stains and splatters that you usually would try to get rid of using excessive scrubbing.
This job is reduced from a 20-30 minute job of hard scrubbing to a 5 minute quick and easy chore. Lottomart experts do highlight safety when doing this job: "Always wear gloves when handling the hot cleaning solution, and make sure to wipe down all surfaces thoroughly with clean water afterwards. You want to remove any cleaning residue before using your microwave for food."
The cleaning hack is generally safe and useful but make sure to be aware and always follow these instructions. Also, use plain and unscented dishwasher tablets - avoid using ones that contain bleach or fragrances that are not safe for food." To avoid overheating don't allow the solution to boil dry, and always set the microwave to medium power settings.
If you are still hesitant about this hack, and don't want to use dishwasher tablets then you can steam white vinegar and lemon juice together, or baking soda mixed with water. These are just as effective and are food-safe options that use the same steam-cleaning method.
The best part about this hack is how simple it is, you don't have to be bogged down with scrubbing harshly on burnt pieces of food stuck on the sides or scraping away at splatters. This five minute steaming hack and wiping it down will make your microwave back to looking and being pristine clean.

A third (33 per cent) avoid tasks because they're 'easily distracted', with a further 47 per cent doing so because they're 'boring'. Commissioned by which offers deals on holidays, flights, and hotels, the poll, of 2,000 adults, found 23 per cent have resorted to taking annual leave in order to get on top of all the tasks they've been avoiding. But procrastination isn't always problematic - 39 per cent actively prefer to leave things until late on, with 14 per cent of the opinion they get better results when they do so. Psychologist Emma Kenny, who has teamed-up with the travel operator, believes procrastination can improve patience and also helps people feel more grateful. She said: "Procrastination isn't simply about laziness, it's often a coping mechanism for feeling overwhelmed. 'But while chronic procrastination can increase stress, the 14 per cent who report better results under pressure may actually be leveraging their natural work rhythms. 'The key is distinguishing between productive delay and avoidance that creates genuine problems." Of those who ever procrastinate - which is 89 per cent of adults - the study found 50 per cent do so more with personal tasks and 11 per cent do so more with work-related tasks. However, 30 per cent avoid certain jobs in both walks of life - at work and at home. Other tasks they regularly put off include responding to emails, updating their CV, and even going to sleep. Many also stall on replying to personal messages like texts and WhatsApps, going to the gym or exercising, and backing up devices or updating software. Emma Kenny added: 'Procrastination is a natural, human trait and whilst it can make people feel guilty, it can also give us space to think clearly about choosing the right moment and to process the idea and holiday plans properly. 'When you change the narrative from 'I still haven't done it' to 'I just found an incredible last-minute deal', procrastination becomes a passport to adventure.' It also emerged 83 per cent have procrastination tactics they actively employ - including starting jobs at a 'nice round number' like 3pm or 4pm (27 per cent). More than a fifth (22 per cent) will hold off doing anything until it's 'absolutely essential' a task needs to be completed. And 25 per cent will do something else which doesn't need doing - like intensely researching something which could wait - to avoid sitting down to tackle a task. The research, carried out through OnePoll, found 27 per cent make a mindful and conscious decision to procrastinate so they can enjoy the feeling of anticipation for as long as possible. Zoe Fidler, spokesperson for said: 'It's clear to see that us Brits are a procrasti-nation. 'Some people even prefer it, saying putting things off helps to build excitement, anticipation, and the threat of a deadline getting tasks done faster. 'And when it comes to holidays in particular it's never too late to book one - in fact, one in five of our customers book within just 72 hours of departure.'

Third of Brits would end date over a condiment clash as Aldi releases innovative new sauce
Nearly a third of Brits admit they would end a date over a condiment clash, new research reveals. Exactly 32% made the culinary admission, with only half (54%) believing a relationship can survive differing sauce loyalties The country is fiercely divided over sauce habits, with two-fifths (40%) saying sauce preferences reveal something about a person's personality. According to research from Aldi, the nation is also home to a significant clique of enthusiastic sauce mixologists. Seven in ten enjoy mixing sauces, with ketchup and mayo the go-to pairing for 43%. Three in five (59%) go a step further, admitting to whipping up their own custom blends at home – with almost a quarter (24%) doing so 'regularly'. In light of the research, this summer, Aldi is giving the nation the culinary contraption they never knew they needed: a limited-edition triple-sauce bottle that squeezes ketchup, mayo and mustard at the same time for one perfect, triple-hit mouthful. The three-in-one bottle, named The Mighty Trio, launches as new research reveals just how passionate – and opinionated - Brits are about their condiments. Unsurprisingly, almost three quarters (72%) of Brits would therefore be eager to try Aldi's new invention serving all three sauces at once. But not everyone's mixing it up. A quarter prefer to keep sauces separate. 15% say ketchup on pasta should be outlawed altogether – just one of the many 'sauce crimes' Brits have witnessed. Top culinary offences include drizzling sauce on ice cream (14%), a roast dinner (12%), fruit (11%) and even cereal (10%). But the judgement doesn't stop at what you pair your sauce with. Three in five Brits are dippers, and over two in five (45%) admit to secretly judging how others apply sauce – whether it's the technique, the quantity, or the 'on top' approach rather than dipping. Perhaps this explains why we don't trust others to sauce our food – with 72% saying they feel anxious when someone else does it for them. Almost one in three (32%) have even skipped asking for a sauce at a restaurant to avoid judgement, and 42% of Brits have confessed to packing their own bottles when travelling or dining out. But the ultimate dealbreaker this summer? 84% of Brits would consider walking out of a BBQ with no ketchup. For those prepping the perfect Bank Holiday gathering, Aldi's range of condiments, including Bramwells Tomato Ketchup (89p, 550g), Bramwells Squeezy Real Mayonnaise (95p, 500ml) and Bramwells American Style Mustard (99p, 290g), means no one will be left disappointed. Aldi UK's Julie Ashfield said: 'It's clear Brits love their condiments, with a huge number of sauce mixologists whipping up their own concoctions at home. 'The Mighty Trio is Aldi's answer to the BBQ juggling act, giving you all three classic condiments in one easy squeeze. It's fun, practical and the ultimate hack for anyone who likes their burgers, hot dogs or chips with a little bit of everything!' To enter the competition to win a trio sauce bottle, shoppers should email mightytrio@ with their full name before 28 th August 2025.
