
Vox Cinemas hosts UAE premiere of ‘Restart' ahead of regional release
Vox Cinemas, the Middle East's cinema exhibitor, rolled out the red carpet for the UAE premiere of Restart last evening at its flagship location in Mall of the Emirates. The star-studded event welcomed a packed audience of more than 500 guests, including prominent media figures and social media influencers, and featured appearances by the film's lead actors Tamer Hosny, Bassem Samra and Mohamed Tharwat, along with director Sara Wafiq.
The premiere marked a major cultural moment ahead of the film's official release on May 29 across Vox Cinemas in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt and Lebanon. Produced by Tamer Hosny's TH Production and directed by Sara Wafiq, Restart tells the story of Mohamed, a humble phone technician played by Hosny, and his fiancée Afaf, portrayed by Hana El Zahed, who dreams of becoming a social media star. As they chase fame with help from their families and a notorious agent known as 'the Joker,' the couple quickly finds themselves drifting from their core values. The film explores themes of love, ambition and the price of success, with Mohamed ultimately facing the challenge of mending broken bonds and winning back the woman he loves.

There's a super cute Smurfs takeover happening at Reem Mall this July
Smurfs fans, it's time to make your way to Reem Mall, where things are about to turn very blue – in the best possible way. From Thursday July 17 to Wednesday July 30, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy and Hefty are setting up shop in the capital and bringing a whole lot of fun with them. This colourful takeover is happening at Reem Mall's Ground Floor Main Atrium, where families can walk into the Smurf forest for free daily shows and plenty of photo ops. The little ones can also spend time at the themed activity and game zone that can be accessed if you've got a Dhs250 receipt from shopping at the mall. Expect plenty of laughs as the little blue crew battle it out in a Smurf-style science fair to see who's got the best invention. The live stage show lasts 25 minutes and will run three times a day at 2.30pm, 4.30pm and 7.30pm. What's more, a lucky few can nab a photo during the meet-and-greet with Papa Smurf and Smurfette. The secret, of course, is to come early. Once the show's over, there's still loads to explore. Kids can pop into Papa Smurf's house, greet Azrael the cat and take part in a whole forest's worth of fun. There's also an activity area to check out. An AR magic mirror that'll transform you into a Smurf, puzzles to solve, crafty corners to get stuck into, mirror mazes to navigate and even gardening games where little ones can learn about shapes while they dig and play. Access to the activity zone is available daily from 2pm to 10pm with a Reem Mall receipt of Dhs250. As for the icing on this very blue cake, if you've visited the activity zone with a valid Reem Mall receipt, you'll stand a chance to win complimentary VOX Cinemas tickets to watch Smurfs at the mall. Vox Cinemas launches Jurassic Café Takeover to celebrate ‘Jurassic World Rebirth'
'Jurassic World Rebirth' will be released regionally on July 3. In celebration of Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest instalment in the franchise arriving in cinemas this summer, Vox Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates has launched a limited-time Jurassic Café takeover designed to captivate fans of all ages. Open daily until midnight, the Theatre Café has been transformed into a fully immersive prehistoric adventure, complete with themed menus, interactive exhibits, and striking photo opportunities that pay homage to the film's most iconic moments. At the centre of the experience is the Dino Menu, featuring a range of boldly crafted dishes inspired by the world of Jurassic World. Guests can savour the T-Rex Burger, with double Cajun-spiced beef patties, molten lava cheese, and meteor sauce in a charcoal-ash bun, or take on the Raptor Bite Burger, layered with crispy spiced chicken and aged bone cheese. Other highlights include the Queltz Dog, available in turkey, beef, or plant-based options with relic relish and ancient grain buns, and the Herbivore Stack, a plant-based creation of fried portobello mushrooms with truffle-garlic aioli. For dessert, diners can crack open the Dino Egg Smash, a chocolate egg hiding a sweet prehistoric surprise, and sip themed beverages like the Amber DNA Elixir, a golden passionfruit mojito fizz, or the vibrant T-Rex Blood, a dragon fruit and hibiscus brew with edible swirling claws. The café's atmosphere completes the adventure, transporting visitors to Isla Nublar with lush jungle backdrops, dino-footprint pathways, and soundtracks from the film. Interactive installations include the Roar-o-metre, where guests can compete to unleash the loudest dinosaur roar, and the DNA Station, which lets aspiring scientists create their own custom dinosaur species. To mark the premiere and release weekend, live musicians including a violinist and bassist will perform the legendary Jurassic Park theme, adding to the excitement as audiences prepare for the big-screen experience. Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, will be released regionally on July 3. Vox Cinemas to screen ‘Thank You For Banking With Us' in Qatar
The film is a joint German-Palestinian production that delves into themes of female empowerment and familial struggle. Vox Cinemas in Qatar will organise three screenings of Palestinian filmmaker Laila Abbas's first feature film, Thank You For Banking With Us, from June 26 to 28 at 7 pm. The drama explores themes of female empowerment through the story of sisters Mariam and Noura, who, after their father's death, devise a plan to secure a large sum of money he left behind. Their scheme aims to outmanoeuvre their brother, who is legally entitled to half of the inheritance. Laila Abbas described the film as a narrative about the strength of womanhood and the importance of emotional and physical unity among women. 'It's a story about sisters who, having endured their own tragedies and heartbreaks, come together to become stronger,' she said. Thank You for Banking With Us! is a joint German-Palestinian production, written, directed and produced by Abbas through her Ramallah-based company Young Oak Productions. Co-produced by Hanna Atallah of Palestine Cinema Days and Roshanak Behesht Nedjad of Berlin's In Good Company Films, the film is being handled for worldwide sales and distribution by MAD World. MAD Solutions and Lagoonie Film Production, the Cairo and Riyadh-based production entity, have also teamed up to co-produce Thank You for Banking With Us! Thank You for Banking With Us! has received support thus far from the El Gouna Film Festival in 2018 through four $10,000 grants from ART, Cedars Productions, O Three Productions and Metafora respectively. Moreover, it won the In-Development Award from the CineGouna Platform and was supported by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture as well as the Doha Film Institute's 2023 edition of the Qumra Initiative.
