Horrifying moment electric car suddenly bursts into flames on driveway - starting raging blaze that spread to van and £550,000 family home
The shocking images show a fireball tearing through vehicles outside the £550,000 house in Chandler's Ford, Hampshire, in the early hours of this morning.
The car was parked on the driveway and was charging overnight when it caught fire at around 5am.
Photographs taken after the blaze reveal the shocking extent of the damage, including the wreckage of three vehicles - one of which is a van. The front of the house was also badly burned.
Aside from the van, all the vehicles on the drive have been reduced to charred remains - but it is unclear what type of vehicles they are.
The home on a quiet road belongs to a young family, according to neighbours.
Thankfully, the family were able to get out safely and no casualties have been reported.
One neighbour said: 'I was probably the last to hear about it on the block. The fire was going when I got up, and the house was beginning to catch.

'Flames were coming out the door and window. I was frightened for the young family.'
A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said crews from three different fire stations attended the scene.
They said: 'Firefighters tackled a fire involving a number of vehicles which spread to a house on Charlecote Drive in Chandler's Ford this morning.
'Crews from Eastleigh, Redbridge and St Mary's were alerted shortly before 5am when multiple 999 calls were made into the control room reporting the blaze.
'Wearing breathing apparatus firefighters entered the property to extinguish the fire using hose reels and jets.
'Fortunately, there were no casualties involved.
'The electricity, gas and water supply to the building was isolated before the incident was handed over to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary officers.'
It's not the first time an electric vehicle has caught fire in the middle of the night.
In January a Worcester mother told how her vehicle burst into flames on the family's driveway while she and her children were asleep.
She said: 'I was asleep, all the kids were asleep and I just heard a massive bang.
'At first I thought the television had fallen off the wall but when I looked outside I saw the reflection of the flames in our neighbour's windows.
'I was in shock.
'I'm traumatised, the kids are traumatised. I grabbed my three children and the dog and rushed out of the house as quickly as I could.
'It was an electric Peugeot with a 24 reg that I bought in May, the fire was that bad that you can't even tell anymore.
'It now looks like an old racing car that has been abandoned.'

Ice cream man stabbed to death in north-west London named by police
An ice cream seller who was stabbed to death in north-west London has been named by the Metropolitan Police as 41-year-old Shazad Khan. Mr Khan was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to reports of an altercation in Monks Park in Wembley at 6.10pm on Tuesday. His family have been informed and a murder investigation was launched, the Met said. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of Wednesday, while a 31-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene for conspiracy to murder, the force said. Both individuals remain in custody. Local residents told the PA news agency that Mr Khan was well known in the area for selling ice creams in a van. Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, who lives in nearby Tokyngton Avenue, said he was childhood friends with the victim. Speaking at the scene, he said: 'I got a call from one of my cousins. 'This guy, we know him – he's a famous ice cream guy. He got stabbed yesterday. 'I came here and his body was still here, and police had cordoned off the area. 'We don't know the reason why, but all that we know is that a guy with a grey hoodie stabbed him eight times. That's what I've been told. 'I know his brothers as well – they're all local. We all used to play cricket and football here in Monks Park. 'He started (selling) ice cream about a year ago.' Mr Butt said the victim was married and had a young daughter. The victim's ice cream van, which had been parked on the road at the time of the incident, was well known locally for having a large teddy bear, the witness added. A second witness, who did not want to be named, said the ice cream van was towed away from the scene in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A blue forensics tent and a number of Met officers could be seen inside a police cordon in Monks Park on Wednesday afternoon. Removal vehicles also took away a separate white van and blue car. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, local policing commander for north-west London, said: 'Our thoughts remain with Shazad's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. 'This incident will rightly cause concern across the community, but intelligence at this stage leads us to believe there is no wider threat to the public. 'Detectives are conducting a thorough and fast-paced investigation, and locals can expect to see an uptick in police presence in the area. 'Anyone with any information – particularly dashcam or doorbell footage from the time of the incident – is urged to speak to us as a matter of urgency.'

We like it. The next all-new Corsa should be with us in 2027. It'll come in both power types, petrol hybrid and pure electric, much like today. So you have the choice. But only the EV will come as a sporty GSE. All the yellow and black bits on this life-sized concept, the proper racy stuff, have been dialled up for the computer game. The rear spoiler and diffuser extend 25cm to increase downforce on long straights. Slow for a corner and the rear spoiler flips up to act as an air brake. The yoke-like steering wheel has a red 'rocket' boost button. You get four goes. Four illuminated squares on the top of the steering wheel. Once discharged, you have to wait for the regen to power them back up. That won't take long because this thing is a mighty 800hp, with two e-motors, one on each axle, for all-wheel drive. 'So this Vision Gran Turismo car is a way of connecting to a younger audience and bringing them into the brand. 'Corsa is our best-selling car by a long way, so making something fit around the character of Corsa was key. 'You can see the bits that are more design language and then the super hi-tech racing parts. HARD-EDGE PERFORMANCE "But we've kept it to a Corsa footprint.' Vauxhall has already previewed Mokka GSE packing a 280hp e-motor and a limited-slip differential. That's almost double the power of a regular Mokka Electric. Labour MSP is charged over indecent images: Colin Smyth suspended by party after arrest
The Scottish Labour MSP Colin Smyth has been arrested and charged with the possession of indecent images of children. The party has suspended the former modern studies teacher, who served as Scottish Labour's top official before entering Holyrood in 2016, and withdrawn the whip. Mr Smyth said he was in 'shock' and was cooperating with the authorities. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: 'On Tuesday, 5 August, 2025, officers executed a warrant at a property in Dumfries. 'A 52-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with possession of indecent images. He is due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date.' The married father-of-two is now sitting as an Independent MSP for South Scotland. In a statement, Mr Smyth said: 'These events have come as a shock and this is a deeply stressful time. 'I am obviously cooperating fully with any inquiries and hope the matter can be resolved quickly. 'I am not able to comment further at this stage, and in the meantime I would ask that my family and friends are given privacy.' A Scottish Labour spokesman said: 'The whip has been removed from Colin Smyth MSP, pending an investigation. 'We cannot comment further on this matter while the investigation is ongoing.' It is understood the MSP was 'administratively suspended' after the party became aware of the police investigation. Mr Smyth appeared in a video with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar which was posted on social media two days after the arrest, but it has since been deleted. In the week after the arrest, Mr Smyth's own account on X continued to post pictures of him meeting people at the Dumfries & Lockerbie Agricultural Show held on August 2. On August 13, he held a meeting with the Scottish Pensioners' Forum, and on August 15 held a 'doorstep surgery' with a Dumfries Labour councillor about roads and bus services. Born in Dumfries, Mr Smyth was first elected for Labour as a Dumfries & Galloway councillor in 2007. He served as Scottish Labour general secretary from 2008 until 2012, and helped run its disastrous 2011 election campaign, when the SNP won an unprecedented majority. He was elected to Holyrood for the first time in 2016 as a list MSP for South Scotland. He backed Mr Sarwar in the 2021 Scottish Labour leadership race and was given a key role as the party's spokesman on the constitution as the SNP ramped up efforts to secure a second referendum and end the Union. Mr Smyth, whose family hails from Northern Ireland, stood unsuccessfully against the Tories in Dumfriesshire in 2021 election, but he returned to Holyrood via the regional list. In 2023, Mr Sarwar made him his champion for older people and he is currently piloting a member's Bill through Holyrood to establish a Commissioner for Older People. Mr Smyth was re-selected in April as Scottish Labour's candidate in Dumfriesshire for the 2026 Holyrood election. But his suspension means he is currently unable to stand for the party. Until this month, Mr Smyth was convener of Holyrood's economy and fair work committee and a substitute member of its public audit and standards committees. He is married with two daughters. A spokesman for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service added: 'A standard prosecution report has been received by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service from Police Scotland in relation to a 52-year-old man.'
