England captain Ben Stokes on Sunday broke his silence about his availability for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, to be played at The Oval from Thursday.
Stokes said he had been suffering from pain in his right bicep tendon—on top of various other injuries—as he bowled only 12 overs during India's hard-fought draw at Old Trafford.

"I don't want to eat my words, but the likelihood I won't play is very unlikely," said Stokes.
"Mentally, I'm decent. Physically, I've been better."
"It's been a pretty big workload so far in this series," said the England captain.
"It was another big week in the third Test at Lord's, and the same again this week.
Pain is just an emotion, so it's just one of those things.
"It's my bicep tendon. It's had a lot of workload. It's a lot of time in the middle doing my job. It didn't get any worse. Hopefully, it settles down and will be as good as gold for the last game."

Stokes is the leading wicket-taker on either side in the England-India series with 17 wickets—his most successful bowling return across a 12-year Test career. The 140 overs he has bowled in the series is also the highest workload of his career.

"It's been a big five or six weeks,' he said. 'I will always give everything I possibly can. I ask the guys to try to run through a brick wall for the team, and I will always try to do the same and lead by example. Bowling and being in the field is tough work, so I am pretty sore.

Will Ben Stokes play in the final Test against India?
Yes, he will play
No, he won't play
Still undecided
Depends on his recovery
'I think everyone is going to be pretty similar: shut it down, rest up, and give themselves the best chance of selection. I won't hide away from the fact that it has been a tough few days, especially for the bowling unit. We like to get our team out a couple of days before, but we might have to take longer to give everyone as much time as possible to recover.
'We are going in 2-1 up, but we want to put in that one last big performance. We kept saying today: one last push before one last push next week. There is a lot of hard work still to go in this series.'

David Lloyd on Manchester final hour controversy: ‘Take the bails off because it's a farce…'

When Ben Stokes asked for a draw during the fifth Test between India and England on the final day at Manchester, both Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, who were nearing their tons denied, which meant the match was forced into mandatory 15 overs. The incident sparked a brawl between both sides, and there were quite contrasting views from different former players and experts. Former England cricketer David Lloyd also gave his view on the matter. 'There's a facility to end the game. Take the bails off because it's a farce. Would you want to get your (100) if you're on 80, would you want to get your maiden Test match century against law books?' Llyod said speaking on The Overlap's cricket. 'I think the umpire, the game, there's a facility in the game to call a stalemate, of which Ben Stokes called the stalemate, 'we can't win this game, they (India) can't win the game,''he added. Meanwhile, South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi wondered aloud on X why such a big deal was being made about India not accepting the offer to end the match immediately. 'Why is there such a big deal being made about the Indians choosing not to accept the offer to end the game in a draw immediately? The offer was offer was rejected n they were fully entitled to make their choice. They got their 100s which they worked hard for. Game over,' Shamsi said. To this, Steyn said, 'Shamo this onion has many layers to it, and each one will make someone cry. The only issue I see here is the one thing people aren't realizing, the batters weren't playing for 100s, they were batting for a DRAW. That was the goal. Draw the game. Once that was accomplished, and a result was out of the question a handshake was offered, that's the gentlemanly thing to do right? It's not then the time to realize they safe and now say no we'd prefer some free milestones… although within the rules, just seems a little, well, odd. That said, they did bat well, and maybe with the last hour approaching they should have been more aggressive in reaching those milestones, at least then, we could all agree, no team tried to out do the other in this weird situation.'

‘Absolutely unnecessary': Shubman Gill breaks silence on Gautam Gambhir's fight with Oval pitch curator

India captain Shubman Gill said that he fails to understand why the pitch curator at the Oval had a problem with them taking a look at the wicket from close quarters, an incident which eventually led to head coach Gautam Gambhir having a verbal altercation with the latter. Clips of Gambhir's angry exchange with Lee Fortis went viral on Tuesday and Gill said that India were never given any instructions about how to approach the pitch that were outside of what is general practice. 'As long as I remember there was never any instructions like that,' said Gill when asked on the even of the fifth Test between India and England if they were informed early on by the ground staff at the Oval about needing to stay 2.5 metres away from the playing surface when inspecting the pitch in the days before the match. 'As long as we are wearing rubber spikes or barefooted, you can see the wicket from close quarters. I don't know what happened yesterday, why the curator didn't allow it. We have played four matches (in the ongoing tour of England), no one stopped us from doing that. We have played enough cricket in the past and captains and coaches have looked at the pitches from close so many times. I don't know what the fuss was all about,' he said. Gill further siad that the coach has every right to take a look at the pitch from close quarters. 'I thought it's just absolutely unnecessary. It's not the first time that we were having a look at the wicket. We have been here for almost two months. A coach has every right to be able to go close quarters and have a look at the wicket. I don't think there is anything wrong with that and I actually don't know why the curator would not allow us to go have a look at the wicket. 'If a pitch curator is going to come and ask us to not look at the wicket, or look at it from 3 meters away, that's not something that has happened to us before. We have been playing cricket for a long time, as long as we are wearing rubber spikes or barefoot, we are allowed to look at the wicket from close quarters, which is the job of the coach and the captain. So I don't know why they didn't allow us to do that,' he said. In visuals captured by the travelling flock of Indian media, Gambhir can be seen yelling at a burly man, who was later identified as Fortis. After having drawn the fourth Test at Old Trafford, India have a chance… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) July 29, 2025 Gambhir can be heard yelling 'you don't tell us what we need to do'. Later, India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had revealed that the Oval staff had tried to tell Indian team management when they had gone to check out the wicket to stand two and a half metres away. This had sparked the confrontation between India head coach Gambhir and Fortis, where he can be seen telling the India coach that he will raise a complaint with the match referee. Fortis has been in charge of the pitch at the Oval ion London since 2012, when he was brought on to replace Bill Gordon. Before 2012, Fortis had previously worked as an assistant head groundsman at the Oval before leaving in 2006. He had a stint tending the Honourable Artillery Company ground in the City of London. After taking charge of the Oval ground as Surrey's Head of Ground Staff, Fortis claimed the award for the best multi-day pitches for the third consecutive year at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) 2024 Grounds Manager of the Year Awards last year.

'This is tough': Miami Dolphins CB Kader Kohou out for 2025 NFL season with knee injury, leaving secondary in crisis

Miami Dolphins CB Kader Kohou out for 2025 NFL season (Image via Getty) The Miami Dolphins' defense suffered a heartbreaking blow as cornerback Kader Kohou is now ruled out for the entire 2025 NFL season. He injured his knee during one-on-one drills Saturday and was helped off the field by medical staff. Just days later, safety Ashtyn Davis went down with a leg injury during Tuesday's practice. While Davis is not out for the year, the back-to-back injuries have rattled the team ahead of preseason. Kader Kohou's season-ending injury hits hard for a defense already under rebuild pressure This wasn't just another injury — it was Miami's top nickel corner going down just as the defense was finding its new identity. Kohou was the lone returning starter in a reshuffled secondary and had looked sharp in early camp. His injury happened quickly during drills and left teammates visibly shaken. Coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Wednesday that he'll be placed on injured reserve. 'I saw him ascend to a different level this offseason,' McDaniel told reporters. 'The timing of it — I was crushed until I talked to Kader.' Kohou, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2022, had earned every inch of his starting role. Losing him just as he was peaking made the news all the more difficult for the team to absorb. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Mike McDaniel finds hope in Kader Kohou's mindset: 'This is tough, but I guarantee I'm going to come back better.' McDaniel's tone was emotional, not just as a coach, but as someone who clearly respects Kohou as a person. 'Kader made me feel a little bit better, simply by his mindset,' he said. 'You don't know the whys all the time when things happen… Kader's mindset triggered like that, to where he said, 'This is tough, but I guarantee I'm going to come back better.'' That resilience is what sticks. Miami wasted no time reacting — signing veteran cornerback Mike Hilton shortly after the injury. Hilton brings playoff experience from the Bengals and will help steady a shaken secondary. But truthfully, no one on the depth chart can fully replace Kohou's grit or leadership. The locker room felt the loss — and it wasn't just about Xs and Os. Ashtyn Davis' scare adds to Dolphins' stress, but McDaniel says 'it wasn't the worst.' Then came Tuesday, and more bad news. Safety Ashtyn Davis suffered a left leg injury during practice and stayed down, punching the turf in frustration. Minutes later, he was seen on crutches and wearing a walking boot. That kind of scene never goes unnoticed at training camp — teammates looked stunned. Thankfully, Coach McDaniel later said the news wasn't catastrophic. 'It wasn't the worst,' he shared. Davis will be reevaluated in the coming days, and there's hope he'll return before long. But paired with Kohou's injury, it's clear this wasn't the camp Miami had planned. They're already being tested — mentally and physically — before the season has even begun. Q3: Who replaces Kohou in the lineup? Miami signed Mike Hilton, a veteran corner with playoff experience, to help stabilize the secondary. He's expected to fill the nickel role moving forward.
