Maoist commander killed in police encounter in Jharkhand's Latehar
RANCHI: Maoist commander Manish Yadav, who had a bounty of ₹5 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Latehar in Jharkhand late Sunday night.
Meanwhile, another wanted Maoist, Kundar Kherwar, who carried a reward of ₹10 lakh, was arrested from the encounter site.
According to police officials, the gunfight took place in the forests of Karamkhad and Dauna under the Mahuadanr Police Station in Latehar. An intensive search operation is underway in the area to locate other Maoists believed to be hiding in the jungles.
Police sources said the encounter began late Sunday night and continued until Monday morning. During the post-encounter search operation, the body of a Maoist was recovered and later identified as Manish Yadav.
Palamu DIG Y.S. Ramesh confirmed the incident. "Following a tip-off that Maoist Manish Yadav had been seen in the forest with his squad, a police team was formed, and a search operation was launched. However, as soon as the Maoists spotted the security forces, they opened fire. The security forces retaliated, killing Manish Yadav on the spot," said DIG Ramesh.
Two automatic rifles and other daily-use items were recovered from the site.
With the elimination of Manish Yadav, the leadership of Bihar-based Maoist units in the Budha Pahad training center has effectively ended.
A resident of Chhakarbandha in Gaya district, Yadav was considered the last top Maoist commander from Bihar active in the Budha Pahad region. He had been operating in the area for over a decade.
Manish Yadav began as an ordinary cadre in the Maoist squad and gradually rose to the rank of sub-zonal commander. His in-laws reportedly live in the same area where the encounter occurred.
This marks the second major success for the Jharkhand Police in recent days. On Friday night, Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) commander Pappu Lohra and sub-zonal commander Prabhat Ganjhu were also killed in an encounter. Lohra and Ganjhu had bounties of ₹10 lakh and ₹5 lakh respectively on their heads.

ROURKELA: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Rourkela police on Sunday recovered two explosives-laden trucks parked suspiciously near a fuel station at Balughat in RN Pali here for the last two days. The recovery comes close on the heels of the loot of huge quantity of blasting explosives by Maoists from Banko forest in K Balang on May 27. The source of the explosives looted by Maoists and the explosives seized on Sunday has been traced to the same warehouse in Bargaon block of Sundargarh district. The warehouse has been sealed from May 28. Sources said about 116 packets of gelatine sticks, 416 detonators and 750 metre of charging electric wires were recovered from the two trucks. Police said it is suspected that owner of the warehouse Shraban Agarwal is involved in illegal supply of explosives to stone quarries and mines for monetary gain. A top police officer said during investigation, the SIT learnt that on May 27, three trucks laden with explosives had come out of the warehouse. While one truck was looted by the Maoists, the two others were kept hidden. During interrogation in the K Balang case, the warehouse owner told police that explosives loaded in the two trucks were delivered to clients.

Maoists torch mining vehicles in Hazaribagh, youth injured in firing
Hazaribagh: Armed militants of the banned outfit Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) torched two vehicles belonging to BGR Mining Company and opened indiscriminate fire in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district on Sunday night, leaving a youth injured and triggering panic in the area, officials said on Monday. The incident took place near Pagar-Pandu village in the Keredari police station limits. BGR Mining is involved in coal extraction work under the KD (Khalari-Dakra) project of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). The militants targeted the company's vehicles parked at the site and fled after setting them ablaze. Eyewitnesses said the attackers, part of an armed squad, fired randomly before escaping into the nearby forests. A youth caught in the gunfire sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. His condition is said to be stable. Security forces recovered a pamphlet from the scene, purportedly issued by TSPC's sub-zonal commander Kaushal. In it, the group warned NTPC, CCL, L&T, and other contractor firms not to begin any operations without prior "permission" from the organisation. The pamphlet threatened more severe action if the warning is ignored. The TSPC claimed in the note that it is working in the interest of local tribals and the general public. It accused the government of harassing innocent villagers under the pretext of anti-Maoist operations and described its own activities as a fight against exploitation. Following the attack, police from the Pagar outpost, led by in-charge Vicky Thakur, reached the spot and launched a search operation. Patrolling has been intensified in the region, and a probe is underway. Suspected individuals are being questioned. The incident has sparked fear among workers associated with mining operations in Keredari and surrounding areas. Similar incidents have been reported in recent weeks. In early May, Maoists torched six vehicles and two excavators at a mining site in Turisat village under Chandwa police station limits in Latehar district. Just a week ago, militants of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) set fire to two vehicles, including a road roller, involved in a road construction project in Khunti district's Rania area.

Mohali surgeon duped in online trading scam, loses Rs 91 lakh; Cyber Cell launches probe
A senior surgeon working at a renowned hospital in Mohali has fallen victim to a large-scale online trading scam. According to the complaint filed with the Punjab State Cyber Crime Cell, the doctor was defrauded of approximately Rs 91 lakh by unidentified cyber fraudsters. As per the information shared with the Cyber Crime Police Station, the doctor received an email from a Hyderabad-based company claiming to be S&W Aubrey Capital Management Investment Funds. Through this email communication, he was added to a WhatsApp group called MK-S&W India VIP-67080. The members of the group assured him of daily profits if he invested in their trading platform. From February 19, 2025, to the last week of May, the doctor transferred funds through various channels such as UPI, RTGS, and bank transfers. The money was sent to HDFC Bank, Bandhan Bank, and Bank of Baroda accounts. In total, nine major transactions amounting to nearly Rs 91 lakh were made. The doctor stated that when he attempted to withdraw his profits, his account was deleted, and all communication with the fraudsters was cut off. Based on the complaint and supporting evidence, the police have registered a case against unknown individuals under sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The Cyber Crime Cell has initiated a detailed investigation and issued a public warning to remain cautious of unknown investment platforms. The matter is being investigated thoroughly, and strict legal action will be taken against the culprits, said an official from the Cyber Crime Cell.
