ABBA Voyage has been a huge success since its launch three years ago, but now the Swedish group's digital avatars are set to be kicked out of their East London arena.
I can reveal plans have been drawn up to make way for a 1,000-home neighbourhood, which would mean the venue, constructed especially for the concert spectacle, will be demolished by the end of the decade to make way for apartment blocks.

The news is likely to devastate fans, as the group have said the concert — using state-of-the-art technology to show a younger version of the group on stage — is the closest anyone will come to seeing Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Bjorn Ulvaeus perform together again.
It also scuppers hopes the Spice Girls could take over the arena, in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, after The Sun revealed the girl group have been planning to create their own similar digital residency.
The concert is currently booking up until January 2026, although it is expected to continue for longer.
The show's CEO and executive producer Michael Bolingbroke previously said: 'ABBA Voyage will certainly run for another couple of years and hopefully longer — in an ideal world we'd stay for ever.'
Building work on the first two phases of a major new estate is scheduled to start next year just metres away from the arena.
Real loss
That will include construction on the site of the nearby hotel and bar Snoozebox, where revellers often congregate after the performances and which only has permission to stay until the end of 2025.
The first homes on the site are scheduled to be completed in 2028, but earlier this year, ABBA's Bjorn said he believed the arena could remain until 2029.
He explained: 'We are allowed to stay in our venue till 2029, but sales might drop, you never know.'
The arena was originally built as a moveable venue, but the band later admitted they hoped the show would stay in the area.
During its run, ABBA Voyage has attracted more than two million visitors and has contributed £1.4billion to the UK economy.
ABBA make a rare appearance together as they are honoured by the King and Queen of Sweden
A spokesperson for ABBA Voyage said: 'We are in constant dialogue with the London Legacy Development Corporation and Newham Council about our lease and we welcome the opportunity to stay at the arena for as long as viable.
'At present, there are no plans for any changes to be made.'
It would be a real loss for it to go, but it's certainly been a massive triumph.

Indiana Jones dev working on multiple games but is it Wolfenstein 3 and Quake?

Some suspect the studio's already working on an Indiana Jones sequel (Bethesda) MachineGames' latest financial report mentions plans for multiple projects and what might just be Wolfenstein 3. It's difficult to be enthusiastic about Xbox's gaming prospects after another brutal wave of layoffs has seen hundreds of its employees out of work and several projects cancelled. Some of Microsoft's internal studios have escaped relatively unscathed, though. Case in point: MachineGames, the Swedish studio responsible for Indiana Jones And The Great Circle. The lack of official information about the layoffs means there's no telling how badly MachineGames was impacted, if it was at all, but a recent financials report from the studio suggests it has more than one game currently in development. Spotted and shared by Timur222 on Bluesky, the report covers MachineGames' 2024 fiscal year, which runs from January 2024 to December 2024, and by all accounts it seems to have been a successful one. Net sales were higher than the year before, with MachineGames generating roughly 428 million SEK (about £33 million) compared to the approximately 350 million SEK in 2023. As a result, the studio turned higher profits than both its 2023 and 2022 financial years, with a net profit of about 26 million SEK (about £2 million). You can view the results here and on the surface, they sound good – although who knows whether the higher-ups at Microsoft see it that way. MachineGames's financial statements for 2024 are outFuture Development:With new exciting projects in development, MachineGames is optimistic about the future for both the company and the industry as a wholeOther info — Timur222 (@ 2025-07-20T14:08:09.587Z In an attached management report, MachineGames says: 'With new exciting projects in development, MachineGames is optimistic about the future for both the company and the industry as a whole.' You'll note they say projects, in the plural, which would seem to mean at least two, even though there's no official word on what any of them are – but there are plenty of theories. The most likely is a Quake reboot, which MachineGames has been hinting about for years and even seemed to be teased during the marketing for The Great Circle. Not only have MachineGames staff openly talked about wanting to reboot the Quake series, which was originally created by id Software, but they've already contributed new expansions to the remasters of Quake 1 and Quake 2. There's been less hints about another Wolfenstein game but the original plan was for a trilogy. However, the limited commerical success of Wolfenstein 2 seemed to put a stop to that – or at least delay it significantly. Back in 2018, Pete Hines – the then vice president of PR and marketing, at publisher and owner Bethesda – confirmed a Wolfenstein 3 was on the table. Hines retired from the company in 2023, but that doesn't necessarily mean plans have changed and that same year MachineGames posted a new job listing for someone with a passion for 'first person immersive games' and a 'strong familiarity with MachineGames' titles.' Considering the more recent success of the Indiana Jones game, MachineGames is more likely to be preparing for a sequel. Some believe this has already been hinted at by a recent job listing for a senior concept artist at the studio. However, the listing makes no mention of working with the Indiana Jones brand, with the only hint being that applicants need 'experience working in the game and/or film industry.' Aside from being optional, the studio's request for film industry experience doesn't necessarily mean it's for another Indy project and could just as easily apply to any other game with cinematic style presentation. It may also be too early for MachineGames to have started development on a second Indiana Jones game, as it's yet to release The Great Circle's DLC story expansion. As a reminder, the expansion is dubbed The Order Of The Giants and is scheduled to launch across all platforms on September 4. Cox also admitted his connection to the city has been "severed" following the loss of his older sister Betty, who died at the age of 92 in 2023. The actor told the Big Issue magazine: "I'm 79 and I'm old enough to remember walking down the high street when [lightweight boxer] Dick McTaggart won gold at the 1956 Olympics in Australia. "I have this memory of him riding through the streets on top of the tram with his cup. "The town was lively then. "It was poor, but it had character. "Now the high street of Dundee is an absolute f*****g disgrace, just as it was in the '50s when they started sending people out into the schemes, which had no amenities and nothing to encourage community. "I lost half my class in 1956 when they all went off to the schemes." In the 1950s, Dundee built new council housing for working-class families, many of which were built on the outskirts of the city. Cox said he was "bereft" when Dundee citizens were moved out of the city centre, adding: "This lack of thinking still irritates me and it's constant. Scottish Premiership club enlist Hollywood superstar to sell their £95M new stadium and hotel plans "I met Dundee's Lord Provost recently and he told me he wanted to get people back into the city, I told him they should never have taken them out in the first place. "The damage that was done is the problem for all these new towns now. "You alienate people and effectively put them in open prisons." Cox added: "My connection to the place has been severed. "The reason I used to come back to Dundee was because of my oldest sister, Betty, and she passed away a few years ago. "So coming back has been sad, because now I want to see her and she's not here."

Formula shows which karaoke songs are most likely to boost mood

An Oxford University mathematician has explained the best karaoke song of all time, after devising a unique formula. Dr Tom Crawford has explained which songs are best to sing - and why - as new 'Kathartic Karaoke' booths from Three UK and Samaritans launch at festivals this summer. Dr Tom devised a formula which grades each song with a score out of 100 (K). In the equation, which was developed using data from 2,000 karaoke lovers, V refers to the number of verses, C repetition of chorus, BPM to the song's beats per minute and Y to the year the song was released. Dr Tom used his formula to rank the UK's favourite karaoke songs and identify ten guaranteed to boost moods and help find joy. 1. Livin' On a Prayer – Bon Jovi (91%) 2. I Wanna Dance with Somebody – Whitney Houston (90%) 3. Don't Look Back in Anger – Oasis (89%) 4. Man! I Feel Like a Woman – Shania Twain (88%) 5. 500 Miles – The Proclaimers (88%) 6. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) – ABBA (85%) 7. Unwritten – Natasha Bedingfield (84%) 8. Someone Like You – Adele (84%) 9. Wannabe – Spice Girls (84%) 10. Let Me Love You – Mario (83%) Dr Tom said: 'People love a fast-paced song with an average 126 BPM and 3 repeated chorus' for every 2 verses, just like most pop songs – hence why common favourites are scoring highly in the research. With ABBA dominating the 70's, through to Adele in the 2010's, the average release year of a karaoke classic is 1995. This captures the boyband craze, as well as Brit pop with Oasis, and girl power like the Spice Girls, showing there's some serious maths behind a karaoke belter.' The 'Kathartic Karaoke' initiative forms part of Three and Samaritans' commitment to mental health support and wellbeing. Launching this week at Klarna presents Latitude Festival in Suffolk (24 to 27 July), the karaoke booth will then move to The Mound at Edinburgh Fringe (15-16 August). The experience has been designed to help festival goers boost their mood with music and singing. And in partnership with Samaritans, singers can head to Samaritans tent at Latitude if they want to talk or scan a QR code to seek additional support. Nicki Lyons, Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer at VodafoneThree, said: 'We are delighted to be partnering with Samaritans for the first time at music festivals, to create joyful spaces for people to connect to one another and experience our 'Kathartic Karaoke' for themselves.' Sonya Trivedy, Executive Director of External Engagement at Samaritans, said: 'Music has a unique power to have a positive impact on our mental health. Singing, in particular, can help people process emotions, ease stress and boost mood. Through this pitch-perfect partnership with Three, we're turning up the volume on wellbeing, using music as a carefree way to connect, express, and take care of your emotional health.' Samaritans volunteers will be at Latitude throughout the festival, ready to listen without judgement, whether it's in the early hours after a long night or while queuing for a morning coffee. Their presence is a powerful reminder that support is available 24/7, every day of the year. The festival also coincides with Samaritans Awareness Day on 24 July, known as 24/7, which shines a light on the charity's round-the-clock service and the life-saving impact of human connection.
