G65 BMW X5 Approaches With New Looks
The Autoblog spies have captured new spy shots of the upcoming 2027 BMW X5, internally known as the G65, and while the exterior hasn't changed much since our last sighting a month ago (only new wheels are evident), our spies have finally caught a glimpse of the cabin, revealing a new steering wheel that treads the line between round and square as part of a completely revised cabin. Much of the interior is still hidden beneath camouflaging drapery, but BMW's next-gen infotainment tech is on display, and it seems to be incorporated seamlessly.

Unveiled at the top of the year at the Consumer Electronics Show, BMW Panoramic iDrive includes a new (optional) head-up display system called BMW Panoramic Vision, which features 3D overlays. This sits just ahead of the driver and can interact with the central display, swiping apps and readouts between the two. Below this, a narrow bar stretches from pillar to pillar just below the hood line. This acts as the driver information display but also handles other information according to the driver's customization preferences, keeping all the most important information near the line of sight.
There will still be a conventional central infotainment display for media and settings that require a larger interface, but the idea is that the driver doesn't need to look away from the road to use this screen nearly as much as before. That steering wheel we mentioned earlier? Its touchpad controls may not be as tactile as a button, but BMW says haptic feedback will make glancing down a rare occurrence.
What Else To Expect

The new infotainment system will form part of all Neue Klasse EVs, but also combustion vehicles built on the same platform. BMW likes to put its latest tech in existing vehicles whenever possible, which is why entry-level models like the X1 received iDrive 9 before more upmarket offerings like the 5 Series.
As for which X5 variant we're looking at, the existence of a quad-exit exhaust setup indicates not the X5 M but the M Performance version of the regular X5, the M60i. For the G65 model launching next year, the name will become X5 M60e as the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 mild-hybrid system will be swapped out for a plug-in hybrid six-cylinder, expected to deliver over 550 horsepower. Range-extender hybrids are also reportedly in development. Fortunately, full-fat M cars are expected to retain their traditional engines, so the X5 M should retain its V8.

Developer unveils AI-powered innovation that could boost EV performance: 'Making a significant contribution'
German engineers are taking more precise measurements inside the cramped, hot confines of electric vehicle motors. And their innovative diagnostic setup will have range-boosting potential, according to a news release from developer ZF. The product, called TempAI, uses artificial intelligence to improve temperature control by 15%. It's an invention that boosts efficiency, reduces the need for rare and expensive materials, and shortens development times from months to days, per ZF. "We are proud to bring this innovation into series production and thus making a significant contribution to more efficient e-mobility," Otmar Scharrer, ZF's head of development for electrified powertrain technology, said in the release. Generally, electric motors use power from the battery to drive the wheels. Cooling systems, controllers, and other tech are typically part of the setups, per the U.S. Department of Energy. ZF's AI software doesn't require more hardware add-ons. The temperature analysis requires low energy but provides fast, actionable metrics for existing control units. As a result, the motors can operate to their safest limit, giving 6% more peak power, while reducing energy consumption up to 18%. The performance was proved during testing, according to ZF. "This technology enables us to further increase the efficiency and reliability of our drives. At the same time, TempAI demonstrates how data-driven development can be not only faster, but also more sustainable and more powerful," Dr. Stefan Sicklinger, head of AI, digital engineering, and validation in research and development, said in the release. AI is being used by experts at the University of Liverpool to develop a better EV battery electrolyte. In China, advanced computing is helping scientists better understand nuclear fusion reactors. At ZF, it is giving experts an inside look at e-motors through millions of data points. "TempAI is a real technological breakthrough for the temperature management of electric drives." Scharrer said in the release. The improved performance could help increase already strong EV numbers. BloombergNEF reported that experts expect 22 million EVs to be sold globally this year. It would be a 25% jump from last year. Would you be more likely to get an EV if it came with a free home charger? Definitely Depends what the car costs Depends how fast it charges Not really Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. That's despite slowing numbers stateside — mainly due to fossil-friendly energy policy that leverages "a mighty federal arsenal," according to Politico. EV tax credits worth up to $7,500 are being retired years early, on Sept. 30, CNBC reported. The clean energy cutbacks are part of President Donald Trump's spending bill. Still, certain states provide their own incentives. That's in addition to the approximately $1,500 a year EV owners can save in gas and service costs. What's more, each EV that replaces a gas-guzzling ride prevents thousands of pounds of heat-trapping air pollution annually, according to the DOE. Tailpipe exhaust and other fumes are released when fossil fuels are burned, polluting the air with toxic substances that contribute to 6.5 million deaths worldwide a year, per the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Hastening the shift to cleaner transportation can help clear the air. At ZF, the team thinks its AI-powered motor monitoring will be an important process during development that replaces costly measurements taken during operation and improves EV performance. "The result: more power, less unused reserves — and a leap in efficiency that pays off," per the release. Cybertruck Leads Tesla's Used-Car Collapse
The Tesla Cybertruck was supposed to be the future. Unveiled in a now-infamous 2019 event where its supposedly 'bulletproof' windows shattered on stage, the sci-fi pickup, with its polarizing stainless-steel design, was hyped by CEO Elon Musk as an indestructible vehicle that would completely disrupt the lucrative truck market. Today, that future looks like a commercial flop. Prices for used Cybertrucks are in a freefall, a stunning collapse that has become the most visible symbol of the deep and growing crisis at Tesla. According to new data from the auto marketplace CarGurus, the average price of a used Cybertruck has plunged a staggering 30.35% in the last year, now hovering around $84,027. This dizzying drop for what was once one of the most anticipated vehicles in history is a major blow for Musk, confirming that the Cybertruck has failed to find a mainstream audience. The collapse in the used market mirrors its disastrous performance in the new market. In the second quarter of this year, Tesla sold only 4,306 Cybertrucks, a 50.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from Cox Automotive Kelley Blue Book. The Cybertruck's failure is the leading edge of a much larger problem for the company. The same CarGurus data reveals that used Tesla prices as a whole have now plummeted below the average for the entire U.S. used car market. As of early August, the average price for all used vehicles in the U.S. was $28,048. The average price of a used Tesla was just $27,852, down a steep 14% year-over-year. This is a shocking development for a brand that has always commanded a premium price, especially since the market average includes budget cars. It shows a fundamental imbalance: a growing number of owners are looking to offload their Teslas, but fewer buyers are willing to step in. The damage is brand-wide. The average used price of a Model S is down nearly 23% year-over-year. The Model X luxury SUV is down almost 16%. Even the Model Y, the world's best-selling electric vehicle, has seen its used price drop nearly 12%. So, what happened? The answer lies with the company's once-infallible CEO. Elon Musk's increasingly controversial political actions have alienated the core of Tesla's original customer base: environmentally conscious, liberal-leaning buyers. His high-profile role in the Trump administration's infamous Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—which slashed federal budgets and fired employees—along with his promotion of far-right and white supremacist ideas on his social network X, has fundamentally damaged the Tesla brand. The result has been global protests outside Tesla showrooms and a sharp drop in the company's sales and profits. In the second quarter, the carmaker's net revenue fell 16.3% from the same period last year. While Musk has recently stepped back from his official government role to focus on Tesla, the road to repairing the company's image looks incredibly long. The Cybertruck, once the ultimate symbol of Musk's futuristic vision, has now become the ultimate symbol of his brand's decline. The Cybertruck used-market crash is both a symptom and a signal. It highlights waning demand, production missteps, and reputational risk. For Tesla to rebound, it may need to reconsider pricing, marketing strategy, and public positioning. Until then, even Tesla's futuristic flagship can't override the declining brand vitality.
