In first operation this monsoon, two women Maoists gunned down in Chhattisgarh's Abujhmad
Two women Maoists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Abujhmad in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district Wednesday night.
The encounter comes days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah said anti-insurgency operations would continue during the monsoon. Operations are usually suspended as the rains intensify.
A joint team of District Reserve Guard from Narayanpur and Kondagaon along with Special Task Force (STF) undertook the operation after getting intelligence reports on the presence of Maoists cadres in the forest.
The bodies of two Maoists have been found so far. Police claim they found an INSAS rifle and a .315 gun, some medicines and 'Naxal materials' in their possession.
This takes the total number of Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh to 214, of which 197 have been killed in the Bastar region alone. Last year, 219 Maoists were killed in Chhattisgarh including 217 in Bastar.
During this visit to Chhattisgarh on June 22, Union Minister Shah had warned that anti-insurgency will continue this monsoon. He said: 'I want to say this to the people of Chhattisgarh before I go… Every year during the rainy season, Naxals used to get some rest. But this time, we will not allow them to sleep even during the rains, and will move forward to achieve our March 2026 goal.'
Shah had also made an appeal to Maoists. 'I again appeal to all youngsters who got misled and joined the Naxal movement to surrender under the attractive surrender policy. Drop your weapons and join the path of Chhattisgarh's development. You will never get a better opportunity than this. There is no need for discussion. Have faith in the government, drop your weapons and join the mainstream.'

"Emergency was not a black day for democracy": Sanjay Raut defends Nehru-Gandhi legacy

Speaking to the mediapersons, Raut said, 'Look, people say that the Emergency imposed is a black day for the democracy and the constitution of the country. We do not believe this. Balasaheb Thackeray openly supported the Emergency. The day Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in this country was a black day for the country. Terming the imposition of Emergency in India for 21 months from 1975 to 1977, the Home Minister said, 'Bad incidents usually should be forgotten in life. And it is correct, but when it relates to social life and national life, bad incidents should be remembered forever, so that the youth and teenagers of the country are cultured, organised, ready to defend, and ensure that such bad incidents are never repeated.' Shah said with this thought in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to commemorate June 25 of every year as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' and the Union Home Ministry issued a notification related to it. 'How the country was reduced to a prison during the Emergency, the soul of the country made dumb, the courts made deaf and pens of the writers were made to fall silent, keeping those things in mind and after giving it a thought, it was decided to commemorate today as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. This will bring awareness to the younger generations about the incidents that happened during the emergency,' Shah said. He further said, 'Remembering the Emergency is not just knowing history, but a warning.' The Union Home Minister said that on the night of June 24, 1975, the Emergency was imposed, and an ordinance was promulgated to implement a dictatorial mindset. (ANI)
