Yahoo19-05-2025
Enniskillen swimmer Luke Lannon impressed at the Leinster/Connacht Regional Championships in Dublin last weekend, returning home with a silver medal and a series of personal bests that have earned his place at the Irish Youth and Senior Summer Nationals.
14-year-old Luke, a student at St Michael's College and a member of Longford Swim Club, is aged up to compete in the 15/16-year-old category, took on a demanding race schedule over three days at the National Aquatic Centre.
The highlight for Luke was the 1500m freestyle, where he swam with control and determination to secure a well-deserved silver medal in one of the most gruelling events of the meet.
In the 400m freestyle, Luke knocked almost two seconds off his personal best to post a time of 4:51.40, finishing second in his heat and ranking as the third-fastest 15-year-old overall, which also secured his fourth qualifying time for the Irish Summer Nationals.
Luke continued his strong form with a 5th-place finish in both the 400m Individual Medley and the 200m Backstroke, and rounded out the weekend with an 8th-place finish in the 200m Individual Medley, setting another personal best of 2:39.50, a five-second improvement on his entry time.
He now prepares to represent Longford Swim Club once again in mid and long-distance events at the summer national championships.

Roquan Smith shows gratitude for swim lessons from Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps is the G.O.A.T. of swimming; that's just a fact. No one in history is more accomplished in Olympic swimming than Phelps, as his multitude of records speaks for itself. Phelps is also a Baltimore native and a big-time Ravens supporter, so when the opportunity came to help out his favorite team, he jumped at the chance. Phelps, as well as Ray Lewis, one of the franchise's all-time greatest players (some might call him the Ravens G.O.A.T., but that's another debate discussion for another time), came to practice this week and spoke to the team. Two living legends, providing top-tier motivational speeches to a team with very high ambitions this season. And Phelps also hit the pool at the Ravens facility; naturally. He also taught Ravens players how to swim, and one of them in particular, All-Pro inside linebacker Roquan Smith, was very thankful. Smith said that if he had to swim a short distance to save his own life, he now could- thanks to Phelps and his teachings this past week. 'If I have to swim less than 20 yards, I could survive somehow because I could doggy paddle,' Smith is quoted in a story on the Ravens website. 'But as far as actually swimming and knowing how to breathe and things of that nature, honestly, it was my first time. It was really cool. It was really solid, some of the lessons they gave me. I feel a little more confident.' Now that's what we call making a positive impact on people's lives! Legendary Olympic hero agrees to teach key Ravens how to swim

Baltimore renovated the Under Armour Performance Complex, and one of the critical places to receive a facelift was the Ravens' swimming pool. With a state-of-the-art facility, key players like Marlon Humphrey, Ronnie Stanley, and Kyle Hamilton had suggested that Olympic hero, and Baltimore native, Michael Phelps, teach the guys how to swim. According to Jamison Hemsley of ESPN, Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, agreed to teach the Ravens how to swim: This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Michael Phelps to teach Baltimore Ravens how to swim

Olympic legend Michael Phelps makes good on promise made to hometown Ravens

Baseball is known as the national pastime. Some say football overtook it a while ago. We don't often reference swimming in the same regard, but every four years, the great Michael Phelps, a die-hard Baltimore Ravens fan and Charm City native, made us forget that was the case. There has never been a more decorated Olympic swimmer. He has accumulated 28 medals during his decorated career. 23 of them are of a golden plating, but regardless of where his success took him, home is still where the heart is. He lives in Arizona now, but his heart never left Maryland. Michael Phelps visits the Ravens and their new pool Recently, the Ravens called a hometown hero to action. Several of the more popular social media mainstays invited him to teach them how to swim via X. "I got y'all!!! Let's do it!!" That was the response from the best of the best. Two weeks later, he was home again, as you might expect, everyone noticed, especially everyone holding some sort of camera. That isn't surprising. This isn't the type of guy that you can sneak in and out of town. Let's say a time was had. Though the Ravens admittedly are short on swimmers, the G.O.A.T. found one on the Ravens' roster who might be capable of making some noise in his sport. Training camps can be brutal. It's good to see the guys blow off some steam, as they have certainly put in a ton of time in their efforts to be excellent. Olympic glory will have to wait, though, for Hamilton and everyone else. This iteration of the Ravens is too busy trying to equal Phelps' sustained excellence by chasing a trophy of their own.
