Two men due in court over violent disorder and discharge of firearm in Tullamore, Co Offaly
Two men have been charged in connection with incidents of violent disorder and the discharge of a firearm in Tullamore, Co Offaly last month.
The men, aged in late 30s and early 40s, were arrested following the incidents at the Kilcruttin and Midlands Regional Hospital areas on Friday, March 21.
They were detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in Co. Offaly and have since been charged.
They are due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning.
Gardaí had responded to incidents of violent disorder and the discharge of a firearm in Tullamore on the night of Friday, March 21.
'At approximately 9.50pm, gardaí were alerted to a public disturbance at Midlands Regional Hospital,' a garda spokesperson said at the time
A short time later, gardaí with assistance from the Divisional Armed Support Unit responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in Kilcruttin.
Two men, in their 30s and 40s, were conveyed from the scene and transferred to St. James's Hospital, Dublin for treatment of serious injuries.
Gardaí said they do not believe the injuries to be life-threatening at this time and that no other injuries were reported.
"The scene is currently preserved for examination by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit. No arrests have been made at this time,' a garda spokesperson said.
Investigating gardaí are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to these incidents to contact them.
Any road users who were in the Midlands Regional Hospital and Kilcruttin areas of Tullamore between 9:30pm and 10:30pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam footage) are asked to make this available to Gardaí.
