Howard secures All-American selection in track and field
The Howard University men's track and field team closed its 2025 outdoor campaign Wednesday night at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Oregon.
Graduate student Noah Langford of Virginia Beach, Virginia, led the Bison with a standout performance in the 400-meter hurdles semifinals. Langford posted a time of 50.50 seconds, falling short of qualifying for the final round but earning Second Team All-America honors. He became the first Howard men's long hurdler to earn All-America recognition since John Branch in 1989.
Baylor's Nathaniel Ezekiel recorded the top 400-meter hurdles time in the semifinals with an impressive 47.86 seconds.
Howard also competed in the 4×400-meter relay, featuring Langford, sophomore Emerson McKindra of Linden, New Jersey, and freshmen Cameron Brazell of Houston and Elijah Grant of Fort Mill, South Carolina. The team clocked in at 3:08.92, missing advancement but receiving honorable mention from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Arkansas led the 4×400-meter relay semifinals with a time of 3:02.53, narrowly edging out USC, which finished in 3:02.76.
Head coach David Oliver concluded his eighth season leading the Bison. Under his guidance, Howard secured runner-up finishes during both the indoor and outdoor track seasons.
Looking ahead, the Bison aim to build on this year's momentum as they prepare for the 2025–26 campaign with eyes set on conference championships.

HBCU Contender to Face DII Titan in Week Zero Classic
The stage is set. On August 30, 2025, at historic Legion Field, in Birmingham, Alabama, Clark Atlanta University will face DII powerhouse Valdosta State in the Week Zero Labor Day Classic. A game that should be circled on the calendars of all HBCU football fans. What makes this game even more electric? It's more than just football. The Week Zero Classic is a multi-day cultural celebration that includes celebrity flag football, live concerts, food festivals, and esports tournaments. And at the heart of it all is one of the most intriguing matchups of the 2025 season: an emerging HBCU contender versus one of Division II's most decorated programs. Just two years ago, Clark Atlanta University football was struggling, finishing the 21023 season winless at 0-10. But the hiring of head coach Teddy Keaton changed everything. Keaton, a proven program builder with previous stops at Stillman and Allen University, wasted no time flipping the culture. In 2024, Clark Atlanta shocked the conference with a 7–3-1 record and a trip to the SIAC Championship Game-their first in over a decade. The engine behind the Panthers' resurgence? FAMU grabs staff member from Deion Sanders at Colorado
HBCU Gameday has confirmed that Florida A&M University has made a major addition to its athletics department. Maurice "Mo" Sims has been named the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Wellness at FAMU, a move expected to bolster the health and development of student-athletes across all programs. Sims brings a wealth of experience from some of the nation's top athletic programs. Most recently, he served on Deion Sanders' staff at the University of Colorado as the head strength and conditioning coach. He originally joined Sanders at Jackson State in 2022, playing a pivotal role in developing a winning culture within the program. Before his time at JSU, Sims spent two seasons at the University of Georgia, where he was part of the Bulldogs' 2021 College Football National Championship-winning staff. His previous coaching stops include stints at the University of North Carolina (2019), Army West Point (2017–2019), Indiana University (2014–2015), and North Carolina A&T (2012–2014). At each institution, he contributed to the physical and mental preparation of athletes at the highest level of competition. Sims also has roots as a player. He was an all-conference defensive back at Concord University before transferring to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, giving him a firsthand understanding of the athlete experience and a unique perspective as a performance coach. He now steps into a senior leadership role at FAMU during a pivotal time for the Rattlers. The football team, led by second-year head coach James Colzie III, is seeking to build on recent momentum in the SWAC. Sims is currently participating in an offseason coaching fellowship with the NFL's Houston Texans, further strengthening his professional acumen. Colorado, under Sanders, wrapped up a 9-4 season in 2024 that ended with a 36-14 bowl loss to BYU. Since leaving Jackson State, Sanders has compiled a 13-12 record at CU.
