North West Ambulance Service underpaid paramedic
An ambulance trust has been ordered to give £6,000 to a paramedic, after an employment tribunal ruled he had been underpaid.Daniel Brackenbury worked as a paramedic for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) in Distington, near Workington, Cumbria.The tribunal heard Mr Brackenbury had been told his pay would increase after three months of temporarily taking on a more senior role, but a manager had later revoked the decision. An NWAS spokesperson said they accepted the tribunal's findings.
Documents from the tribunal showed Mr Brackenbury had worked for NWAS since July 2019.In January 2023, he started a "developmental post" as a senior paramedic team leader (SPTL), which was due to last three months, but subsequently extended.
'Contravention'
The tribunal heard the agreement was Mr Brackenbury would continue to work in his regular job with his usual pay - a band-six role - but he would regularly receive training and be asked to provide intermittent cover for the SPTL role, which was a pay band above his current role.Tribunal judge Jane Callan heard that it later became known that some other paramedics who had taken on a developmental role similar to Mr Brackenbury's were told they would be moved to the higher band wage after three months.A manager at the trust initially confirmed this to Mr Brackenbury, but later retracted the suggestion of a pay rise.In her decision, Judge Callan said the evidence showed Mr Brackenbury had "moved onto a vacant SPTL role" and was "substantially" fulfilling the duties of the higher band, rather than doing so intermittently, as had been agreed.She added: "He was undertaking the complete role on an unpaid basis, which was in contravention of the intention that individuals were not to undertake a complete role on that basis."The judge ordered NWAS to pay Mr Brackenbury £6,021.57, minus any National Insurance deductions.A NWAS spokesman said: "This was a complex issue, and we accept the tribunal's findings."

Joachim Herrman, Bavaria's Interior Minister, told Bild: "I am very grateful to the Munich police for their swift intervention and stopping the knife attacker. I was injured. Thanks to incredible neighbours who heard and saw what happened and acted, I got help. They called police, brought me to safety and ensured the incident was taken seriously. A gentleman does not abuse you and end up in jail and call you the love of his life. A gentleman does not blame you for his actions. A gentleman will confide in his partner, family and close circle of friends, keeping them close and safe. A gentleman chooses you always and leaves the past in the past - including exes. Life is to be lived together and not to please people who want to take advantage of you. At the end of the day, fame can only do so much - it's all about being strong and growing together. Life is simply not a reality TV show, life is real. I have tried to understand why. I have cried so many tears thinking about the way he chose to hurt me. He said he loved me and I believed him and here we are. There is now a legal record of what happened. Violence has no excuse - no matter how much love preceded it. To those who questioned me for staying as long as I did: I stayed because I believed in love. I believed he and we could grow, could heal, could choose peace. But love doesn't survive in chaos. And it cannot survive where violence lives. To every woman reading this: if you've ever questioned your worth, your safety or your sanity in a relationship - this is your sign. You deserved to be loved with care and integrity. And you are not alone. To the men: real strength is protection. Real love is safe. Be the kind of man who lifts women up - not one who breaks them down, neither by violence or silence. To the future: never say never. I will get the little family I've always dreamed of and have my dream wedding to symbolise and celebrate true love in front of my dear family and friends. I'm healing now. Police are currently appealing for witnesses after the woman reported the shocking attack in Kingsnorth Gardens in Folkestone, Kent. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up A 52-year-old male suspect was arrested and taken into custody - with officers seizing a knife and a quantity of drugs during this arrest. He was then later charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place and possession of cocaine. The suspect has been bailed in regards to the alleged sexual assault and will appear before Margate Magistrates' Court on Monday to face the other charges. Police say the victim suffered a facial injury in the alleged attack - with patrols attending the scene at the park. In a statement released on Saturday, Kent Police said: "Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a report of a serious sexual assault in Folkestone. "The incident happened in Kingsnorth Gardens at around 12.40pm on Friday 6 June 2025. "A woman stated she had been approached by a man she knew in the park. "She alleges she was then threatened with a weapon and raped. "The victim also suffered a facial injury. "Patrols attended the scene and an investigation was commenced."
