Coleen and Wayne Rooney's 'biggest test yet' amid stern warnings
Produced by the team behind Rooney and Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, the Disney+ show will give viewers full access to the couple and their sons – Kai, 15, Klay, 12, Kit, nine, and Cass, seven. And a source told OK! the couple, both 39, are 'up for conquering the world' with the series.
'They could be bigger than not just the Beckhams, but the Kardashians,' said the source. 'Obviously, Wayne's work as a manager hasn't gone as they'd have hoped, but they're seeing this as a new chapter. There's been so many rumours and so much drama around them, they're going to set the record straight on a few things too.'
Wayne was sacked from his role as Plymouth Argyle manager at the end of last year and is yet to sign another contract. His stint as a school-run dad could continue, as last month he reportedly turned down an offer to manage Macclesfield FC.
According to PR guru Dermot McNamara, their fee for the 10-part series will give their finances a significant boost, but it's not going to be without its potential pitfalls. 'This will be their biggest test yet because, even though they've been famous since they were teenagers, we haven't ever seen what their lives are really about,' he told OK!. 'People think making a reality show is easy, but it's not. It's going to be extremely intense for them.'
Dermot believes the reality show will reveal a different side to the pair. 'They're one of those couples who we think we know a lot about, but actually we don't,' he said. 'There's so much we don't know about them, like how they talk to each other, how they interact and relate to their families or how they parent. We're going to get a fresh perspective on who they are.'
While we got to see a dressed-down Coleen in the Australian jungle last year, our expert believes she was careful not to give too much away.
'Coleen's stint on I'm A Celebrity raised more questions than it answered because she let people in, but was still guarded,' he said. 'She didn't really address Wayne's past infidelities and a lot of viewers were left thinking, 'How do you actually live with being so publicly disrespected?'. She's sufffered a lot of heartache in the past. Now we're actually going to see how she does it.'
The childhood sweethearts first got a taste of fame after Wayne made his debut for Everton in 2002. A year later, he became the youngest ever England player, aged 17. Since then, Coleen has stuck by him through his troubled twenties, when he admitted to drinking until he'd 'almost pass out'. Sordid scandals, including Wayne's visits to sex workers and threesomes, have also hit the headlines.
During that time, the WAG managed to bank upwards of £15 million through exercise DVDs, books and clothing deals. Her appearance on I'm A Celeb , where she was runner-up, added a reported £1.5 million to the pot. But their reality show will bring them a lot more than cash, Dermot said.
'Just because you're famous and have a lot of money doesn't mean you're immune to bad press or irrelevance – every brand can tire, even the Rooney brand,' he said. 'Even with their family name, they need to remain relevant, otherwise Wayne would just be seen as a footballer from back in the day.'
David Beckham 's four-part docuseries, Beckham , was a good example of when a reality show pays off, Dermot added, explaining that the 2023 Netflix hit introduced 'brand Beckham' to a younger audience.
'We've seen 'brand Beckham' and we're seeing 'brand Rooney,'' says Dermot. 'They can do a show like this and not have it be quite as distorted by audiences as it would've been back in their early days. People are more mindful of mental health and duty of care. It's not the Wild West any more.'
Dermot also had a few words of advice for creating a hit.
'The Rooneys need to be authentic and real,' he added. 'They shouldn't try too hard to be seen as relatable. They became millionaires before they turned 18 and we know they live a life totally different to ours – and that's OK. They need to make sure they don't hide from that and don't be condescending to the audience.'

Dame Stella Rimington, the first female director general of MI5, has died
Dame Stella Rimington, who was the first female director general of MI5, has died, her family has announced. She died "surrounded by her beloved family and dogs and determinedly held on to the life she loved until her last breath". Dame Stella, who was also an author, was 90. She is widely credited as the inspiration for Dame Judi Dench's M in the James Bond films. Ms Rimington was appointed director general of MI5 in 1992, taking over the following year and holding the position until she retired from the service in 1996. As the first publicly-named "spymaster", she did much to bring the service out of the shadows and explain its role to the public, including releasing historical files to the National Archives. Her appointment - announced in a brief, two-line statement with no accompanying picture - caused a media sensation, not least because she was the first woman to head any of the agencies, for which she was ill-prepared. Born Stella Whitehouse in 1935 in South Norwood, south London, she attended Edinburgh University and married diplomat John Rimington in 1963. The couple moved to India two years later when he was posted to New Delhi, and soon after, she began her 29-year career in MI5. She worked in a variety of roles, "including counter-subversion and counter-terrorism", the agency said on its website. During her time as director general, "the service took on the lead role in the fight against Irish republican terrorism," it said. In 1993, MI5 published a short booklet which, for the first time, put some facts into the public domain, while she appeared alongside then home secretary Michael Howard in an official photocall to launch it. A further step towards greater openness followed when, despite much official hand-wringing, she was given permission to deliver the prestigious BBC Dimbleby lecture on the role of the security services in a democracy. She was made a dame in the 1996 New Year's Honours list. Five years after retiring, to the fury of many of her former colleagues, her autobiography, Open Secret, was published. She later wrote a number of novels set in the world of intelligence and counter-terrorism. This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly. Prince Andrew and Ex-Wife Sarah Ferguson Spotted for First Time Since Bombshell Book Claims
The former couple were seen driving near Windsor Castle just days after shocking claims about Andrew emerged in a new royal biographyNEED TO KNOW Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were seen together at Windsor just days after explosive allegations surfaced in a new royal biography Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by Andrew Lownie claims Andrew once got into a physical altercation with Prince Harry A spokesperson for Prince Harry has denied the allegations and confirmed legal action is underway over 'damaging and defamatory' remarksPrince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have been photographed for the first time since explosive allegations about the Duke of York emerged in a new royal biography. On Aug. 3, the former couple, both 65, were seen driving near their longtime home at Royal Lodge in Windsor, appearing pensive and somber. Andrew was behind the wheel with Fergie, as the Duchess of York is affectionately known, seated beside him as they headed toward nearby Windsor Castle for a walk. The former couple, who share daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, divorced in 1996 after a decade of marriage, but remain close. The outing comes just days after the Daily Mail published excerpts from Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by author Andrew Lownie. The bombshell biography paints a deeply unflattering portrait of Andrew — alleging everything from a violent altercation with Prince Harry to lurid behavior involving convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Among the most headline-making claims: the book alleges that Prince Andrew, 65, and Prince Harry, now 40, got into a heated argument at a family gathering in 2013 that escalated into a physical fight, leaving Andrew with a bloody nose. The excerpt also alleges that Andrew later insulted Meghan Markle behind the scenes, calling her an 'opportunist' and casting doubt on the longevity of the couple's marriage. In response, Prince Harry's spokesperson firmly denied both allegations. "I can confirm neither of those things are true. Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry," the spokesperson told PEOPLE. The Duke of Sussex's team added that legal action is underway "Such are the gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks made in the Daily Mail's story, I can confirm a legal letter from Prince Harry's counsel has been sent to the Mail," the spokesperson said. PEOPLE has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment. According to the excerpt, a "heated argument" between Prince Harry and Prince Andrew erupted at a family event in 2013 over "something Andrew said behind Harry's back." The tensions reportedly escalated to the point where 'punches were thrown' and Andrew sustained a bloody nose before the brawl was broken up. In another allegation, Entitled also alleges that Prince Andrew later questioned his nephew's relationship with Meghan, describing her as an "opportunist" and saying the marriage wouldn't last. Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York will be published on Aug. 14. A summary of the text said the book "exposes the secrets and scandals behind their extravagant lives and troubled marriage," chronicling his fall from grace in light of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. King Charles' younger brother took a seismic step back from working royal duties in November 2019 following a scrutinized interview with BBC's Newsnight about his alleged ties to the late convicted sex offender. In January 2022, the transition was made official when Queen Elizabeth stripped Prince Andrew of his military titles and patronages after he attempted to have Virginia Giuffre's sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed. The Duke of York has denied any wrongdoing and in February 2022, settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum. The Duchess of York has stood by her ex-husband's side through the turmoil and the former couple joined King Charles and other royal family members for church on Easter in April.
