Teesside rural bus service to increase frequency
A bus service connecting rural communities and an airport is to increase in frequency.Darlington Borough Council has handed extra funding for the 6/6A/6B service, which calls at Hurworth, Darlington town centre, Middleton St George, and Teesside Airport. The Stagecoach service will operate hourly on Sundays and its evening services to Hurworth, Middleton One Row and Middleton St George will return for the first time since 2011.Libby McCollom, the council's cabinet member for local services, said the service was a "lifeline for so many people".
The changes have been funded by Section 106 money from house builders to support services in areas impacted by new developments, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said. The Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) said in March that other services, including 17/18, 3/4, and 16 would also continue until March 2026. Tees Flex, which offers an on-demand service across Stockton, Darlington, Hartlepool and East Cleveland, was also extended and care leavers will be able to travel on buses for free until they are aged 25.
Steve Walker, managing director of Stagecoach North East, said: "This enhanced service will provide a valuable transport connection to some rural villages that have seen limited connection to the town centre in the last decade and will become a valuable asset for the residents."

Tributes paid to Britons feared killed in Air India plane crash
Tributes have been to Britons including a couple of wellness advocates and a family of three who are believed to be among more than 240 people who died after a Gatwick Airport-bound plane crashed in India. Air India confirmed 241 of the 242 people on board the Boeing 787 Dreamliner were killed on Thursday, in one of the deadliest plane crashes in terms of the number of British nationals killed. Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, who run a spiritual wellness centre, were said to be among the dead. The pair laughed and joked as they filmed a video of themselves at the airport before taking off. In an earlier Instagram post they told of their 'mind-blowing' trip to India and their intention to make a vlog about it. Mr Greenlaw is said to have appeared on ITV's This Morning earlier this year to talk about wellness. Former editor of the show Martin Frizell praised his 'vibrancy' and 'enthusiasm'. 'So so sad to hear that Fiongal Greenlaw Meek and his partner are reported to be among the passengers and crew killed today on board the Air India flight bound for Gatwick,' he said in an Instagram post. 'I remember his visit to the studio in January, he was passionate about auras and although I'm a sceptical sort his vibrancy and sheer enthusiasm won folk over. 'And I know for a fact that he hoped to use his appearance on This Morning to build his wellness brand, he had a great future ahead of him. 'Thoughts are with his family and friends and those of his partner Jamie.' The Greenlaw-Meeks were running the Wellness Foundry in London, which offers psychic readings, tarot, reiki and yoga. The firm is included in Time Out's top places in the capital for tarot readings. The Wellness Foundry also has a podcast called Spirit Level, which the website says is a 'guiding light on the journey to holistic well-being and spiritual enlightenment'. The Gloucester Muslim Community group offered 'sincere and deepest condolences' after Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa and their daughter Sara were reported to be among the victims. 'During this moment of overwhelming sorrow, our hearts go out to all those left behind,' a statement said. 'No words can truly ease the pain of such a profound loss, but we pray that the family may find solace in the tremendous outpouring of compassion and solidarity from communities across the world.' Raj Mishra, the mayor of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, called for people to come together as he announced the deaths of three people from his community. 'Among those lost were Raxa Modha, infant Rudra Modha, and Ms K Mistri, all from our Wellingborough community,' he said. 'I extend my deepest condolences to their families, friends and all those affected by this heartbreaking event. 'May their memories be a blessing, and may we come together to support one another in this time of grief.' Briton Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, is believed to be the only survivor of the crash. Speaking outside the family home in Leicester, his brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, 27, said: 'We were just shocked as soon as we heard it. 'I last spoke to him yesterday morning. We're devastated, just devastated. 'He said, 'I have no idea how I exited the plane'.' Mr Ramesh's older brother Ajay was also aboard the flight. Another of Mr Ramesh's relatives, Jay, said the survivor spoke to his father after the crash and asked after his brother.

Mark Wright forced to apologise for 'tasteless' Instagram post in wake of Air India plane crash
Mark Wright has issued a public apology after sharing a post about his flight home from a lavish holiday with wife Michelle Keegan just hours after the fatal Air India plane crash today. Mark Wright has apologised for sharing a post that has been deemed as "inappropriate" in the wake of the Air India plane crash earlier today. The former TOWIE star has since deleted the post, saying in a statement on his Instagram stories that it had been a "horrendous coincidence". Mark, 38, and wife Michelle Keegan, 38, have been enjoying a holiday in Spain and sharing numerous updates from their trip with their fans. The couple, who became parents earlier this year, took their three-month old daughter Palma abroad for the first time with them on a family trip. The family are understood to have returned to the UK earlier today and Mark is said to have shared a snap of the trio in front of a private jet at an airport. He reportedly teased over having limited leg room on standard flights in the post. However, the Heart Radio host was hit with fierce backlash over the post amid the tragic news of the Air India flight, which crashed shortly after take off from Ahmedabad, the Mirror reports. The aircraft had been set to land at Gatwick Airport in London. Mark has since issued a sincere apology for his "mistake", explaining to fans that he had scheduled the post, which has now been deleted, in advance. He shared a statement on his Instagram story as he insisted it had been a "horrendous coincidence". He wrote: "I apologise for a post I just put up on my page after today's heartbreaking events. I have posts from a holiday that are on the scheduled setting, which go out on future days I have set them for which was done last week." He added in the message to his followers this evening: "It's a horrendous coincidence that today's post was on such a devastating day. Once I logged in to my Instagram and realised the post had gone out, I immediately deleted [it]. "My heart goes out to everyone who has been effected from today. I'm sorry for this mistake and any offence caused." According to the Sun, Mark had teased over not having extra leg room on the flight home from his holiday with Michelle and their daughter in the poorly timed post. Seemingly teasing over them not travelling on a private aircraft he's said to have written: "1 day babe, for now we'll take row 26 with no extra leg room." The outlet reports that some of his followers were quick to question the timing of the post given the news of the Air India flight. Another is quoted as having said: "Prob not the best day to post this when so many people lost their lives on a plane."
