Durban dance duo wins inaugural ‘Ballito's Talent' competition

The Citizen6 days ago
The first-ever 'Ballito's Talent' finale lit up the Lyric Lounge Theatre on Saturday, as 25 finalists wowed a packed crowd in a bid for top honours.
Open to all ages and residents of KZN, the competition drew over 70 participants throughout its various stages. From singers and dancers to instrumentalists, the talent on display was diverse and impressive.
Taking home the title honours were dynamic dancing duo Jesse (15) and Tristan Koen (10) from Durban. Their performance fused hip-hop, classic Sophiatown-inspired moves and breakdancing into an electrifying routine that impressed both judges and audience alike.
Second place went to musician Menzi Mngoma (32) from Richards Bay.
Third place was bagged by Ballito's very own Cousin Quartet – made up of Umhlali Preparatory School pupils Emily Wang (13), Molly Wang (10), Willow Paterson (10) and Savannah Paterson (13). The cousins and best friends earned a golden buzzer during their third audition and impressed the crowd on finals night with a vibrant medley of songs from Matilda, showcasing both their singing and dancing talents.
A portion of the proceeds from the audition and finals ticket sales, as well as contestant entry fees, will be donated to Bloom Special Needs School.
The show was the brainchild of Ballito residents Bev Mileham and Adriana Carvalhaes. With the help of Jordyn Morrows, the trio delivered a memorable event that celebrated local talent and community spirit.
They thanked all the sponsors who made the event possible.

Devastating news for 'Uzalo' viewers as uncertainty grips the show

The future of SABC1's flagship show Uzalo is hanging in the balance, as production has been paused due to financial constraints. In a shocking development, production on South Africa's beloved soapie Uzalo has come to a complete standstill. Following this, Stained Glass TV issued a memo to cast and crew announcing an immediate production pause. According to the memorandum, cash flow problems have, in turn, forced the award-winning soapie to press pause on filming. 'We regret to inform you that, due to severe cash flow constraints, we are compelled to pause production with immediate effect.' 'Please know that we are actively engaging with the SABC to resolve the matter as swiftly as possible. We understand the impact this has on each of you and remain committed to keeping you informed as the situation develops,' reads the memo. In their official memorandum, the producers expressed deep regret and assured the team they're working tirelessly to find a solution. 'Your contributions continue to inspire us, and we are doing everything in our power to get back on track.' The announcement has sent shockwaves, with fans, actors, and crew left wondering what the future holds. Interestingly, this news comes shortly after Uzalo celebrated major wins at the 12th Annual Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards on July 19. Former Uzalo actor Andile Zamokuhle Mtambo scooped Best Newcomer Actor and Best Supporting Actor for his role as Mselomanzi. Meanwhile, Uzalo actress Duduzile Ngcobo also walked away with honours, winning Best Supporting Actress in TV for her powerful performance. Coco speaks out on her fallout with Nozipho Ntshangase

Former The Mommy Club star Nozipho Ntshangase's stepdaughter, Coco, is trending after dropping explosive details about her strained relationship with her. Coco left tongues wagging after taking to Instagram to post a selfie with her new stepmother, Misokuhle. The 25 year old recently married her father, Zola Ntshangase in a stunning traditional and white wedding. On The Mommy Club , Nozipho opened up about how deeply hurt she was by Zola's decision to take a second wife. She shared that she didn't support the idea of a polygamous marriage and chose to walk away. Coco's post sparked harsh criticism from former Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) star Ameigh Thompson, who appeared to suggest that you can't change a child you didn't birth. The remark didn't sit well with Coco, who has since released a statement addressing Thompson's comments. She further opened up about her complex relationship with her stepmother. Coco shared that she moved in with Nozipho in 2023, but their dynamic has since changed. 'Regarding my relationship with Mama (Nozipho), things have changed. The last time we spoke was when I told her I'll be attending the wedding, and after that, there was silence.' Coco stated their father didn't suddenly decide to marry again but they were misled, but now they know the truth. She hinted that certain details were hidden and implied that the whole story is not yet public knowledge. She believes that one day, her brothers will also speak out and share their side of the story. Coco said attending her father's wedding to Misokuhle was entirely their decision; no one forced them. She said they chose to attend the wedding because they genuinely wanted to support their father. 'We went because we love our father deeply and genuinely wanted to support hmi, during this time. It wasn't about choosing sides, it was about showing love to our parents, simply,' she said. DO YOU THINK COCO WAS WRONG FOR SHARING THE SELFIE?
