Operation Shield: Civil defence mock drill postponed in Gujarat
A statement released by Gujarat Information Department read, 'It is hereby intimated that the Civil Defence Exercise 'Operation Shield', which was planned to be held on May 29, 2025, is hereby postponed due to administrative reasons. It is requested that necessary directions to all the Controllers of Civil Defence and other stakeholders, may be issued accordingly. Next dates for the exercise shall be issued subsequently.'
Additionally, the civil defence exercise has also been postponed in Rajasthan and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Earlier on Wednesday, as per the orders from the Government of India and under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, a civil defence exercise was scheduled to be conducted in Gujarat on Thursday at 5:00 PM.
Regarding Operation Shield mock drill, Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department (Gujarat), Jayanti Ravi, on Wednesday, virtually reviewed preparations made by the district administration. Along with this, she also gave necessary instructions to all the District Collectors for successful implementation of mock drill.
Further, Jayanti Ravi said that during this exercise, various actions like ensuring the readiness of the local administration regarding civil security; taking the services of young volunteers like NCC, NSS, Bharat Scout and Guide; setting up a hotline between the Air Force and the Civil Security Control Room regarding enemy aircraft and missile attacks; activating the air raid siren; ensuring complete darkness and ensuring public safety and their property will be taken.
Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation was a retaliatory response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including one Nepalese national. (ANI)

On July 1, the Bihar cabinet sanctioned `882.87 crore for the integrated development of the temple premises. Out of this, `137 crore is for the renovation of the existing temple and its surroundings, `728 crore for tourism-related infrastructure and `16 crore for a decade of comprehensive maintenance. At another cabinet meeting on July 29, a revised estimate of `165.57 crore was also cleared for the acquisition of an additional 50 acres, beyond the 17 acres currently available at Punaura Dham temple premises. The new land will be used for developing tourism infrastructure and related facilities.

India in talks with China for resumption of trade via 3 border passes ahead of Modi's SCO visit
'However, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, trade through all these points was disrupted, and has not resumed since. The Government of India has engaged with the Chinese side to facilitate the resumption of border trade through all these trade routes,' Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs informed the Council of States in response to a question. Trade between India and China through these border posts, which was first disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and subsequently due to the chill in diplomatic ties, is yet to be resumed. The two countries have maintained designated markets for trade at the border since 1991, when New Delhi and Beijing signed a protocol for the resumption of trade through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand. New Delhi: India is engaging with China to 'facilitate' the resumption of border trade through the Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand), Shipki La Pass (Himachal Pradesh) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim), the Rajya Sabha was informed Thursday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to travel to the country at the end of August. Trade between India and China through the Lipulekh Pass had remained closed from 1962, following the war between the two countries until 1991. However, following the 2019 season, the posts were closed during the pandemic. The border posts have remained closed since. In the summer months of 2020, military clashes broke out in Galwan between India and China. Diplomatic ties between New Delhi and Beijing cratered following the clashes. At one point, India deployed almost 68,000 additional troops, along with military equipment, to the friction points in Eastern Ladakh as ties remained tense. However, on 21 October, 2024, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had announced that both countries had arrived at an agreement for disengagement at the friction points along the Line of Actual Control. This agreement had set the stage for a bilateral meeting between Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the margins of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan a few days later. Since the meeting, both India and China have agreed to a number of confidence-building measures to stabilise ties. China allowed the resumption of the Kailash Mansarova Yatra through the Lipulekh Pass earlier this year, while India has started issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals since 24 July. Technical teams from the two countries are currently negotiating an agreement to allow for the resumption of direct passenger flights between India and China, which have remained paused since the pandemic. Why only Air India?: SC rejects PIL seeking independent safety audit of airline
New Delhi [India], August 8 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea for the constitution of a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to audit Air India's safety practices and maintenance procedures independently. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi questioned the petitioner why he was singling out Air India. 'Why just Air India? What about others?" they asked while rejecting the petition. That plea was filed in the wake of a recent crash of an Air India Boeing aircraft operating on the Ahmedabad – London route, which claimed 270 lives. The PIL was filed by Narendra Kumar Goswami and Laxman Prasad Goswami seeking an independent probe by a retired judge of the Supreme Court into Air India's safety practices, maintenance procedures, and operational protocols. The petition also asked for a comprehensive safety audit of Air India's entire fleet by an international aviation safety agency accredited by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), addressing deficiencies identified in the 2024 ICAO audit report. It further sought a time-bound report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) regarding the Ahmedabad plane crash. (ANI)
