Kolkata: In a blistering attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government , union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the 2026 Assembly election in the state is not just about development but is closely tied to the country's safety and security. Shah accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of promoting infiltration and vote-bank politics, calling recent violence in Murshidabad "state-sponsored riots.""West Bengal's election is not only about development; it's about national security. Didi's politics and blessings have encouraged infiltration," Shah said while addressing the Vijay Sankalp Karyakarta Sammelan in Kolkata, kicking off BJP's 2026 Assembly poll campaign. He accused the TMC government of deliberately stalling border fencing efforts. "Trinamool MPs ask what BSF is doing about infiltration. We've been requesting land for fencing. Give us the land, and we'll ensure not even a bird enters Bengal," he said.Shah claimed Banerjee's motives are political: "You purposely don't give land because you want infiltration to continue and your vote bank to grow. You want your nephew to become the next Chief Minister-we won't let that happen."Referring to the recent visit of prime minister Narendra Modi to Alipurduar, Shah said, "After years of Left rule, Mamata Didi took charge. But she turned the sacred land of Bengal into a hub of infiltration, corruption, attacks on Hindus, and violence against women. Post-poll violence continues under Trinamool-something unseen in the rest of the country." "Your time is up, Didi," Shah declared. "In 2026, BJP will form the government, and those behind the killings of BJP workers will be held accountable."

A sub-inspector with the Madhya Pradesh Police has been removed from active duty and attached to police lines after a video surfaced showing him instructing a gym owner to prohibit people from the Muslim community from entering the premises. According to police sources, a group of people had raised objection to the presence of Muslim trainers at the gym in Bhopal's Ayodhya Nagar locality. Police personnel, including SI Dinesh Sharma, were subsequently called to the spot to manage the situation. In the video, Sharma is purportedly heard saying that Muslims should not 'come here to give or take training'. The video sparked outrage, prompting an internal inquiry into Sharma's conduct. He was subsequently removed from field duty and sent to the police lines pending further investigation. A senior police officer said Sharma had been deployed to maintain order after members of a right-wing group arrived at the gym. 'The SI had reached the spot because the members of the pro-Hindutva organisations turned up, and his presence was necessary to maintain law and order. We are investigating the allegations. Right now, he has been sent to police lines.' Following the incident, BJP MP from Bhopal, Alok Sharma, told the media on Sunday that a 'list of gym instructors' in the city had been compiled, and insisted that women clients should be trained only by women instructors. 'The list of gym trainers will be handed over to the police, who will act according to the law,' he said. Congress MLA Arif Masood criticised the move, questioning the rationale behind targeting gym professionals based on religion. 'Is running a gym now a crime? If it's being run following rules, then what is the problem?' he asked. Right-wing groups' opposition to Muslim trainers has not been confined to Bhopal. Similar actions have been reported in Indore as well. The campaign gathered momentum following the arrest of Mohsin Khan, a shooting coach accused of operating an unlicensed academy and allegedly involved in cases of rape and molestation.

CM Fadnavis pays tribute to Gopinath Munde on his 11th death anniversary
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday paid a tribute to the veteran BJP leader and former union minister Gopinath Munde on his 11th death anniversary. In his post on X, he said, "Humble tributes to the people's leader, a statesman who dedicated his political life to the cause of social welfare, our guide and inspiration, Gopinathrao Ji Munde on his Smruti Din." "I pay tribute to a leader who strived for the rights and interests of the downtrodden and affected people, fought for the rights of Bahujan Samaj and Other Backward Classes, forced the then government to announce a farm loan waiver after organising statewide morcha, relentlessly fought to get relief to the Godavari flood-affected people from Marathwada, took out Sangharsh Yatra to flag off the criminalisation of politics in Maharashtra,' said the Chief Minister, uploading a video in his post. The state unit chief and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule also paid tribute to Munde. The state BJP in its post on X said, "Tribute to a senior party leader, guide and an inspiration for many workers." Munde was credited with spreading the BJP's wings across Maharashtra and changing its image of a party dominated by the upper class and traders. It was Munde, who was picked up by the veteran BJP leader late Vasantrao Bhagwat, who travelled across Maharashtra in 1980s, that helped the party tremendously increase its presence in the state. Munde carved his place in the party with his hard work, will and massive grassroots-level support. Munde began his career in state politics by joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, and after joining the BJP, he travelled to villages and hamlets for the party's consolidation. Munde and his brother-in-law, Pramod Mahajan, were termed in the party circles as 'Ram-Laxman', who transformed the party's image and made it a force to reckon with, especially during the Congress-dominated politics. Munde started his electoral politics from Beed, where he became a zilla parishad member in 1978. Later, he became a legislator from Renapur constituency, Deputy Chief Minister in the Shiv Sena-BJP government during 1995 and 1999, later MP from Beed constituency and Union Minister. He hogged headlines for confronting former Chief Minister Sharad Pawar and targeting the Congress-led government on "criminalisation" of politics. Mumbai civic body cancels order of Turkish lifebuoys to be deployed at 6 beaches
The Mumbai civic body has scrapped its plan to procure Turkey-made robotic lifebuoys for deployment across half-a-dozen beaches, officials said, a move coming in the backdrop of Ankara facing backlash in India for supporting remotely-operated rescue machines, designed to assist lifeguards in saving people from drowning, were to be deployed at Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Aksa and Gorai beaches, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani replied in the affirmative when asked if the civic body had scrapped the plan to procure robotic lifebuoys manufactured in Turkey. Each unit of the machine was equipped with dual water jets, a 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery, and had the capacity to carry up to 200 kg. It could travel 800 metres into the sea at speeds of up to 18 km/h and operate for about an hour, as per civic body faced strong criticism from political parties for the deal after Turkey extended diplomatic and military support to Islamabad during last month's military confrontation between India and leaders, including of the ruling BJP and its ally Shiv Sena, had questioned the procurement of the equipment from foreign suppliers instead of promoting indigenous open support to Pakistan in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, triggered broader domestic calls for a boycott of goods made in the Eurasian Watch
