'The Righteous Gemstones' Season 4, Episode 4 recap: Edi Patterson, Tony Cavalero give performances of a lifetime
From the beginning to the end of the episode, let's just say that we get a more intimate look at a few of our characters. But we also see a significant shift for Tim Baltz's BJ, in the aftermath of his pole dancing accident.
SPOILERS FOR THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES SEASON 4, EPISODE 4 INCLUDED BEYOND THIS POINT
If you thought Baby Billy (Walton Goggins) really exposed himself earlier this season, Episode 4 takes it to another level, with the episode starting as Baby Billy is waterskiing naked, looking like he's having the time of his life.
That's our introduction to Galilee Gulch, the Gemstone family's lake house, with the Gemstones and the Milsap set to have some fun together.
But this isn't just a family and friends lake house visit. Jesse (Danny McBridge), Judy (Edi Patterson) and Kelvin (Adam Devine) are hoping when Eli (John Goodman) gets to the house, which he hasn't been to since Aimee-Leigh's (Jennifer Nettles) death, it will "throw him off his game," ending his relationship with Lori (Megan Mullally).
Corey (Seann William Scott) isn't as upset about Eli and Lori hooking up anymore, telling Jesse that he thought his mom was still dating "Big Dick Mitch," the car salesman at the Mercedes-Benz dealership, and Eli seems like a better fit for his mom, who's been unlucky in love. It doesn't take long for the Gemstone kids to bring that up more publicly, but it actually brings Eli and Lori closer together, officially "going steady."
Meanwhile for BJ he's facing the harsh reality that the Gemstone vacation home is not accessible, now that he's in a wheelchair. Unlike what we've seen in the series so far, BJ is at a place where he's particularly upset and cynical, trying to cope with his injury. But even a bowl full of pool snacks that aren't to his liking will make him angry.
"A completely different dimension that I got to live in [with] the character, ... specifically when he's throwing the snacks and he's mad. That was kind of ... the angriest that he'd been in the whole series," Tim Baltz said. "And I found that was very interesting to have him reach a certain breaking point and go past it."
"And the reactions that everyone had to him all of a sudden being angry, where he's been very restrained for all these years, [it] was very fun to explore that."
So how do the Gemstone kids make Eli and Lori as uncomfortable as possible? Of course, they turn to song, singing a little tune they titled "Mama's Here."
"Mama always loved her daughter and didn't want anyone else in the house that daddy loved more than her," Judy sings.
"She's watching everyone in the room, seeing the choices other have made and wondering, 'Why?'" Jesse sings in the next line.
When they finish, Lori says she liked the song, as she scratches her cheek with her middle finger facing Jesse, Judy and Kelvin.
But Judy has had it with Lori and she says it's time to "turn a bitch out."
It's an evolution in how Judy tries to get Lori to leave. First she's flirty, then she tries to write Lori a blank cheque for $500,000, and then that escalates to Judy trying to set up a scenario where Lori is inappropriately touching her. But Lori sees right through it. She says that's how Judy acted when her mom got sick, and now it's because of BJ's injury.
This is such a phenomenal scene, with both actors being absolutely exceptional, hysterical, but also giving us a pretty sad moment for Judy.
"It's a rollercoaster ride of emotions and actions, and it's pretty crazy and wild," Edi Patterson said about this scene. "And it was really exciting to do it because we started filming it, and we started kind of feeling it, and Danny directed that episode. And I don't know if this is what he had envisioned initially, or if this happened in the moment, ... he decided to do it all with a Steadicam and just kind of follow us."
"It's one action-filled moment. We weren't doing cuts within that. And I think that fed it so much and just made it feel like a real, very awkward and weird moment. And then I feel like, at the end, it gets so genuinely sad. ... That's one of my favourite scenes that I did this season, and it was just a blast."
After those failed attempts at intimidation, Kelvin and Keefe tuck into bed, but Keefe can see that Kelvin is particularly upset. When Keefe asks if there's anything he can do, Kelvin responds by saying, "not unless you can bring my momma back from the dead."
Be careful what you wish for. Because the lake house is still filled with Aimee-Leigh's clothes and accessories, like her signature glasses. And Keefe decides to dress like Aimee-Leigh, sneak into Eli's bedroom, where he's sleeping with Lori, and pretend to be Aimee-Leigh's ghost, telling him to break up with Lori. And then he starts singing "Misbehavin."
When Eli and Lori wake up they scream, Keefe runs out, but he's faced with Baby Billy and Tiffany's nanny for their two kids, Sola, who starts beating up Keefe.
"It honestly makes me want to cry. When you open up a script and you get a gift like that, coming from a sketch comedy background, I'm just like, 'Oh my God,'" Tony Cavalero said. "I remember, literally, I think I screamed into the other room to my wife like, 'I'm going to be dressed up and I basically assault John Goodman!'"
Eli is sick and tired of his kids trying to run Lori out of his life, getting angrier than we've ever seen him. Even telling Jesse's wife Amber (Cassidy Freeman) to "shut the f**k up."
"When the stakes get higher, the lines get crossed even further," Cassidy Freeman said about that moment. "Think of how many times we had to film it and how many times I had to take that in."
"He finally treated me like one of his children. So I think even in the moment, she was surprised, I think she went home and was kind of stoked. I've arrived."
In all honesty, Eli is having trouble separating himself from his old memories with Aimee-Leigh and his kids at the lake house, but it's time for the trip to come to an end.
As Jesse, Kelvin and Keefe are getting ready to leave, Jesse says they need to apologize to their dad, with Judy saying they'll never be able to stop Eli from leaving their mom's memory behind if they're in a fight.
With the Gemstone kids walking to his room, feeling proud of themselves for deciding to apologize, Judy opens the door and they see Eli and Lori 69-ing. Naturally, that sends Jesse, Judy and Kelvin running out disgusted.
When Eli leaves the room, he tells his kids he'll never forget about their mother (as he picks a strand of pubic hair from his teeth). But then Judy says, "Daddy. Your dick is leaking pre-cum and it's leaving a spot on your pants," with Jesse, Judy and Kelvin yelling, "daddy came!"
Now the Gemstone kids are even more disgusted. And we reach the end of the episode with no resolution to this conflict.

Sardinia Holiday Photos of Max Verstappen With Toto Wolff Go Viral
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Red Bull Racing Formula One driver Max Verstappen has been reportedly pictured with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, holidaying on the Mercedes chief's yacht off the coast of Sardinia. The images posted by Autosprint on Wednesday have been going viral on social media. As F1 enjoys the summer break, drivers and team principals take time off from the hectic 24-race schedule, staying away from the world of premier class racing. However, Wolff potentially spending the holiday with the four-time world champion has caused a row. The Italian publication posted that Verstappen was a guest on Wolff's yacht. In addition, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was also spotted by fans in Sardinia. The post read: "What do Formula 1 drivers do when they're on vacation? This is a question many ask, and for three of them, we have a definitive and concrete answer. Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing arrives by boat prior to practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Monaco at Circuit de Monaco on May 23, 2025 in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing arrives by boat prior to practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Monaco at Circuit de Monaco on May 23, 2025 in Monte-Carlo, Monaco."Toto Wolff and Max Verstappen met in Cala di Volpe, Sardinia, on the Austrian's yacht, where the four-time Dutch world champion was a guest. "Max has renewed his commitment to Red Bull for 2026, but it's hard to believe Wolff has given up on his plan to bring the Dutch driver to Mercedes. Just as it's easy to imagine Verstappen is keeping several options open for 2027. "And that Sardinian pier was also frequented by Charles Leclerc: the Ferrari driver appeared relaxed and very willing to take some photos with the fans present. "Even with the engines off, F1 can be very hot... " [Translated by Google] The images appear to be unusually blurry, especially Wolff's face, which is not entirely clear, which gave rise to the suspicion that they could be AI-generated. However, Planet F1 has confirmed that the photos are genuine, stating that the "images are authentic and that Verstappen did visit Wolff's yacht while both men are holidaying in Sardinia." While speculation about Verstappen's potential move to Mercedes died down during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, the holiday photos with Wolff could bring up the topic of his Red Bull exit again. Related: Guenther Steiner Exposes Max Verstappen's Plan for Multi-Year Mercedes Contract George Russell revealed in June that Mercedes was in talks with Verstappen for a future signing. The British driver's contract, which expires at the end of 2025, is yet to be renewed by Mercedes. He revealed ahead of the summer break that he would use the much-needed holiday to rejuvenate, given the recent tensions surrounding his contract extension, for which he has been waiting for 12 months. Russell said: "He [Toto Wolff] has got nothing to be worried about, I've got nothing to be worried about. Nothing is going to happen over the summer because I just want to have a rest and recharge and come back stronger for the second half of the year but there's no time pressure either way. "It will happen when it happens, it's a when not if. I'm 27 now, I've been with the team four years, next year would be my fifth and we want to build the relationship together but it's got to be right and I don't want to rush it. I've been waiting 12 months, I'm not going to just rush it in the course of two weeks so we'll sit down when the time is right."

Here Are (Some Of) The Best Artist Shirts Available Now
2025 has been a good year for music – not just for the various standout releases we've been blessed with like Little Simz'sLotus, Kevin Absract'sBlushand Jim Legxacy's recentblack british music, but for the conversations sparked at cultural intersections from Kendrick'shalftime showto Beyonce's best album double at theGrammys, too. We've seen Clipse get back to together anddebuta song at Louis Vuitton's Paris Fashion Week show, instant-classic Tiny Desk Concerts from the likes ofDoechiiandBad Bunny, andVybz Kartelis back like he never left. As artists continue to adapt to an ever-evolving industry while navigating the rise of AI, unfavorable streaming contracts and other challenges, tried-and-true revenue streams are making a comeback – namely, tours and merch. In an increasingly digital era, artists and fans alike want a better connection to each other and tangible experiences and merchandise carry more weight than ever. FromBritney x BalenciagaandIce Spice x Mercedes-Benz, to label-made official merch from the likes of UMG'sBravado, it's a good time to be a fan. Because let's be honest, anyone can hit 'Follow' – but are you even a fan if you don't have the t-shirt?! We've rounded up some of favorite pieces of band merch – check them out below in alphabetical order now. Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph's – aka21 Savage– Wikipedia page describes him as a 'British rapper based in the United States.' But while the rapper might have been born in London, he was most definitely ATL-raised – and just in case you needed a reminder, the merch for hisAmerican Dream Tourincludes a t-shirt emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes behind a portrait of the artist staring you Aminé's13 Months of Sunshineliterally sounded like summertime – and it's that same sentiment that guides the album's solo graphic offering. 'Spring, Aminé, Fall, Winter' lands in black, all-caps lettering on a white tee and white tank-top, with a special edition landing for the rapper's one-night-only Brooklyn performance earlier this summer; that one includes an additional graphic on the backside to commemorate the Bad Bunnyis on a roll. His 30-night Puerto Rico residency is projected togenerate over $200 million USDin economic impact – and the accompanying merch is pretty cool The best part aboutBillie Eilish'smerch is that each piece looks like something the singer would actually wear. Eilish loves an oversized jersey, so the leadHit Me Hard And Softdelivery – a silver-hued football jersey – is perfect. Design wise, Eilish's face fronts the jersey, with additional patch-like graphics on the arms and her signatureblohshicon on the back. Another notable piece from the album's merch drop is the layered tour tee, complete with a camouflage long-sleeve underneath a black graphic tee with the tour's dates listed on the backside. (By the way, while we're talking Billie, checkthisout.)Shophere. Blink 182have been rocking since 1992, but found mainstream success in the early 2000s with their catchy pop-punk sound, irreverent humor, and era-defining anthems like 'All the Small Things' and 'What's My Age Again?'. Even if you aren't the biggest Blink fan, there's a good chance you know a word or two from one of their songs – like the eternally relatable line 'work sucks, I know' from their1999 hit single ATSM(sorry, boss… if you're reading this). Well, now you can get it on a t-shirt! And if you consider yourself an OG fan of the band, they've released a tee with the album art from 1995'sCheshire Cat(arguably one of their best).Shophere. Salmon was the color of choice forBon Iver'sSABLE, fABLE, engulfing the album cover and appearing in all of the project's promotional material, static visuals, and external collaborations. Since an all-salmon shirt might be a bit much for some, Justin Vernon made the color a bit more subtle in the album's lead merch, focusing instead on the best part of the album: his lyricism. There is a salmon-colored outline of Vernon in the middle of the long-sleeve T-shirt, but the highlight of the design is the lyrics 'There's a Rythmn' scribbled on the arms and down the Oops… he did it again. With his final collection for Balenciaga,Denma Gvasaliachanneled his inner '90s with this oversized Britney t-shirt. Is there anything more 2025 than aBritney Spears and Balenciagacollab?Shophere. This wasn't something we saw coming, but we're here for it. Thethree-way collabbetween hip-hop OGs Parappa the Rapper and De La Soul, together with Japanese brand WIND AND SEA, has resulted in some of the most wearable band merch we've seen. The collection is quite large – with everything from jackets to pants – but a stand-out for is this long-sleece Death Row Recordsneeds no introduction. Suge Knight's former label – nowownedby Snoop – is behind some of the most iconic rap records of the 1990s, including several of Tupac's. Perfect for fans of the label – past or While unfortunately sold out at the moment onDoechii'sofficial site, we had to include theAlligator Bites Never Healrugby tee, which features an album crest on the chest and an alligator graphic on the back. From an iced-out CLA to a selection of tees and jerseys, these three pieces stood out for Jamiroquai'scelebrating the 20th anniversary of his iconic albumDynamitethis year. The car-obsessed Londoner is keeping it simple with the merch, though: together the Jamiroquai logo, his unmistakable 'Buffalo Man' character graces an all-black t-shirt and a zip-up The Buick GNX has been a key motif throughoutKendrick Lamar'sGNXalbum as well as its accompanying Grand National Tour with SZA. This theme is instilled more literally in the tour's graphic tees, one of which takes a retro feel with a graffiti-esque GNX graphic and 'Gloria' on top. Elsewhere, a mechanic's work shirt is emulated with 'Gloria Auto Repair and Auto Body Inc.' on one side of the chest and a vintage patch on the other. Additional retro lettering lands on the back of the pastel blue silhouette, Kevin Abstract'ssharp creative direction extends all the way to his graphic tees – and while we don't yet have merch forBlush, we do have quite the selection fromBlanketas well as a standout cobalt blueARIZONA BABYtee. Some ofBlanket's graphics take cues from the tracklist, while others feature the Texas flag (in homage to Abstract's Houston hometown.)Shophere. Kid Cudi'sINSANOvisuals all reveled in vibrant hues, and the accompanying merch followed suit. No stranger to design and creative direction, it's clear Cudi's merch comes from no amateur, with theINSANOgo-around carried by a pair of bright blue and pink crewnecks, imbued with a colorful face graphic in the middle atopINSANOin lime green and lyrics printed along the sleeves and Lil Wayne'ssixthThe Carteralbum dropped in June, along with a world-exclusive merchpop-up in London. Their 'Hot Lips' logo, created by English art designer John Pasche in 1971, is about as iconic as it gets for band logos – and it has found its way onto these t-shirts from the band's collaboration with Slipknot'smerch is unrivalled. The band has been celebrating the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut studio album for the past year, with its cover art and song lyrics song inspiring theirrecent collabwith PLEASURES. Released in February 1995, it is a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther who raised him as a single parent struggling with poverty and her own personal demons – namely, an addition to crack cocaine. In 2010, the Library of Congress selectedDear Mamafor preservation in the National Recording Registry, making one of his then already most iconic and emotionally resonant tracks a permanent part of U.S. history. In the song, Tupac raps honestly about his mother's problems with drugs – 'And even as a crack fiend, Mama, You always was a black queen, Mama, I finally understand, For a woman it ain't easy tryin' to raise a man' – lyrics that have become cultural touchstones.
