Jennifer Aniston's heartbreaking Matthew Perry confession

Jennifer Aniston made a rare admission about her late Friends co-star, Matthew Perry.
The actress explained in a Vanity Fair interview, published today, that she and fellow cast members — including Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc — 'did everything [they] could' for Perry during his addiction struggles.
'It almost felt like we'd been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight,' Aniston, 56, noted.
In a heartbreaking confession, the Golden Globe winner added, 'As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there's a part of me that thinks this is better.'
Aniston clarified that she is 'glad' Perry, who died in October 2023 at age 54, is 'out of that pain.'
When the actor passed from a ketamine overdose, Aniston penned a touching tribute via Instagram.
'Matty, I love you so much and I know you are now completely at peace and out of any pain,' the star wrote at the time, in part. 'I talk to you every day … sometimes I can almost hear you saying 'could you BE any crazier?''
In her first interview following Perry's shock death, Aniston spoke about how 'happy' and 'healthy' her 'funny' friend had been in his final days — even revealing they had been texting that morning.
'He was not in pain. He wasn't struggling,' she recalled in December 2023. 'He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard.'
In August 2024, five individuals were charged with Perry's death, including two doctors who recently pleaded guilty to distributing ketamine.
Perry had long battled addiction, which he referred to in his 2022 memoir title as the Big Terrible Thing.
Perry estimated that he had spent '$9 million or something [on] trying to get sober' over the years.
While describing his efforts in his book, Perry wrote, 'I feel better because it's out. It's out on a piece of paper. The 'why' I'm still alive is definitely in the area of helping people.'
The Emmy nominee once praised Aniston as the friend who 'reached out [to him] the most' during his struggles.
He gushed to Diane Sawyer in 2022 about being 'really grateful' for her help over the years.

Jennifer Aniston makes rare comment about ‘love triangle' with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Jennifer Aniston hasn't publicly spoken much about her 'love triangle' with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, and his now-ex wife, Angelina Jolie, but the Friends star made some rare comments in a Vanity Fair profile published on Tuesday. 'It was … such a vulnerable time,' she told the outlet. 'Journalism back then felt more like a form of a sport.' Aniston, 56, and Pitt, 61, were married from 2000 to 2005. Pitt met Angelina Jolie, 50, on the set of the 2005 movie Mr. and Mrs Smith. The Fight Club actor was with Jolie from 2005 to 2016 when she filed for divorce. Reflecting on the tabloid frenzy around her 'love triangle' with Pitt and Jolie, Aniston told Vanity Fair, 'There's obviously some PTSD we all have, which is why these [interviews] scare me.' The Morning Wars actress added, 'How are they going to misinterpret my words or take something out of context? And one line nowadays …' For years after Pitt left Aniston for Jolie, speculation about Aniston's love life and desire to have kids or not was splashed in headlines. 'It was such juicy reading for people. If they didn't have their soap operas, they had their tabloids,' Aniston told VF. She said, 'It's a shame that it had to happen, but it happened. And boy did I take it personally.' VF noted that Aniston refers to that period of time as 'the love triangle' years. The Along Came Polly actress said that her advice to herself at the time was, 'Just pick yourself up by the bootstraps and keep on walking, girl.' Referring to her constant presence in the tabloids around 2005, Aniston shared, 'I didn't have a strong enough constitution to not get affected by it.' The Horrible Bosses actress added, 'We're human beings, even though some people don't want to believe we are. They think, You signed up for it, so you take it. But we really didn't sign up for that.' Following Pitt, Aniston had high-profile relationships with John Mayer and Vince Vaughn, before her relationship with Justin Theroux. The pair were linked in 2011 and tied the knot in 2015. Aniston and Theroux revealed their split in 2018 and went through 'the most gentle' divorce. Pitt, meanwhile, married Jolie in 2014. The exes have three biological children, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17, and three adopted children, Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, and Zahara, 20. In 2016, Jolie ended their marriage following an alleged altercation on a plane with their six children present. Pitt was investigated after the alleged incident and wasn't charged by authorities, but he is believed to be estranged from his kids. After their split, Pitt and Jolie spent nearly a decade fighting over the custody of their children and the division of their assets. On December 30, 2024, Jolie's lawyer confirmed that the former couple finally reached a settlement in their divorce, five years after they were declared legally single. Since 2022, Pitt has been romantically linked to Ines de Ramon. In recent years, Aniston has spoken more about her image in the media. In a 2021 interview with the Hollywood Reporter, she said, 'I used to take it all very personally — the pregnancy rumours and the whole 'Oh, she chose career over kids' assumption. It's like, 'You have no clue what's going with me personally, medically, why I can't … can I have kids?' They don't know anything, and it was really hurtful and just nasty.' In November 2022, Aniston got candid about her struggles with in vitro fertilisation and her infertility. In 2023, she said that Adam Sandler sends her flowers every Mother's Day. Jason Bateman, who's Aniston's close friend, told Vanity Fair in Tuesday's story that the actress is like a 'co-mum' to his kids, Francesca, 18, and Maple, 13. The Arrested Development actor said that Aniston is 'the first one to call or text about big dates in the girls' lives.' She's also friends with Gwyneth Paltrow, who dated Pitt from 1994 to 1997. When asked if they talk about their mutual ex, she said, 'Oh, of course. How can we not? We're girls.' Aniston has not written a memoir, but she told VF that she will publish one someday, when she has 'more' to share. Besides Pitt, the star also admitted that she and her Friendsco-stars 'mourned' Matthew Perry long before his death in 2023.

Aniston's shock ‘love triangle' Pitt divorce admission

Twenty years after two of Hollywood's biggest names went their separate ways, superstar actor Jennifer Aniston has given a rare insight recounting the fallout following her divorce from Brad Pitt. The former Friends golden girl has spoken to Vanity Fair about life after Brad, trading advice with former Pitt partner Gwenyth Paltrow, and her dismay over tabloid media stories that keep her behind closed doors in the Los Angeles hills. In a revealing interview with the same magazine soon after their split, Aniston shocked the world and delivered a racy exposé titled The Unsinkable Jennifer Aniston, as an exclamation mark to end the five-year marriage. Wearing only a men's button-down shirt, with underwear and thigh-high boots, the post-Pitt interview was as memorable for its imagery as its content and signalled a release for Aniston, albeit at a cost. 'I haven't looked at that article in forever,' Aniston says. 'I just remember the experience of doing it, which was kind of jarring. It was also such a vulnerable time. But yeah, that was one for the memoirs. 'Journalism back then felt more like a form of a sport. 'There's obviously some PTSD we all have, which is why these (interviews) scare me. 'How are they going to misinterpret my words or take something out of context? And one line nowadays…,' she adds. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Credit: AAP. They say time heals all wounds, but the bounce back from a time Aniston describes as her 'love triangle' period, as Brad Pitt's blossoming relationship with Angelina Jolie burst into the spotlight, has been a slow burn. Her mantra to ward off the suffocating gaze of paparazzi and online gossip columnists: 'Just pick yourself up by the bootstraps and keep on walking, girl', she tells Vanity Fair. 'It was such juicy reading for people. If they didn't have their soap operas, they had their tabloids.' 'It's a shame that it had to happen, but it happened. And boy did I take it personally.' 'I didn't have a strong enough constitution to not get affected by it. We're human beings, even though some people don't want to believe we are,' she said. Aniston's relationship with Pitt has rekindled over time and fans have been heartened to see the pair chat together on podcasts and meet happily at awards ceremonies. 'I will love (Brad) for the rest of my life. He's a fantastic man. I don't regret any of it, and I'm not going to beat myself up about it,' she says. Friendships with other Hollywood royalty have blossomed during the years, and her relationship with Paltrow holds a special bond. When asked if the pair discuss their respective time spent with Pitt, the answer comes with ease. 'Oh, of course,' Aniston says. 'How can we not? We're girls. 'We're always swapping advice —'What are you doing for this? What are you doing for that? Do you have a new doctor for that?'' Another close friend Sandra Bollock says Aniston's ability to bounce back from adversity over the years has turned her into a wonderful friend. 'I think her superpower is that she could very easily be hard, but she's incredibly open,' Bullock says. 'People want to know about her and understand where she is in life and want her to be happy.'
