Hamlin announced that he will miss the Cup Series' first ever race in Mexico this weekend following the birth of his son. Hamlin and fiancée Jordan Fish also share daughters Taylor James, 12, and Molly Gold Hamlin, 7.
"We are happy to announce the birth of our son," Hamlin announced on social media on June 12. "Everyone is doing well. My main priority is to be here at home for Jordan and our family over the next few days when she is able to go home and we transition to life as a family of five."
Hamlin previously hinted at skipping the Viva México 250 earlier this week as his family awaited baby Hamlin's arrival, citing the distance between his North Carolina home and Mexico City as his main concern.
"Ultimately I need to be there for her," Hamlin said during a June 10 interview on SiriusXM NASCAR. "I'm just going to make sure I spend the proper time with her. The racing will come second this week.'
Hamlin is expected to return to racing next weekend. He signed off his birth announcement, writing, "See you guys in Pocono," referring to the Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway on June 22.
It's been an eventful month for Hamlin. Not only did the Hamlin family welcome baby No. 3, he also picked up his third NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season in the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on June 8.
Hamlin has 57 wins in his Cup Series career, which ranks 11th on the all-time list. While a championship has eluded him, he finished runner-up in 2010 and third three times (2006, 2014 and 2021).
Drivers departed for Mexico City on Thursday with practice for the Viva Mexico 250 beginning Saturday ahead of the Sunday's June 15 Cup race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Ryan Truex will drive the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in Mexico City, the team announced on June 12, stating that JGR intends to apply for "a waiver to maintain his status for the 2025 Playoffs."
NASCAR classifies the birth of a child as an exemption to its Playoff Waiver System, meaning Hamlin should be eligible to compete for the 2025 Cup Series championship later this year.

Oilers rally in 2nd period, go to 3rd tied 3-3 with Panthers in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final was all tied up with at least a period left after the Edmonton Oilers scored three goals in the second against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. The Panthers — up 2-1 in the series — led 3-0 after the first on two goals from Matthew Tkachuk and another with 41.7 seconds left before intermission, outshooting Edmonton 17-7 and taking advantage of their penalty trouble that put them on the power play. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch replaced goaltender Stuart Skinner with backup Calvin Pickard to start the second. Allowing three goals, Skinner was pulled for a second consecutive start after giving up five in a 6-1 loss in Game 3 on Monday night. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Darnell Nurse and Vasily Podkolzin all beat Sergei Bobrovsky to make it 3-3. Edmonton's Evan Bouchard left the bench after taking a hit from behind from Carter Verhaeghe late in the period that went unpenalized. Florida has never blown a 3-0 lead in franchise postseason history. The Panthers looked relaxed in their practices and skates ahead of Game 4, upbeat on the ice and downplaying the gravity of the situation when asked about it. 'I feel like every game's so big during this time,' Lundell said. 'The stakes gets higher. Everybody wants to win. But we both know for both teams it's a big game, and we want to be good.' The Panthers are nearing full strength at a time of year usually known for players gutting through injuries, with Paul Maurice saying Sam Reinhart is back healthy and Tkachuk looks like he is rounding into form. The Oilers are missing Zach Hyman because of his playoff-ending wrist injury , and Nugent-Hopkins is dealing with an undisclosed ailment. That discrepancy could make a difference in their Cup final rematch. One thing that is the same is Florida locking in and normalizing pressure situations like this. 'Our approach, it's pretty similar the entire playoffs,' said Bennett, who leads all scorers this postseason with 14 goals. 'Whether it's Game 1 or Game 7, we play the same style. We play just as hard. We're not sitting back, so we really are not going to be changing anything in this next game or any other games to come.' ___ AP NHL playoffs: and

NASCAR insider casts doubts on future of the Chicago Street Race after 2025

The Grant Park 165 for the Chicago Street Race on July 6 will be the third consecutive year with a NASCAR Cup Series race in downtown Chicago. However, it might be the last time the city hosts a NASCAR race for a while. Appearing on Friday's episode of the Door, Bumper, Clear podcast, reporter Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic said that while NASCAR is publicly keeping the door open to returning to Chicago in 2026, he would be surprised if there's a Chicago Street Race next year. Advertisement Related: NASCAR free agents after the season 'The conversations I've had with people, I would personally be surprised if NASCAR is racing in downtown Chicago again (next year). It's an expensive venture…As you look at it, three years is about the shelf life for some of these new places and I think that's fair to say about this.' Jordan Bianchi on the future of the Chicago Street Race Setting everything up for the street race is rather expensive. In 2023, Chicago spent at least $3.5 million on construction and police overtime to run the street race and it still cost $2.15 million in 2024. Meanwhile, NASCAR paid the Chicago Park District just $350,000 to host the street race, though the city also reportedly received $2 per ticket sold and 20 percent of net sales from merchandise and concessions. The contract with the city expires after the 2025 Cup Series season, but NASCAR does have options to return next year and in 2027. However, it appears the costs and frequent complications created by the weather will likely end the Chicago Street Race after this season. While Chicago is likely to lose out on Cup Series racing for the next two years, Bianchi also noted that there is a possibility of NASCAR returning to Chicagoland Speedway in the future.
