Auburn lands talented center from JUCO ranks
Auburn basketball is quickly rebuilding its roster after losing the bulk of its Final Four talent.
It is too early to say if Auburn will return to the Final Four next season, but Bruce Pearl and his coaching staff are working diligently to boost its chances. One day after adding former Mississippi State forward Keyshawn Murphy from the transfer portal, Auburn lands the commitment of one of the top JUCO defenders in Emeka Opurum.

"I want to thank God for this opportunity and his direction this past year which helped me grow on and off the court," Opurum shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account. "Thank you to my teammates, coaches, trainers and teachers at Butler College and in Nigeria! I would like to announce my commitment to Auburn University!"
Opurum announced his commitment to Auburn two days after visiting the Plains. Opurum was named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year following a stellar freshman season at Butler Community College in Kansas that saw him record 8.1 rebounds and block 2.6 shots per game. The 7-0 center is also a solid scoring threat. Last season, he scored 9.4 points and connected on 67% of his shot attempts. He reached double figures in points 13 times last season and recorded double-digit rebounds 10 times.
Auburn's frontcourt is reloaded with top transfer talent. Outside of Murpy and Opurum, UCF forward Keyshawn Hall announced his intent to transfer to Auburn. Bruce Pearl will also add true freshman Sebastian Williams-Adams, the No. 10 forward from the 2025 recruiting cycle, to next year's squad.

Texas lands commitment from four-star Waxahachie WR Kohen Brown
Texas is having quite the weekend on the recruiting trial. They landed four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon late Saturday night. On Sunday, they landed another four-star prospect on wide receiver Kohen Brown out of Waxahachie, Texas. Brown is the 11th commitment for the Longhorns for their 2026 class. After having the top-ranked in , Texas has some work to do to hit that level in 2026. That class is currently ranked 20th overall. Advertisement The 6-foot, 190-pounder is the No. 244 recruit nationally and the No. 32 wide receiver according to Rivals. They also have deemed him the No. E4 prospect in the state of Texas. Brown had a breakout campaign in 2024. He registered 1,084 yards on 54 receptions and scored 11 touchdowns. Brown gained 138 yards rushing as well and put up two more scores. The Longhorns are adding speed at the receiver position with tbe addition of Brown. We're not talking regular speed either, but track speed. He ran a 10.69 in the 100-meter dash as a junior per MileSplit. Texas Longhorns land commitment from four-star 2026 DT Corey Wells
The Texas Longhorns have received their second commitment from a defensive tackle in three days. Over the weekend, Dylan Berymon of Louisiana committed to the Horns. On Monday, Mississippi prospect Corey Wells picked Texas over Auburn and Ole Miss. A position of need, Steve Sarkisian hadn't had a DT commit to Texas in the 2026 cycle before Saturday. Now Sark has two four-star prospects pledged. Advertisement Wells made official visits to Texas, Ole Miss and Auburn. He has cancelled a scheduled visit Mississippi State on June 20. The 6-5, 290-pound Wells is ranked No. 291 in the On3 Industry Rankings. He becomes Texas' 12th commitment in the 2026 recruiting cycle. 'I'll get developed here. I know they will take real good care of me, and I'll have a chance to make it to that next level—the NFL. That is where I want to be,' Wells told On3. The Petal, MS native told 'Texas, I love it here. It's big in Texas, I'm not going to lie. I love the players, the coaches, the culture. The culture is going to be good.' Former Iowa basketball assistant reportedly lands new role in SEC
Former Iowa basketball standout and recent Hawkeye assistant coach Matt Gatens is reportedly set for a new gig in the SEC. According to Justin Hokanson of Auburn Live win On3, Gatens is joining Bruce Pearl's staff at Auburn as the Tigers' general manager. Gatens would help oversee and influence transfer portal recruiting, high school recruiting, NIL requirements, scouting and roster strategy. Advertisement Gatens' ties to Bruce Pearl and the Auburn program date back to his work as a graduate assistant with Auburn during the 2017-18 season when the Tigers won the SEC championship. Gatens' father, Mike Gatens, was a close friend of Pearl during Pearl's time as an assistant at Iowa from 1986-1992. The 35-year-old spent each of the past three seasons as an assistant coach on Fran McCaffery's staff. But, after McCaffery's dismissal, Gatens was not retained on staff by new Iowa head men's basketball coach Ben McCollum. Prior to his three seasons as an assistant coach in Iowa City, Gatens spent four seasons on Drake's coaching staff. Gatens served as director of operations his first two years at Drake before being elevated to an assistant coach in his last two seasons. Advertisement The former Iowa Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior at Iowa City High School, Gatens was a four-year starter for the Hawkeyes from 2009-12. His final two seasons were McCaffery's first two as Iowa's head coach. During Gatens' senior season, Iowa advanced to the NIT for its first postseason appearance under McCaffery and for its first postseason appearance in six seasons. Gatens was a two-time All-Big Ten selection, two-time team captain, two-time academic all-conference honoree, recipient of the 2012 Chris Street Award, and voted to the 2009 Big Ten All-Freshman team. Gatens amassed 1,635 points and 239 3-pointers ranking 10th and third, respectively, in Iowa history.
