Portrait of last Battle of Britain pilot handed over at National Museum
He died in March this year, at the age of 105.
His portrait will find a permanent home at the Irish National Gallery.
The portrait, unveiled by Mr Hemingway at the British Embassy in Dublin last year marking his 105th birthday, was painted by Welsh artist Dan Llywelyn Hall, 44.
He was the last living pilot from the Battle of Britain and would have been 106 on July 17.
Mr Llywelyn Hall is known for numerous portraits, such as the Queen, Shane MacGowan, Amy Winehouse and other public figures.
Mr Llywelyn Hall said: 'I am pleased for the portrait of the Last of the Few, John Hemingway, to be a legacy for the public in John's native Ireland.
'It's especially meaningful this portrait will live in Dublin as it was John's home and held in great affection.
'This portrait serves as both a record of remarkable life and a testament to the rich personality beyond the uniform.'
Brenda Malone, curator of Irish Military History, said: 'We are delighted to accept this generous gift from Dan, and are particularly happy to record John Hemingway's story, through his portrait, with us.
'The National Museum collects and preserves the history of Irishmen and women's experience of military service around the world, especially in times of conflict.
'John's story stands as a representation for the many Irish people who served in the Royal Air Force during WWII.
'His portrait and history will form a valuable part of our collections which we hold in trust for the Irish people.'

'I tried Aldi's Oasis Champagne Supernova bubbly and it's class in a glass for under £15'
The Oasis mania has officially kicked off. As the iconic band begins its highly anticipated reunion tour today, July 4, it marks the first time the Gallagher Brothers have shared the stage in 16 years. To celebrate this monumental moment in British music history, Aldi decided to launch a limited-edition 'Supernova Champagne' as a tribute to the one hit that we all can pretty much recite word for word. Now, I am partial to a bit of bubbly, especially when it gets sunny outside. Also, if we're being honest, I can find myself belting out 'Wonderwall' at the end of a good night much like any other self-respecting Scot does. Set to officially go available from July 7 at the supermarket's Bury new Road in Manchester, a nod to where the band first began their story, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a bottle to try out ahead of the legendary comeback. While I usually only keep champers for a special occasion, the return of arguably the biggest band in Britpop history combined with the warm summer weather made me think, why not eh? A 'world's best' bottle of champagne for under £15 To really celebrate Oasis' return, Aldi's limited-edition bubbly has been crafted using its award-winning Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut that is so popular it was recently crowned as 'the best in the world' at a prestigious awards ceremony. If, you're anything like me, you'll expect champagne to be quite pricey. Fortunately, the supermarket's only costs £14.95 for a 75cl, meaning it doesn't just beat out luxury competitors on taste, but also price. Another little nod I personally loved was the design of the bottle, which has been repurposed to now feature a sleek vinyl record on the label, making it a cute keepsake for diehard fans. Class in a glass As for the champagne itself, let me tell you, I had high hopes considering its reputation. So, did it live up to the hype? Of course, before I even tried a glass, I kept it chilled in the fridge for sometime, because bubbly needs to be chilled for the full effect. As soon as I uncorked the bottle, I'll say that I instantly got a sharp, vibrant aroma that made believe it wouldn't be too weak. As for the taste itself, it's been described as "a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier" that have been matured in cellars, bringing through notes of ripe apple, soft red fruit, and delicate florals. Nevertheless, I was actually surprised by how delicate it was, both in colour and taste. It wasn't overly-yellow like some champers, nor was it too fizzy, making me feel a touch like Goldilocks trying it out. For me, this was perfect balance of zest and sweetness, with a touch of a dry finish, but it never got overly acidity which can be the case with some champagne's. In fact, this was quite mellow and almost way to easy to drink multiple glasses in one go. Overall verdict As it turns out, Aldi's champagne might be something of a "Champagne Supernova in the sky" for devoted fans - or, that is, in my personal opinion. Aside from its luxury and award-winning reputation, it offers a delicate, light, yet no less vibrant, glass of bubbly that will be ideal for toasting at any special event, especially for the duration of Oasis' tour. As for me, while I never managed to nab tickets for the tour, I will finish off my own celebrations by polishing off this bottle with a Spotify playlist of the band's greatest hits on in the background. Oasis fans travel from Australia for band's first gig in 16 years
Oasis will kickstart their long-awaited worldwide reunion tour in Cardiff on Friday. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher will perform together for the first time since their dramatic split in 2009, when they appear at the Welsh capital's Principality Stadium. Fans Lachlan Weekes and Jayden Helm, who spent more than a day travelling from Sydney, Australia, to attend the concert in the Welsh capital, were among fans gathering ahead of the gig. Mr Weekes said: 'We've been planning it forever. We always said that if they got back together, we'd be at that first show.' Mr Helm said: 'We've been lifelong fans – we're 22 and 21, so haven't really had a chance to see them before. 'We always said it was worth it to come, we wouldn't miss it for the world,' he added. 'To take time off work to come over here, it's more than worth it.' The pair also visited Manchester, where the band formed in 1991, stopping off at Heaton Park as part of their personal Oasis tour. Lawrence Evans, from just outside Swansea, said his 'life changed' when he started listening to the band as he then started to play music and write songs. He said: 'They were the band that made me realise how much guitar music meant to me. 'It's something that stays with you forever. If you get into this type of music, I think it's in your soul forever,' he added. His son Jimmy said of the concert: 'The fact that it's in Wales is really special for us. 'It's the first time I get to see Oasis, (my dad) he's lost count, he's seen them countless times. 'I've been waiting for this day all my life.' Alex Schuetz, an Oasis fan from Germany, said you could not travel far enough to see the band. 'The first time I saw them was in 1997,' he said. 'The last time was in Manchester 2009, just before they broke up. 'I even got a ticket for a small festival in Germany and on the ferry to that festival I heard they broke up. 'I was like, 'Oh my god' something was dying inside of me – it sounds a bit stupid, but it took me ages (to get over it).' He added: 'I've come from Germany. You cannot travel far enough, I've been a fan since 1995.' Glenn Moss, an Oasis fan from Essex who regularly gets mistaken for Liam Gallagher, said he started working as an impersonator ahead of the Britpop band's reunion, having previously been against the idea. He said: 'I get stopped all the time – as soon as I got here yesterday four people within five minutes stopped me asking if I was him or for a photo.' The brothers announced the Oasis Live '25 tour last August, starting with two dates in Cardiff on Friday and Saturday, before heading across the UK and Ireland. Doors are expected to open at 5pm, with Cast and the Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft in support. Former members of the group are expected to make a return, with Andy Bell on bass, and Gem Archer and Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs on guitars. Noel was spotted getting off the train in Cardiff on Tuesday, while a drone display spelling out the band's name could be seen over the stadium on Wednesday. Fans across the city have also heard what they believe to be rehearsals in the Principality throughout the week. The reunion announcement came 15 years after Noel quit the Britpop band, saying he 'simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer', following a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. While fans have been pleading for the group to reunite since they disbanded, website issues and controversial dynamic pricing brought outrage, with many failing to secure a spot. After tickets for the UK and Ireland shows went on sale last year, some standard tickets appeared to have jumped from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK's competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing. Following Cardiff, Oasis will visit Manchester's Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin's Croke Park throughout July, August and September. The group will then head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America. A movie, produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is being made in conjunction with the reunion tour. The rock band was led by lead guitarist Noel and his brother, lead vocalist Liam, during their 18 years together. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, rising to fame with the release of their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994. They had hits with songs including Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Live Forever. Dig Out Your Soul, the band's last studio album, was released in 2008, just months before the Paris row.
