Beloved theme park ranked No. 1 in the US — besting even Disney and Universal fun spots: ‘Above-and-beyond reviews'
Tripadvisor has named the top amusement park in the U.S. — and it's not in Disney or Universal.
In its 2025 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Awards this week, Dollywood was named No. 1 in the Amusement & Water Parks category.

Dollywood is located in the Great Smoky Mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and features rides, an adjoining water park and a museum showcasing Parton's costumes and memorabilia.

This isn't the first time Parton's amusement park, which opened to the public in 1986, has landed in the No. 1 spot — according to Knoxville News Sentinel, Dollywood has earned the top spot three times in four years.
It's also been named one of the top 25 amusement parks in the world at No. 11 — and it's the only park in North America to make the top 15 on the international list.

Dollywood was also named America's favorite theme park for the third year in a row this past May by the National Amusement Park Historical Association.
Disney World's Magic Kingdom came in second place, and Knoebels Amusement Resort in Pennsylvania ranked No. 3.
The ranking by Tripadvisor is based on 'above-and-beyond reviews and opinions' from the site's community over 12 months, the website said, adding that out of the 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieve the milestone.

'We've earned a number of honors this year from national organizations, and it is all due to the hard work of our hosts who ensure our guests feel welcome and cared for while they are here,' Naughton continued.

'We feel – and these awards continue to show – the Dollywood Parks and Resorts experience truly is best in class.'
'We don't provide the best guest experience in the country to try to win these awards. We do it because it is the right thing to do,' he added when speaking to the Daily Mail.

Tripadvisor holder Palliser urges strategy review, possible sale
'The company is caught between two fundamentally different strategic identities,' Palliser Chief Investment Officer James Smith wrote in the letter. 'This internal conflict is holding back its most promising venture – Viator, stifling growth and innovation, weakening its competitive edge and costing it the investor attention and valuation it should command.' Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Shares in Tripadvisor are up around 4 percent over the last 12 months, compared with a gain of 30 percent in the Nasdaq Composite Index. The Needham, Massachusetts-based company has a market value of about $2.1 billion. Palliser, which holds roughly 1.1 percent of Tripadvisor's Class A shares, is seeking a meeting with the board to discuss its unease. Advertisement 'We value constructive engagement with all of our shareholders and appreciate their feedback,' a spokesperson for Tripadvisor said. 'The Tripadvisor board of directors and management team are committed to driving long-term value for our shareholders.' Tripadvisor's core business remains under pressure from factors including increased competition and weaker travel demand. That has already attracted the attention of another activist firm, Starboard Value LP, which has built a 9 percent stake and also wants to work with management to unlock value. Advertisement For Palliser, a lot of any potential upside would come from a focus on Viator, a marketplace for connecting travelers with providers of tours, activities and experiences around the globe. The investor believes Viator could be valued at $2 billion to $2.5 billion on a standalone basis. 'It represents a high-potential business that is well placed to capitalize on the underpenetrated travel experience booking opportunity,' Smith wrote of Viator. The strength of that business, as well as the healthy performance of restaurant reservation service TheFork, mean Tripadvisor's market capitalization should be closer to $3.7 billion, according to Smith. 'It is attempting to operate simultaneously as a value business and a growth business — and succeeding at neither,' he wrote. In February 2024, Tripadvisor announced it was forming a special committee to evaluate any potential takeover proposals after its board authorized talks on a possible acquisition. The following month, Bloomberg News reported that Apollo Global Management Inc. had expressed interest in exploring a bid for the company. Palliser, led by Elliott Investment Management alumnus Smith, last year appointed another former Elliott investor, Steve Kasoff, as chairman for the US market.

UK Royal Ballet and Opera cancels Tel Aviv ‘Tosca' after protest
The United Kingdom's Royal Ballet and Opera has cancelled its planned 2026 production of 'Tosca' at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, following internal protest over the organization's stance on Gaza, The Guardian reported on Monday. The decision follows an open letter signed by 182 staff members, including dancers and musicians, criticizing the company's ties to Israel amid the ongoing conflict. The staff demanded that the organization refrain from supporting institutions that legitimize a state engaged in 'crimes against humanity.' The letter does not mention the mass atrocities committed by Hamas against civilians in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, including the murder of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 251 others. Nor does it reference the hostages still being held in dire conditions by terrorists in the Strip. Chief Executive Alex Beard confirmed the decision in an internal message acknowledging staff concerns, stating, 'We have made the decision that our new production of Tosca will not be going to Israel.' The Israeli Opera's website no longer mentions the Royal Opera House, which is the main theatrical home of the Royal Ballet and Opera, located in the Covent Garden district of central London. The signatories accused the Jewish state of committing an ongoing genocide in Gaza—a charge that Jerusalem vehemently denies. The letter also cites that the Tel Aviv venue publicly offers free tickets to Israeli Defense Forces soldiers. 6 The letter does not mention the mass atrocities committed by Hamas against civilians in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The letter also expresses solidarity with a cast member at London's Royal Opera House who unfurled a PLO flag during the final curtain call of Giuseppe Verdi's 'Il trovatore' on July 19.
