PM must clarify why ceasefire was declared: AAP's Sanjay
Sultanpur: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday slammed the central government over Operation Sindoor and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi must explain the reason behind the ceasefire with Pakistan.
Speaking here, Singh said, 'The prime minister himself said that Operation Sindoor would continue. Then why was a ceasefire declared, even though the terrorists who attacked and widowed our sisters in Pahalgam have not yet been neutralised?' He alleged that the ceasefire was mediated by US President Donald Trump, and asserted that the country's sovereignty had been undermined. 'The US President tweets first, and then India confirms it. This is a serious compromise with national sovereignty,' he said. The MP claimed that Trump allegedly threatened to halt trade to stop the conflict, yet the prime minister did not respond.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday reaffirmed his commitment to bringing in major industries to the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency and said he will personally seek cooperation from the State government for the region's development. Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebrations of MySugar High School in Mandya, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the aspirations of Mandya's people must be realised through unity and sustained efforts. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had entrusted him with a key ministerial responsibility, and that he is actively working towards establishing a major industry in Mandya. Mr. Kumaraswamy highlighted recent developments, including the sanctioning of ₹4 crore for the construction of Raitha Bhavan and ₹2.5 crore for Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. 'It is unfortunate that political infighting has surfaced over the spending of Raitha Bhavan funds.' On the future of MySugar High School, Mr. Kumaraswamy said it currently has around 30 students. The management had been told to get approval to start Pre-University courses to improve enrolment and prepare a detailed blueprint to transform this school into a model institution. 'I will ensure full support. The school's rich legacy must be preserved and nurtured,' he added. The Minister spoke about ongoing efforts to revive the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant in Bhadravati, with a proposed investment of ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 crore and criticised the State government for allegedly creating hurdles in the revival of public sector industries like HMT. 'We are determined to protect the legacy of the Mysore Maharajas and M. Visvesvaraya,' Mr. Kumaraswamy said. Nirmalanandanatha Swami of Adichunchanagiri Math, Purushothamananda Swami, writer Krishne Gowda, former MLA K.T. Srikante Gowda, MySugar chairman Gangadhar and others were present.

Uttarakhand: Chamoli farmers reap benefits of PM-KISAN scheme, thank central govt
Chamoli (Uttarakhand): Farmers in Uttarakhand's district of Chamoli are witnessing tangible economic improvements, thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, a flagship initiative of the Central Government that provides direct financial support to small and marginal farmers. Under this ambitious scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments of Rs 2,000, directly credited to their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). To date, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released 19 installments under the scheme, and Chamoli has not remained untouched by its impact. According to official data, 48,664 farmers in the district are actively benefiting from PM-KISAN. The scheme has not only eased the financial burden of farmers but has also contributed significantly to agricultural productivity and self-reliance. IANS visited Chamoli and spoke with several beneficiaries to understand how this initiative has impacted their lives. Hori Lal, a beneficiary, expressed gratitude for the assistance: 'I am getting money under this scheme. I want to thank the central government. It has really helped us.' Harish Lal, another farmer, said, 'This money helps us buy seeds and pesticides. I want to thank PM Modi for bringing such a scheme to life.' Pradeep Kumar echoed similar sentiments, saying, 'I am receiving the money in regular instalments. It's a big help for farmers like us. Thank you to the Prime Minister.' PM-KISAN, launched in 2019, is designed to supplement farmers' incomes. It aims to ensure dignified livelihoods, reduce dependence on informal credit, and boost agricultural efficiency. The transparency and reliability of DBT ensure that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries on time, without middlemen or delays. The latest, 19th instalment was released in February 2025 and benefited more than 9.8 crore farmers across the country, including 2.4 crore women. Earlier, instalments were disbursed in October 2024 and June 2024. With the 20th instalment expected in June 2025, anticipation is building among farmers as the scheme continues to support their efforts on the ground. Though the official release date and location are yet to be announced, it is expected that Prime Minister Modi will again preside over the disbursement ceremony.
